The Khazarian Gunners and new Wednesday WIP!

Hi guys! ⚔️

Hope you are all doing great! Today we want to talk about two things: the full preview of the Khazarian Gunners and the new serie we want to start with all of you, the Wednesday WIP!

The Khazarian Gunners are the second ogre unit for this January 2022 Release, and it is composed of four (4) core khazarian gunners, one (1) khazarian gunner captain, one (1) khazarian gunner musician and one (1) khazarian explosive yak!

This time these miniatures aren't modular, so they will come as a single piece due to their design. You will be able to attach some effects to the cannons, like the smoke or the arrows. The design of the cannons and the yak are taken from the Huolongjing, Chinese military guide to "fire weapons" involving gunpowder from the Ming Dinasty.

  • You can learn more about the Huolongjing book HERE

Tomorrow we will send the miniatures to be pre-supported and will be available very soon!

About the the Wednesday WIP: how to create a 3D miniature!

We've been thinking lately about showcasing our workflow and our process to create the miniatures we all love, how we create them and our entire approach to the 3D world. But also to bring some interesting topics, FAQs and other things related to the miniature world in the 3D space, including answers to some questions about how to change things in 3D, how to modify files or how to transform round/square bases and many other topics.

So, the idea is to create a full serie here in Patreon about all of these topics and make a post every wednesday with some cool things. And for the purpose of showing our entire workflow about how to create a miniature, we have to decide first what miniature we should create!

Please, comment below what kind of human miniature you would like for us to create from zero to final STL miniature! As this is going to be a miniature for "educational" purposes and not for selling, it could be any miniature from any game you like!

We have created a new channel in our Discord Server for all of these to answer all your questions, so feel free to join us there!

Hope you like the idea guys, we ready you as always! ❤️

A human? Do you mean a totally not man sized rat?

D
Drip Dingus · January 22, 2022

An educational human? how about a pirate captain? It could fit in with all the WHFB stuff, while having that mainstream crossover appeal, just as a neat little jokey thing.

it depends a lot on the tastes, I prefer the Higlands miniatures for this. I hate full miniatures. I love combining components and expanding the range available. continue with the modular miniatures

I never suggested taking away that option. But when you build full armies, keeping track of what goes where and all the cleaning and curing does get bothersome for me. Maybe they can afford to do so once they get more subs, Cheers

Awesome models. Really the best 3d printable ogres out there by a long shot! I do have a suggestion though. Many of your models have separate files for hands, weapons, and so on. It is less of an issue for bigger models like the ogres, but for human-sized ones, it is a pain to deal with. And while that is nice to have for modularity, I would greatly appreciate an option to print "complete" models, like the ones offered by OnePageRules, for example. It can be really frustrating to go through dozens of hands and tiny weapons, remove them from the supports, clean them, and then hope to remember where they all need to go as they are not always interchangeable. Most of the time, I don't need 50 of the same type, so a few complete models that I can mirror on the X-axis are more than enough. And for the few times that I do need more, the modular option would still be there. I realize that this means more work for you, but I think many would appreciate it, and some of the biggest STL patreons like OPR are already doing it. That is probably the only reason why I often choose their models over yours for units and armies. Thank you for your awesome models. Cheers!

Well, that's a perfect example of different views. :) I am more than happy for every single piece which I can use to modify and convert. I know it is time consuming, but sometimes I put all those pieces together in the slicer as one miniature so I have not the issue with removing supports from tiny parts. :)

Really like the Ogres. Looking forward to the full roster. For your Mini Tutorial - maybe a cursed Knight whos in the process of transforming into a monster/werwolf. Would cover a a lot of things to show :)

the Yak is going to be so usefull for many things ! As for wednesday WiP - how about an assasins creed inspired mini: either Pirate Edward or Ezio

Nice. They might be even more usefull if we get modular heads with dwarwish beards and hairstyles ;)

It’s an awesome idear. Personnaly I’m really open about the theme of the sculpt, but I think minis should teach the different faces and specificity of sculpting ; from general proportion and articulation to clothes, head and faces, etc… Think an human is à good choice, something generic but not too much to be interested… seeing others idear, a thief or a medieval citizen can be a good start.

