Inking practice
I'm trying to get myself back in shape by inking some old pencils. It's hard to find pro pencil pages online that aren't super tightly rendered, ie, no fun to mess with. It's more about getting my problem solving brain to work than trying to get lovely lines.
These pencils are Ken Lashley on The Flash in the mid oughts, I think. Not a strong page by any means - I don't think Ken was hired for his quiet, emotional pages, but rather his action stuff. He zooms in here, I think when he should zoom out, so you end up with no body language and faces that don't tell you anything about what the characters are feeling. I couldn't tell if they were happy, sad, or indifferent. But I tried to divine what was going on.
I did enjoy the chance to fix a nose that had wandered well off centre. These superhero guys and the sudden nasal migration! Almost every page I practice on has one! In any case, no doubt I wrecked as much as I fixed with my clodhopper linework - no disrespect to the original. I was just having a bit of fun.

Spectacular.
Your figures always have a certain… angular (?) quality that I will always love.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen you do one of these. I love these.
Sudden Nasal Migration - the new album from Clodhopper Linework.
Also, this is neat, John. I love seeing your inks over others' pencils - as the finished page is very distinctively your style. I recall some DC comic many years back that had inks my Matt Howarth (with someone else penciling), and it strongly looked like Howarth had done all the art.
I shall be watching for nasal migration from now on
These are lovely, John. Agree, Lashley should have zoomed out.
All digital?
Yes!
Very nice. For a sec I thought it was Erin Winters & Eustace Boyce: the later years.
I was thinking the woman could pass for Shelley, but M. Flash certainly has a certain The Boy-ish qualities.
