Under the cosh
I'm struggling under the weight of a ferocious workload of late, which is why updates here have been thin on the ground. It got to the point this week where I had to work out what I could jettison - never a good sign. It's hard to get back a sandbag you chucked out of the old hot air balloon.
But I have not forgotten you. Once I have finished drawing NEMS pts 2&3, sending two minis to print (NEMS pts 2&3 aka 1968 and Savage Sword of Susan), writing Solver 16, setting up Solver (which has been expertly chopped up in Indonesia) on Webtoon, sending new things to GoComics, preparing a workshop, recording a podcast, preparing items for Thought Bubble Festival in November, and many other professional tasks, I will return with the kind of low-rent fun we all enjoy. Terrible drawings, scarely-edited essays. Comic PDFs will continue to arrive as scheduled.
As my Off Panel podcast interview a few weeks ago made plain, it is a tricky time for me professionally, not a crisis, but definitely a hands-to-the-pumps moment. And alas, there is usually only one pair of hands to man those pumps.
You are doing your bit by contributing here, and I am grateful. I do not take it for granted.

Prioritise yourself, your health and your continued ability to make and share amazing comics. May your pump be primed and many-handed.
Please provide links to the Webtoon and GoComics material when they become available. Thanks,
Of course. No spoilers Mark: they're re-runs.
Honestly I'm chuffed to hear you've got all the work you can handle (and then some). Be blessed and take care of yourself, we're all rooting for you✌️
Haha, sadly it's not the kind of work where someone hands you a big pile of cash at the end, it's all promotional work. Sometimes it pays off and sometimes it really doesn't!
But what does this have to do with the hyperbolic cosine?
Well, NEWS and Susan are some good stuff. Wouldn't want that to suffer. Oh, next time you're up in a balloon, don't drop a whole sandbag. Pour the sand out. That way you can refill the bag and you won't crush another chihuahua. ( Poor Tiny )
Take care John. Hope to see you at Thought Bubble - if I were to bring some cake or similar is there any flavour that would best sustain you?
You're very kind Tim, no need to bring me cake, yourself is enough.
Sounds like a lot of great stuff is going to happen. Can't wait to see what is the new material for GoComics.
It's just Solver reruns from the start in the old Bad Machinery slot. Seemed a shame for the readers there to miss out on Lottie's further adventures.
You're just saying that because you don't want anyone to think you're a Superhero Artist. Finding the best things to do with your limited time is probably what needs being done constantly and your concern over doing it right simply follows. >>>Quality Control to you!<<<
Wishing you, in the words of my countryman Herman Melville, "Time, Strength, Cash, and Patience!"
I’d be fascinated to hear about the “webtoon ification” process. I feel like native webtoons stuff has a pretty specific visual language (which I don’t especially like, but it’s interesting). I’ll be interested to compare and contrast
There's a visual language and pacing to it that makes sense once you see how the sausage is made. My comics are quite flexible. Your hat isn't going to fly off your head in surprise when you see how they've been re-formatted.
Plus another year around the sun to observe if not celebrate🥳🥂
Eight days to go!
Happy to help! Also, TIL the phrase "under the cosh."
Better to have too much going on than not enough. New material for GoComics? Solver on Webtoons? I am the intrigued one.
Solver on both.
That sounds like a ton to handle. Hope there’s a good way to streamline the process. Also wonder what’s going to GoComics.
Solver!
