🎃 HALLOWEEN MOVIE SPECIAL! 👻
Okay guys… I normally do NOT do this because, as you know, I don’t do horror 😭😂 BUT for Halloween, I’m making an exception for you and doing a special horror movie reaction!
So yes, you can recommend movies… but PLEASE go easy on me 😭 Don’t give me the most terrifying, nightmare-inducing movie you can possibly think of. I get scared ridiculously easily and I’m not trying to spend the following week sleeping with the lights on because of you guys 😂
This is how much I love you. I’m voluntarily putting myself through a horror movie for your entertainment. Please have mercy on me 😭😂🎃
Drop your recommendations below! 👻

Two comedic horror suggestions (both IMDb 7.5): "Zombieland" (2009) (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin) "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil" (2010) [has Alan Tudyk (e.g., of Firefly)]
The Scream series. It balances camp with horror... Honestly it's not that bad. It's my favorite franchise for horror ever
Bram Stokers Dracula or Sweeney Todd 😍
13 Ghosts
The Curse of the Were Rabbits! It's Wallace and Gromit so not terrifying but still very much Halloween theme and very funny
OBSESSION
Rec
Alien, of course. Shining, may be. And if you want something just fun to watch about Halloween, there is the animated movie Monster House.
SINNERS
A NIGHTMARE A ON ELM STREET HAHAHAHA!
Sweeney Todd seems popular. If you'd like a different Johnny Depp vehicle, Sleepy Hollow is a very enjoyable horror-action adventure.
Sweeney Todd
Leprechaun 1993
Verónica (2017 Spanish (from Spain) horror movie 🍿🎥), great movie, I also recommend it for anyone reading me 😁, it's on Netflix
13 ghosts is a staple Halloween time movie
tucker and dale vs evil
Coraline!!
Paranormal activity !
Scream
The Lost Boys 1987
Fear Street!
I also don't do horror normally but I love A Quiet Place and I think you'd enjoy it too
"The Village" (less scary) or "The Sixth Sense" (more scary), but both good options I think :)
Hereditary
OBSESSION OMG PLEASE SOFIE! i was hoping you to see it so bad!!!
Scream (1996) or the Sixth Sense, please!!! Scream: first scene a bit intense, then, it's more a whodunit with fun The Sixth Sense: more drama, psychological thriller/horror
Obssesion et Sixth Sense are 2 great picks I agree
obssesion
Obsession!
Sinister !👌
I dont like horror too so i could not watch a reaction to that, but following some suggestions like sweeney todd, i vote for: Edward scissorhands Frankenweenie Corpse Bride <3
midsummer 2019
The Sixth Sense for sure !
The Sixth Sense (1999) Bram Stokers Dracula (1992) Interview with the Vampire (1994)
pls go for Obssesion, it has nothing to do with ghosts that i know you said it makes you uncomfortable
Even though I know it's a newer horror film, Obsession was so good and successful I have to recommend it. And it would be interesting to see your take on the characters.
I don't do horror either but the sixth sense is really good. Edit: if you hate jumpscares like me, I usually have to look up timestamps for major jumpscares because otherwise I'll literally die, so that's an option xd
I always recommend the Raven because it has all elements including comedy. It has Vincent Price (from the Michael Jackson video Thriller), Boris Karloff (the voice of the Grinch), Peter Lorre, and a very young and handsome Jack Nicholson, if you can believe that!
Urban Legend :)
The Sixth Sense. I know it was on a previous poll and lost, but it has a great story and isn't just scary for the sake of being scary. It was also a culturally significant film that everyone was talking about back in the day, being both critically acclaimed and a huge box office draw.
It Follows
hereditary
You would love Practical Magic! It’s got it all and not too scary. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman!
The Conjuring The nun Paranormal activity
You HAVE to do Obsession.
Tucker And Dale Vs Evil
definitely recommend Obsession. Not super scary and think you would really enjoy it
SINNERS Black Phone The Blackening Fear Street Trilogy
Midnight mass or the house of usher (both by the creator of the haunting of hill house) I know they're not movies but if you have time for a short show id recommend Any of the mike flannagan shows.
It’s gotta come down to Scream, The Sixth Sense and Obsession. Those of you suggesting shit like Terrifier need to be put in time-out. 😂
I also nominated The Sixth Sense, but Scream would be cool too (although Scream has so many sequels that it might be hard to follow.)
