Were we ever so young
I'm tidying my endless Photos library and found the picture below. Apparently one day in 2013 I decided to draw a huge picture of the Bad Machinery cast in my A3 pad. Knowing me, this will have been in one sitting. Now you might ask where this picture is now. I wish I knew. I couldn't draw something like this any more.
When I was about 15, I drew, from memory, the entire cast of the TV show Byker Grove. I was not watching the show at the time, and had no reference. Now, I'm not great at likenesses, but I've seldom been so satisfied with a drawing. I took it to school and pointed at it, look, I said, there is something here. And no one saw fit to disabuse me of this which, to say that we were 15, was as ringing an endorsement as you were ever going to get. Needless to say, I lost the drawing. It is probably filed with this one, in some dimensional pocket just out of reach.
It annoys me that there is some part of my brain that will serve up these little delights, but only, roughly, every ten years or so. The rest of the time, the factory just makes the same old baked beans.

Why couldn’t you do something like this now?
My get up and go got up and left
As someone who draws a bit I find these ensemble drawings miraculous I could never keep any of it straight
Couldn't possibly be on a single T shirt. 4 more likely, so if you had good chums the entire cast could be assembled. There might be applause or at least finger pointing as viewers recognized their fav
Byker Grove? Must be a drama about British motorcycle enthusiasts who retire to a copse for high tea.
Alas, google says no. Eighteen seasons? Whoa.
One wonders if that was the inciting incident which led you to this life of penury.
Is that the guy under the bridge blamed for arsons, upper left edge?
Yes, the troll man!
Amazing.
That’s good stuff!
That's amazing. I'd wear the heck out of that t-shirt.
"It annoys me that there is some part of my brain that will serve up these little delights, but only, roughly, every ten years or so. To other people, they're magic beans. In good years, I get whole cows for them! But for me, the truly delightful beans feel all too far between. (EDIT: Hit enter by mistake. Dammit.) I try to remember that each daily bean is a step toward the next delight-a-bean. I think I've ransacked that metaphor now, but the point is I really identify with this post.
Yes, we’ve just got to keep canning those beans until the machine until the machine pops out that rare can of lobster bisque.
The old baked beans are great stuff! Just saying.
Agreed
Warms my heart to see them all gathered together! (And Jack looking a little bewildered in the crowd is both spot-on and relatable.)
Heard from somewhere that there was once talks about adapting Bad Machinery into a TV show (same applies to Giant Days) Anything you can share on that or is there an NDA in place (or you simply don’t want to which is fine)
I don’t see the picture
saaaaaame
