Doctor Who The Husbands of River Song

What a rollercoaster of emotions! I loved how funny this was. The Doctor and River were incredible and I love Nardol as well. What a funny fellow!

And then of course, the ending... Absolutely 10/10. My favourite River episode ever, I reckon. Just amazing. Very hard to avoid the episode title though. I do love the title but... Well, you know. Maybe they could have picked something else 😅

This is the perfect time to watch this "The Timeline of River Song" compilation on YouTube, which is Rivers story in order done in 10 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srC5HglwYwY Full disclosure, it does also include a couple of clips from minisodes and audio adventures, but those are mostly filler.

"When you love the Doctor, it's like loving the stars themselves. You don't expect a sunset to admire you back!" It's so sad that she sees the Doctor like that, and you could see his hearts are breaking realizing that she doesn't believe he loves her.

This episode made me kind of furious in hindsight, because I was never hugely into River and Matt Smith's Doctor as a pairing (mostly because they made it excessively timey wimey to the point of foregone conclusion killing the actual romance), but her and Capaldi are just tremendous and I wish Moffat could've banked her character a bit longer and just made her a companion for several seasons with him.

"The last time I saw you, the real you, the future you, I mean. You turned up on my doorstep. With a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium, to see the Singing Towers. What a night that was. The towers sang, and you cried. You wouldn't tell me why. But I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to The Library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should've been a clue." - River in S4E10 The Forest of the Dead. You mentioned a while ago about rewatching Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Now is when you rewatch it.

‘Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together, you knew I was coming here. The last time I saw you, the real you, the future you, I mean, you turned up on my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the Singing Towers. What a night that was. The Towers sang, and you cried. You wouldn't tell me why, but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should have been a clue.’ 😭😭😭

One of the greatest episodes of the entire show. Loved it

It was wrapped up perfectly! But it was always going to be, River is Moffett's character, the silence in the library episodes were written by him and then he obviously wrote Matt Smith's era so he's always been guiding her the whole way and ended perfectly, now may be a good time to rewatch that two parter btw, a couple of references in those episodes now mean so much more after this. But Alex and Peter are so good together, and the whole episode is just hilarious and emotional and just brilliant from start to finish. The scene of her realising its him is so beautiful. Also a big shout out to the doctor FINALLY getting to do the 'bigger on the inside' moment, love that bit so much.

Now that you've seen this episode, you should watch this short. It brings it all together. It's only a little over 2 minutes long, so you could even film a reaction to it. https://youtu.be/L2QQBDS43OA?si=k-jUlJZyLPrV_ih9

i've been looking forward to this reaction for months. my favorite episode of doctor who and it's not even close. i can't even say i've "swooned" at anything until i saw this episode. i saw a comment once that said, you can kind of tell peter was the only doctor actor who had been married while interacting with river song (still with his wife since 1991!). that romantic tension with river is just to die for and is so satisfying knowing where his doctor started, all hostile and distant and unsure. the way he looks at her.....gosh. his chemistry with her kind of blew 11 and 10 out of the water, which is wild given how well they worked with her, and how asexual 12 has been generally. i'm so happy you enjoyed this one. this was a joy to rewatch and so much fun to see it hit you just as intensely as it did me. "hello, sweetie" has never sounded so gorgeously romantic. <3 <3

The next episode is another Christmas episode, 2016 didn't have a season of Doctor who (I can't remember why) but they did a Christmas episode and the next season started in 2017

Doctor Who is a commission for linear broadcast on BBC One above everything. The then controller of BBC One, Charlotte Moore ultimately decided that Doctor Who could not fit in the BBC One schedule in 2016 sufficiently due to all of the live sporting coverage to be broadcasted on the Channel live that year. This included the Wimbledon tennis tournament, Uefa Euro 2016 football (soccer) tournament and the Rio Olympics of 2016. At the time Moore said "We are spoilt with national moments including the Euros and Olympics" in 2016, and she wanted to "hold something big back for 2017" for the new series, which she described as a "huge event" So that is why DW was delayed until 2017 for S10.

It's a shame you didn't avoid the spoiler title as I hoped you would (on an earlier video I warned you it was one in case you could avoid it) but Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston worked so well together and I'm glad we get to see Twelve with River. It was just so funny for so long, especially with River taking the TARDIS and the Doctor taking his turn to react to the whole 'bigger on the inside' thing. i knew it would end in tears for you though. King Hydroflax is a big weak point in the episode but otherwise it's amazing. I don't know if you've ever rewatched Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead now you have a lot more knowledge of and context for River and the future adventures she namedrops having already been on in her own timeline (like the crash of the Byzantium in the following season), but as she's sacrificing herself she even mentioned Darillium as something she knew was their last night together before that, and in fact the real life reason they brought her back was because Moffat wanted to make sure he finally followed up on it like he did other things.

Yes, I remember you mentioning the spoiler title! Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to ignore unless I have someone sending me the episodes each week. But I can assure you, it didn't impact my love for this episode one tiny bit! I adored it 💜 I haven't rewatched any of the River episodes (save for editing) as I wanted to see all of her episodes before I went back. I am not sure if we'll see her again (I kinda don't want to know) so it's probably something I'll just wait for 😊

Did you notice that when 12 moved the Sonic gift to River up and down her face, he was saving her so when the 10th Doctor realises why his future self gave River his old sonic he could save her to the library. There's also an audio track played from the library 2 parter at the same time to hammer it home 😭