Abigail , Ready or not , Companion , the babysitter , the menu , freaky , Jennifer’s body , Get out , the blackening , happy Death Day , barbarian. Every movie I just named is a horror movie with a mix of comedy! With barbarian being the scariest 1 (just so you know)
One Cut of the Dead. Incredibly underrated foreign film. Not EXACTLY horror, but I'd recommend going into the movie blind.
Jaws (1975)
-Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) -A Dark Song (2016) -Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) -Ninth Configuration(1980) -Night Of The Hunter(1955) -Mandy (2018) -The Ninth Gate (1999) -Harold And Maude (1971)
Does Project Hail Mary count? 😂 it’s slightly spooky in parts I’d say.
Haha, no, it doesn't count, but OMG, SHE NEEDS TO WATCH IT!
SAW SAW 2
The Sixth Sense
Sinners, backrooms or coraline
Excited! Thanks for make an exception for spooky season. A few of my recommendations for horror that aren’t too scary are: The Sixth Sense The Others Get Out The Shining Scream is fun and campy but some people prefer having seen older horror movies (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street) before watching this one. It also contains spoilers for those movies too so just wanted to warn you. Also if you ever want to watch a spooky mini series, Midnight Mass is very good! Only seven episodes and it really isn’t my definition of scary as much as it is a creepy slow burner with a few scares here and there. Amazing storytelling though!
Hereditary, it's definitely a horror movie but it gets by for the majority of its run time as a very tense family drama with amazing acting performances and some really interesting cinematography.
You won't be alone 2022. Horror themed but a beautiful movie that might make you shed a tear ... In an isolated mountain village in 19th century Macedonia, a young girl is kidnapped and then transformed into a witch by an ancient spirit.
The Village, by M. Night Shyamalan. Or The Sixth Sense, as others have suggested here, which is by the same director. Both excellent picks.
How you doin'?
Coraline, The Sixth Sense, The Craft, Shaun of the Dead, The Shining, Practical Magic, The Addams Family, Addams Family Values, Hereditary, Hocus Pocus The scariest of the bunch are the shining and hereditary.
Oh Sofie my dear... you're so sweet for doing this and I love you for that. I don't like horror movies either and couldn't imagine going through that just for my audience 😅 That being said, I have seen a scary movie recently, and I really liked it... but it's not horror, or at least it doesn't cell itself that, it's actually a sci-fi thriller: Annihilation. I think you may like it, it's very cerebral. And it doesn't have jumpscares, of course. I hate those.
If your not into horror very much then I suggest you watch something like Practical Magic or Hocus Pocus, those are great films to watch for Halloween. Paranorman is also a really good.
Obsession
Alien, I think you'd like it, its smart horror not dumb people doing dumb things, well not all the time, or Constantine just because its a cool movie.
Train to Busan (subtitled) 2016
Obsession!
I also vote Sweeney Todd!
World War Z (2013)
Battle Royale (2000)
I would love to see your reaction on scream franchise or fear street trilogy
Zombieland is also very fun (and romantic), but... if zombies terrify you even if fighting them is comedic it may not be for you.
Cabin in the Woods - its a Whedon horror movie and also has great humor while not being 'too' scary.
Gremlins works for soft and very fun horror as well as for Christmas :-)
That one might be borderline in terms of being scary.
Seconding some films others have mentioned: Alien (1979) The Crow (1994) The Sixth Sense (1999) The Others (2001) The Cabin in the Woods (2011) Sinners (2025) Not all of these are squarely in the horror genre, but they're good, suspenseful films that fit broadly into the "suitable for Halloween" theme and shouldn't cause any nightmares.
Supernatural, dark & a little spooky: Dracula (1992) Sleepy Hollow (1999) The Sixth Sense (1999) Interview with the Vampire (1994) Constantine (2005) Gremlins (1984) Some Classics: Scream (1996) Halloween (1978) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Fun Halloween: The Addams Family (1991) Ghostbusters (1984) Hocus Pocus (1993) Beetlejuice (1988) The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) Casper (1995) The Witches of Eastwick (1987)
hey sofie i gotta question since your doing this for us for halloween are you also going to do this at christmas too with christmas movies ?
i mean obsession is a good movie for you i think
THE HAUNTING 1999
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Saw
The Thing (1982) is masterpiece and would be my number one choice but I think Alien (and maybe even Aliens) would be a better fit. Sigourney Weaver plays one of the most resourceful and badass heroines ever put to screen!
