The Good Place 3x05 The Ballad of Donkey Doug

When I first watched this show, I was surprised to find that I actually liked Simone. I mean, of course, I wanted to see Eleanor and Chidi get together, but I figured the show wouldn't stick with Chidi and Simone for long -- given how fast-paced this show is -- so I just "went with it." I thought she was smart and funny and if I had to choose someone who's not Eleanor, Simone was a lovely option. (Especially when she was teasing Chidi while he was in the MRI machine: "Wow, that is highly inappropriate... just kidding! I'd love to go out with you.") LOL. Still... I thought the show resolved their relationship quite nicely. Yeah, she thought Chidi was being weird, but as breakups go, it could have been a lot worse! And now we can move on to the next adventure, and hope for Chidi and Eleanor to connect again. :) Here's hoping, anyway!

Tahani is so good in this episode. "You're HIS dad" is delivered so well, but If you keep an eye on her during other conversations she gives so many great reactions.

Just a small correction: the HORRIBLE break up between Chidi and Simone wasn't a simulation! Chidi just REALLY screwed up but Eleanor is right; no matter what, no one's really going to walk away feeling great and you can't really prevent that.

I like how after meeting Donkey Doug you still question if Eleanor or Tahani have the worst parents 😂 Donkey Dad really did pull through though, and genuinely likes his son, so there's that.

I think I need to come clean about something. For the last 12 years, I have lived in Jacksonville, Florida. So many of the Jason jokes, especially this episode, hit home both literally and figuratively. Jacksonville is not like they present it on this show, but it is also not entirely unlike how they present it either. Although, I have not thrown spray paint cans at flamingos or crashed a jetski into a manatee, Jacksonville is filled with many interesting people. That should shed light on as to why this episode has my favorite background joke in the whole series. When they land in Jacksonville, the airport is called Randy "Macho Man" Savage non-International Airport and the "non" looks like it was added after the fact. Jacksonville's actual airport is called Jacksonville International Airport, but it does not have any international flights. I think it used to have one occasional flight to the caribbean but have not had any for a long while and I have always wondered why it is still called an international airport. There is so much care put into every detail of this show and I love that. Also, Bortles!!
