Baby Turns Blue Dessous

Less is more, especially when you are pressed for time.

I was shooting with Kiana Tomy in an apartment in Torino, Italy, this spring, and as always, wanted to squeeze in “just one more set”. But I also knew we had to wrap it up just a few minutes after.

So I opted for an easy (and fast to set up) fashion-with-a-twist-of-paparazzi light:

A direct flash head (a Profoto B10) with a grid to focus the light a bit, kept as close as possible just above the camera.

I generally prefer darker backgrounds, but that was not an option in this apartment, and on location you have to work with what you have.

And setting up lighting this way will make parts of the model's skin that is at a right angle to the light (so pointing toward the camera) shine a bit, and the sides of the body become a bit darker as the light hits at a more oblique angle.

Sort of like when using a ring flash.

Is it art?

No, not really.