Okay - horror films, but not too scary, and with enough complex characters and themes to give you something to really get you invested in them: Sinners, Hereditary, Get Out, The Others, His House, Coraline & Lake Mungo. Every one of them worth a look for different reasons
Your comment sounds so genuine but the list is evil lol
I second The Haunting (1999)!!! 👻🎃🏚🧡
ya know sofie it doesn't have to be a horror movie it could be a hallween themed movie i'd love to see you watch hocus pocus 1993 tbh.
Waste of an opportunity to get a REAL horror reaction out of her, but I watch it every year. It's a great family movie. Sequel wasn't terrible either.
Sinners is an ideal horror movie for Sofie. Not too scary, with plenty of interesting non-spooky stuff going on. The Sixth Sense is also a good option. Some of these recommendations are trolling Sofie's request to go easy😝
The Cabin in the Woods, made by Joss Whedon. Best horror movie ever, very clever.
The Sixth Sense
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Shh! Nobody warn her.
The conjuring is a movie I watch every halloween
I wouldn't recommend that movie to Sophie. I watched that one with friends and wasn't looking at the screen for parts of it. Still messed me up a bit lol.
I’m going to say The Crow, it’s a cult classic. Not necessarily scary, technically kind of a love story set in a very dark world and also has a true tragedy tied to the film. Brandon Lee, the main actor of the film and who would have become a big actor in today’s time, was accidentally killed during the making of the movie.
Tragic, action-packed, fun, and funny. Very appropriate for a Halloween post. Not a horror. I wouldn't complain if she reacted but it's not my suggestion for this year. Maybe we can be greedy and get it as a bonus??? Back me up here. The likes and comments matter.
The scream movie franchise would be great! And they can be watched through Halloween. There’s 7 movies. 🍿 and Courtney Cox from friends is in them! And there’s a friends joke or two thrown into one of the early movies. If you’re not up for a franchise of 7 movies I agree with somebody who said “The sixth sense.” It was close to winning one of the polls. Or “Abigail” is a fun one.
"The Shining" is another good one.
1408 Based on Novel by Stephen King
Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman ❤
The exorcist or Hereditary, the vast majority of current horror movies are talentless jump-scare festivals.
Evil choices. Definitely no.
"The Sixth Sense" ... You will honestly love it.
Paranormal Activity series!!!!! ✨ it’s mostly jump scares but the lore is great. It’s creepy and eerie, but she did the Haunting of Hill House so she should be fine 🤸🏼♂️
"Fright Night" from 1985
As someone who's always been a bit of a wuss when it comes to horror movies and also has a sensitive stomach (don't know if you have that same affliction), I believe I can safely recommend the following: 1) Scream 2) The Ring 3) Tremors -- If you want a fun, campy monster movie. Not too scary, but has some gross bits here and there.
I feel like these are are very low hanging fruit as far as suggestions go, they're common/popular choices for reactors to do, but both Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice are very Halloween/horror movies that dip just as much into comedy as anything thing as else and therefore might make for an easier watch for you, S. They are cult favourites for a reason and tend to get over very well with everyone and do well with YouTube views.
Beetlejuice is a great suggestion!
Planet Terror. (With 'Paige' from Charmed 😁) Zombie type movie. A bit gory but also funny and action packed 🧟♂️🔫 😁
Happy Death Day or Ready Or Not
I second the Obsession suggestions. It's interesting, disturbing and at the same time not like "horror" horror, if you know what I mean.
The Ring Naomi watts version
Halloween
The others!
I would love for you to watch Misery it’s one of my favourite horror movies!
Ginger Snaps
@Sofie If you want safe option as a beginner I would reccomend Coherence 2013, its not a typical supernatural horror but this movie has a very unique story that will blow your mind & make you scared at the same time.. Next option Carrie 1976. ( It's a must watch)
Crimson Peaks!!
So undarrated but truly a masterpiece
Scream or Cabin in the Woods... or maybe Obsession. A lot of people are saying that Obsession wasn't super scary, and in a traditional sense, it's not super scary. But, I've been a horror fan for 40 years, and that's one flick I'm never gonna be able to shake. That one's wedged in the memory banks, with the door locked. Also, I've said it before, I'm down if you just want to do Buffy all over again. I mean, Vampires are still horror.