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 20, 2022

Thank you Pierre! That is exactly the idea, to find something that allow us to showcase how to create a good variety of things: ropes, armours, weapons, details... Thank you for sharing your idea! :D

Would love to see a pirate/privateer type character for the tutorial. Lots of different textures to cover and you could even do static vs dynamic posing. Looking forward to it!

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 20, 2022

Thank your sharing your idea Ian, sounds very interesting!

Ellery Herraman · January 20, 2022

As far as the tutorial, how about a wizard? The arcane cannon could really do with a wizard to operate it.

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 20, 2022

Thank you for sharing your idea! We prefer something with more different elements in their outfit, to be able to show how to create more things in the serie! :D

J
Josh Gelinas · January 20, 2022

how about an old school black powder long gunner?

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 20, 2022

That could be great to show many interesting things! Thank you for sharing your idea :D

Love the ogres, always got a soft spot for these big guys, I feel kinship with them! I'd love to see free company militia for your sunland guys, you could also do a few different torso's, heads and throw some cloaks and have the same for the Hussars

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 20, 2022

Thank you very much Simon, glad you like them! The Sunland militia will be the next couple of units coming for Sunland, that is for sure! :D

how do i setup my pateron on myminifactory account?

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 20, 2022

Hi Crispin! We have just replied to your private message :D

S
Salzbrezeln · January 19, 2022

Good job on the ogres! Since it would be a tutorial miniature, it needs to have some interesting details and texture to show techniques on - either chainmail or overcoat/robe/fur. And since it can be anything at all , Darth Vader pops as iconic. Or Gandalf (might be dull, but tutorial videos with easily recognizable characters probably draw more attention)

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 20, 2022

Thank you for your comment! That is exacly the idea, to find a miniature with a good balance of different elements to show as many things as possible, including ropes, armours, weapons... :D

Alexander Eckert · January 19, 2022

Great idea and I really look forward to it. What kind of human? A cossack, of course. :D

Karol Martin · January 19, 2022

Yeey for the yak! I will need to kitbash a flaming barrow on his arse to make him closer to historical, and more fun ;P

N
Niels Kristensen · January 19, 2022

I love these cigar smoking maniacs! For the human model: How about a Varyag barbarian/marauder type - who knows: Could be relevant for future releases? :P

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 19, 2022

Glad you like them Niels and thank you for sharing your idea!

J
John Hammer · January 19, 2022

I second the toiling peasant suggestion

J
Jeff V · January 19, 2022

Good fit with the prior warriors. I understand the monopose because of the weapons, although I would have suggested modular heads for some variety. There's always a balance of dynamic poses versus more rank and file look. Honestly I think you generally hit a great mid point between the two where we can repeat print multiple units that don't look too strange next to each other. For these I can probably kitbash some extra heads from somewhere. Perhaps you could give us the hat by itself as a bit we could attach? As for the human miniature, although I'd like a mage I think the idea of a simple supporting model would be great. Squire to noble knights from the past, acolyte to the inquitors, something like that.

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 19, 2022

Thank your sharing your idea! We will include the hat as separate bit for these ogres!

A
AntonSh · January 19, 2022

It would be nice to make a miniature of a medieval peasant at work - suitable for both historical game and fantasy

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 19, 2022

Thank you for sharing your idea Anton! It could be really fun to sculpt that!

B
Ben Twineham · January 19, 2022

seeing how you've done King Arthur, both the Monty Python one, and a classic fantasy one, how about doing Saber from Fate zero? give the weaboos a bit of love xD

H

Thank you for sharing your idea Ben!

I'd like to see how you create a dismounted Cuirassier (maybe Prussian if the game doesn't matter or 30Years War) hiding behind his horse (or without it in a fighting pose).

H
Highlands Miniatures · January 19, 2022

Thank you for sharing your idea! We really like the look of the French cuirassiers! :D
