Doctor Who 9x0 Last Christmas
It's Christmas Episode time again! Which means grab your tissues, it's probably going to be sad 🥺
I loved seeing Santa, very adorable! Great humour, great scary moments, perfect emotional moments... Sigh.... Just what we expect from these specials. I do look forward to them, very much.
(a little side note, there is a minisode I'll react to and share here before 9x01 so keep an eye out for that one!)

Love the end talks. I like how you worded it as if the Doctor imagined Clara into being.
Oh and one of the elves is played by Strax
Loved it!!!!!!
I love your outros, and your take on the Doctor and Clara. I also love this episode. It's an absolutely bonkers combination of ideas that somehow really works. Those scenes at the end are just beautiful. Looking forward to S9.
Ohhhh others have added to the discussion about the doctor and clara mirroring each other, but another interesting thing to think about is how that was intentionally designed by Missy!!! She brought them together with the helpline, and "chose" clara for the doctor. She basically matched her to him. Interesting to think about haha.
Sad to see Danny actually go this time round but on the plus side we're now approaching arguably my favourite season of modern who and the whole reason Capaldi is personally my favorite doctor.
Loved that part where Clara needs help with the crackers with the whole 'we should do this every Christmas' call back to literally last Christmas, loved it. Annoyed someone in the comments has already beaten me to telling you about Clara staying on so they had to redo the endings lol But yeah really like this episode, despite earlier in the season the doctor saying he hates banter... the banter between him and Santa Clause is so good here, think I would have been happy with the episode just being that lol But Peter delivers some amazing lines in this one as well, his disgust at their being a movie called Alien, the whole scene of him deleting everyone from his memory in the base, just everything in this episode was amazing. PS - I'm here for the outro! So a Merry Christmas to you too! :P
As others have mentioned this would have been Clara's last story before she changed her mind to stay so they changed the ending. I'm glad they didn't end it like this but I do like the scene of the Doctor helping Clara pull the cracker mirroring when Clara helped the older 11th Doctor pull a cracker in the last Christmas special. This was my favourite Christmas episode at this point in the series. Fun fact. The male scientist who got killed is Michael Troughton, his dad Patrick played the second Doctor and his brother David Troughton also appeared in the new series in Midnight with David Tennant. Michael also has voiced the second Doctor in a number of audio stories. an ironically I'm currently in the middle of listening to a third Doctor audio story where he plays another character.
The outro talks are always the best bit! Honestly, your comments around the doctor/clara being extensions of each other is great and I see a lot of reactors miss this point. You may have seen on IMDb Dan Starkey was in the episode as Ian the elf, different from his usual role of Strax!
It's funny that you say a lot of people don't stick around for the outros because they are probably my favourite part of your videos. I've never skipped one and I never will. You may not have heard of Nick Frost before but if you liked his performance and want to see more of him I thoroughly recommend you watch Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (I know you don't watch much but when you did your IMDB search did those two ring any bells? They are very well known). Anyway, they are both excellent movies and I know you'd enjoy them. Loved the reaction, AND the outro, as always, and I hope you have great day. Thanks Juliette 💜
This is an interesting one to see you react to as I don't think I've ever rewatched it so I remember a lot less than the other Christmas specials. Having a Christmas episode with Santa is a fun idea and he's very entertaining, as well as the ambiguity of whether he was real or not. I know you don't watch much and never expect you to recognise someone, but it's nice that we can add Nick Frost to what's probably still a very short list. Given what you said about people commenting on stuff you talk about in your post episode thoughts I must confess that I usually go into your reactions knowing what I want to say about the episode and usually type while listening to your outro (as I'm doing so right now), partly because I'm watching shortly before bed ;). I will sometimes add or change stuff depending on your specific reaction and thoughts though. Clara was actually supposed to leave at the end of the last season, and the ending of the previous episode seems geared towards that (which is partly why I feel it would have been best if she had left then). However, Jenna Coleman decided to stay on after all.
Nick Frost is a new one for me, but I will say he has the PERFECT name for Santa. St Nick, Frost... It couldn't be more wonderful! OOH that's interesting about Clara meant to be leaving the previous episode. It did feel very "goodbye" but I also think I said something like the goodbye didn't feel good enough for me. If it was to be her last episode, I wanted more!
i love this special so much <3 season 9 is my favorite season, and the christmas special after it is my favorite episode of doctor who overall. there are two minisodes before episode 1 of season 9 - one shorter Prologue and then a longer minisode, have you seen both?
AH! Yes, I watched the shorter one by myself and when I went to watch the second one I noticed it was longer so I decided to react to it. I'll upload that one over the weekend 😊💜
Fun fact: this was going to jenna Coleman's last episode, the scene with Clara being old was going to be the original ending but Peter Capaldi convinced her to stay on the show
Whilst I am very pleased Jenna choose to stay and love whats to come, there is a little part of me thats also a bit disappointed if only because the original ending, with Clara being old and so their time together being over, though rather bleak at xmas, does complete the arc of series 8 satisfactorily in terms of the through-line about lying. With the change to a happy ending we lose the consequences of those lies, and I felt that was quite an important message especially for Who's younger audience.