Sleepy Hollow, with Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. It's both a little silly, in a good way, and scary, but not too much.😊 It's a must-see Tim Burton film! it's very atmospheric and perfect for Halloween 🎃🐎😊👌
Carrie 1976
List 3 : 1.Misery 2.Tremors 3.The Ritual (2017) 4.Alien (1979) 5.Scream 6. Widows Bay (series) 7. Any Mike flanagan horror series I can 100% garuntee these movies Won't dissapoint anybody
I mean I love the Tremors franchise but... not very Halloween-y imo
When you watched The Haunting of Hill House two years ago, I was hoping you would at some point continue with Mike Flanagan's shows "The Haunting of Bly Manor", "Midnight Mass", "The Fall of the House of Usher". Neither of them are that scary, actually, so you might enjoy them even if you don't do horror. But if you're looking for movies only, I recommend Obsession, The Black Phone and Scream.
Night of the living dead
List 2 1.Get Out 2.Conpanion 3.Godzilla Minus one 4. The wailing (korean) 5.Tumbbad (Bollywood) 6. It chapter one 7. Sixth sense 8. It Follows 9.sinister 10. Abigail
Sweeney Todd, please!!!
This would be perfect, it's more grotesque than horror, and btw Johnny Depp plays one of his most iconic roles in Sweeney Todd
The Others.
I think it's a brilliant and beautifully shot slow burn. I'd also recommend What Lies Beneath or The Changeling for a similar vibe. I'd even say the original Halloween fits into this category.
I suggest Dracula 1993 and Sweeney Todd <3
I think they are two perfect options for Sophie, and two great classics 👏👏👏😍
Alien 1 and 2
teenage sex and death at camp miasma (2026)
Constantine
You are so lucky that you got one of the greatest fan like me, who knows Horror genre very well. Here are my reccomendations: 1.Carrie 1976 2.The Thing 1982 3.The Shinning 4.Doctor Sleep ( shining sequel) 5.Black Christmas 1974 6.The Exorcist 7.The Witch (scary) 8. Hereditary (scary) 9.Talk to me 10.Bring Her back
If you have to react to a horror movie, it’s gotta be Alien. It’s classic horror, without all the revolting stuff… mostly. 😄
Alien or Obsession sound perfect to me
Carrie 1976. You must watch this movie, even Stephen King praised this movie, this movie is his book adaptation
sinners. idk why people are saying scream isnt scary, its very violent and focuses on femicide so its extra upsetting to watch as a woman. sinners is scary but not too bad, and the characters are very easy to care for, so the plot pulls you in. ok just rechecked the comments and yeah everyone saying scream isnt scary is a man LMFAO no wonder
Who said it wasn’t scary? It’s literally horror. It’s just also campy, funny, and self-aware, which is why it’s a good rec for someone who doesn’t want TOO scary. Also, I’m a woman. Don’t know what that has to do with it lol
The Underworld franchise would be interesting. My suggestion would be the first three movies.
How about easing into it with something like Little Shop of Horrors or Hocus Pocus or The Lost Boys?
Over the Garden Wall. Not a movie but its combined length is still less than 2 hours long
Sinners!!
Sinners!
Saw (2004) or Halloween (1978)
Oh girl, I would say THE HAUNTING (1999), with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Liam Neeson, Owen Wilson and Lili Taylor. It's actually perfect for us who don't like horror very much, because it's not a basic typical horror film full of jump scares or violence (which I usually find very distasteful, cruel and pointlessly insensitive). THE HAUNTING is more of a gothic fantasy/mystery film with a traditional haunted mansion horror setting. The set design and overall production design are some of the most iconic ever done in the history of film. The level of detail and care put into it is insane! It’s actually the PERFECT Halloween movie because it’s cosy and cheesy, but also very intriguing, fun, creepy/spooky and deeply emotional. The characters, setup and plot are all interesting and quintessentially ‘Halloweeny’: -Unmatched Spooky Gothic Halloween Vibes (without unnecessary gore, violence or gratuitous shock-value horror) -Best Haunted Mansion ever put on film. -Two very different, interesting and complex iconic female lead characters who are actually being nice to and helping each other throughout the film instead of being pitched against one another. They are both intelligent, resourceful, brave and kind despite having opposite personalities, which is very refreshing. -Lots of Scooby-gang-type mystery adventure with a full TOP-TIER cast. -A cool plot based on actual mistery/adventure, rather than pointless scary randomness. -Classic Halloween tropes (gothic settings, ghosts, old family curses, supernatural mysteries, magical protagonist, etc) -Incredibly beautiful and atmospheric soundtrack. -Catherine Zeta-Jones being THE fashion icon and having the most awesome 90’s gothic-chic outfits throughout the ENTIRE film. -Exquisite cinematography with gorgeous organic colour grading.
