Giant Days commission sketches
I'm currently doing 20 commissions for Giant Days Kickstarter backers. I don't enjoy doing pictures like this but needs must and I have been trying my best to get some good drawings out. These are the sketches I did for 14 of them - I've lightboxed them for the finished pen and ink/grey marker illustrations. I'll post those up when they've gone out to backers. The remaining six, as you can probably guess, will be Esthers, and I want to find her some special outfits so those will be done next week.

Awesome. It's nice to see them again, even if in commissions. Kinda weird there are no drawings on Esther
I love all the Suzie Ps! (I always love Suzie P.)
Yeah, FWIW I cherish the Lotte I got from you back in the day, and maybe more B.O.B., which I use in every single case as my avatar when I don't have to use my own ugly mug. And I love telling people that you drew it for me!
I miss Ed. Have you abandoned him?
I have decided that I don’t want to reopen the book on these characters in any "post Giant Days" way so Ed will stay in the box with the rest of the toys.
Does Lottie's drink have nuclear waste in it?
All winners.
On the one hand, I wish I could have budgeted in a sketch, especially since these look awesome. On the other, if you don't like doing them, I wouldn't have wanted you to do one just for me. Ah, well, I'll just have to content myself with the books. Alas. (But these do look great.)
Never think that way - if i have to do them for a crowdfunder, the number is limited and I have to do them all, one way or another!
Do you not like to do them because they are commercialization of art? Or? Either way, I (and I imagine all of us) love them. That level was snatched up before I came across the Kickstarter, otherwise.... BTW, "Stink-eye" Daisy is my favorite of this bunch.
I find it very hard to "sell" the poses in isolation - it’s not my natural way of working. Drawing a panel, there is a clear motivation behind every character. I can do it (obviously) but it’s difficult, which is why I don’t offer character commissions the way many artists do.
How did I miss the fact that you were doing a Kickstarter!
It may not have got posted here on Patreon. Maybe because it was more a Boom Box! comics thing? I came across it in the Comments section of Bad Machinery on GoComics.
These are dripping with personality! Awesome!
McGraw holding a drill? Such a practical chap. And so handsome!
I’m sure the backers will be delighted by these. I still cherish my commissioned piece from the early Bad Machinery days.
Lotte!🤓🔥🇬🇧
