July 2023 Preview: A new age for Sunland!
Good evening guys,
We are back from our -really short- holidays with an incredible miniature preview post here in Patreon, the complete and massive Sunland Batallion coming this July 2023 to Highlands Miniatures, but first:
First of all, thank you for your lovely words and recommendation in our previous post about our little holidays to Italy. Marta and I had a wonderful time there, we visit many awesome places and went to eat to some of your recommended trattorias.
As a 3D sculptor I have had a blast walking through all those breathtaking sculptures done in marble and stone many centuries ago. It was also amazing to see how -even then- the use of heroic proportions in sculptures was heavily used to represent mythological and biblical interpertation of characters, being the David of Michelangelo the biggest expression of these proportions.
We also had the chance to visit the Bargello Museum in Florence and the incredible blacksmith gallery inside the museum, full of renaissance armours and weapons, giving me the final inspiration to deliver this amazing new set of Sunland miniatures.
We came back full of energy and ready to deliver more amazing set of miniatures in the following months!
In a never ending effort to bring you the best quality miniatures possible, we decided a few months ago that there was a clear need to update the old line of Sunland miniatures to match our current sculpt direction and to bring those miniatures to a proper light.
As estated in the Highlands Miniatures Roadmap for 2023, we reserved the following July 2023 to begin with this process and for that matter we have worked very hard to release a massive set of new sculpted Sunland miniatures to replace but also to add to the available line.
All the miniatures come with modular heads. The goal with this new range of Sunland miniatures is to be able to use any of the available heads in any of the available miniatures, so there will be plenty of heads to add variation to the miniatures.
We will come back again in the future to Sunland to continue updating the line and to bring more and exciting miniatures!
The July 2023 Release will be composed of:

7x Sunland Troops with Swords
3x Sunland Troops with Swords Command Group
7x Sunland Arquebusiers and Crossbowmen
1x Sunland Great Cannon

5x Sunland Pistoleers
4x Sunland Pistoleers with Repeater Guns
1x Sunland Pistoleer with hand mortar

This is absolutely wonderful. I love the new horses and I am so excited to print and paint them. What an incredible effort! I also think that your old sculpts are fantastic so I love that I have both versions :)
Just as I was about to finish painting a regiment of the old Sunland halberdiers 😅 Those new/updated models look great.

This is a really massive release! To be fair, the difference between your latest sculpt and the old Sunland miniatures was tangible and I’m glad you decided to update them to your current standard. Love the “battallion ready to play” idea, maybe this could be used when you launch a brand new race on the market. Guess it requires a lot of effort and work, more than what is needed for an ordinary monthly release, but surely such a juicy release could be a great kick to start a race. As a side note, really happy both of you enjoyed your trip to Italy, our art, food and, I hope, everything else 😁 I really whish you’ll be back again one day, since there is so much to see and enjoy all around the country that you won’t be disappointed by a second visit :) Keep up the great work!

Great stuff. Only thing that's not hitting it for me are how MASSIVE the handguns are. Like the GW ones from 7th edition. Not for me. Guess the 'old' versions will still be about on MMF for purchase?

Thank you Ryder! We missed them too! But due to the holidays, we didn't had the time to work on female miniatures for this set as they are harder and more complicated to design, but they will come! There will be also modular female heads in the future so you can use these base bodies as female miniatures too!

Look awesome! My one quibble is that the muskets and repeaters look a *little* chunky for my taste.
Glad you like them Laurence! Me like chunky! haha The idea for these matchlocks comes from a few references we found in Florence, in the Bargello Museum, but we increased the size of the barrel to be more resin and printer friendly!