I love 1999's 'The Haunting'. It is so underrated. Fantastic suggestion!
Coco is not a horror (I don't like those either), but fits Halloween perfectly.
Omg you gotta do Scream. It's the perfect horror film for you.
The Ring or The Menu
The Sixth Sense. It is genuinely scary, but the scary bits are offset with deep sentiment, and it's also a beautiful movie with a lot of emotional punch I think you'll get a lot out of.
Omg yes please!!!!!
The Hilla Have Eyes (2006)
Halloween
Trick 'r Treat (2007) https://www.imdb.com/de/title/tt0862856
The Village (I'm a scaredy cat and this was manageable for me lol), the final destination movies, The Descent, oh and Quarantine scary movie but I think you could handle it. Movies like the Ring and the Grudge had me sleeping with the lights on for like two weeks lol I wouldn't recommend those.
The Village gets more hate than it should. It's very atmospheric and has the classic Shayamalan twist. It's a fun one.
Fear street or Scream
Maybe a 2016 Tim Burton film such as Ms Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children. It's not scary per say more just a bit creepy and spooky.
The Babysitter
Alien. Great female lead, traces of horror without being pure horror, and is a must see. Has one of the most referenced scenes of all time.
Hereditary (2018) When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry, trying to outrun the sinister fate they have inherited. Content expanded.
Oh yeah, the scariest movie out there is definitely a wrong suggestion 💀
Alien (1979)
You could go with a classic like The Thing (1982), the Ring (2002), The Exorcist (1973) or Alien (1979) Final Destination (2000). You could also go for a more mystery with some spooky scenes like Signs (2002), Sixth Sense (1999), The Village (2004) or The Mist (2007). For some comedy horror you could try Shaun of the Dead (2004) or Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Tucker and Dale vs Evil 🙏😂
like everyone else is saying “scream”!! 🤪☺️
Aliens is probably one of the most popular ones but I dunno if that would be considered too scary lol. Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2 are personally my favourites but those are quite bad for some people 😅
Coherence
It's a Gem
Yeah I think Scream would be perfect for her, a really good film and not too scary.
final destination
Obsession - I know it's not a cult classic, but I'd recommend it as it came out recently and did well at the box office 🙂
I'd say, let's start with SCREAM by Wes Craven. SCREAM is a scary movie that is a META commentary on other scary movies, so it's better if you have a knowledge of scary movies but it's not necessary. SCREAM is fun, scary, and personally the best scary movie, IMO. It also has several sequels that you can also watch, if you enjoy it.
Obssesion is the perfect film, short, not that scary, with an interesting story to thin kabout it
This would be a very popular suggestion, and would be mine too, but we should also warn it's a heavy movie. She shouldn't go into it lightly because even though it's not the most scary, it deals with quite the heavy sudject matter.
Scream!
Maybe Tremors or The Menu. Close enough to Horror to say you did it, but not so bad you'll hate us (I hope.)
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
hi !! i think you really should give a try to Hereditary !
Evil choice. Definitely no, no.
Maybe the scream series. It’s not inherently scary. 💙💙
Scream
The babysitter
Holy! Dreams do come true🎃 My suggestion is Hereditary
Evil choice. Definitely no.
This may be a very evil choice but my favorite horror movie is hereditary. It would be hilarious and amazing to see you watch that.
Guys, we're trying not to make her regret this decision.
Can you please do Halloweentown movies .
Rosemary’s Baby! If you feel braver, Hereditary
Never ever watch Hereditary, Sophie. Trust me.
Ready or not
Ok what’s the most terrifying, nightmare-inducing movie we can possibly think of…
I think we can all agree that Terrifier 2 is fun and carefree, and basically as scary as a RomCom, right? 🤫
Fear Street 1994
Fresh (2022)! Not very scary at all
The Mist
yes!!!! excellent suggestion
1408
Fear street
Oddity is a great horror movie from Ireland. A great story, and no cheap jump scares.
Time cut(Netflix)
The black phone
The conjuring i think
Just a warning to Sofie. This one's really nightmare inducing.
Scream
Better once you've actually seen the classic slashers
Sinister
Underworld
Constantine
Constantine is a good option, so add my vote to that! And Keanu Reeves, so bonus!
