The Cult of Marduk

Marduk was the patron deity of the city of Babylon and eventually rose to become the supreme god of the Mesopotamian pantheon. Originally a local agricultural deity, his status grew alongside Babylon’s political power.

Marduk had a deep symbolic and etymological connection to bulls, which were ancient symbols of virility, strength, and solar power. The name "Marduk" is believed to be derived from the Sumerian phrase Amar-utu, which translates to "Bull-calf of the Sun" (or "Calf of the Sun God Utu").

Marduk was best known as the hero of the Enuma Elish (the Babylonian Creation Epic), where he defeats the chaos dragon Tiamat -and the 11 monsters of chaos created by Tiamat-to bring order to the universe. One of these monsters was Kurasikku.

The Kusarikku (or "Bull-Man") was a mythological demon or hybrid creature possessing the head, arms, and torso of a human, but the horns, ears, and hindquarters of a bull. After the defeat of Tiamat, instead of destroying the Kusarikku entirely, he subdued them. In later Mesopotamian tradition, the Kusarikku became a protective spirit.

The Marduk Cultists are the fanatic followers of the deity and supreme god Marduk. These fanatical followers fight as berserkers in the battlefield, carrying only simple robes and robust axes, maces and spears. Their faces, covered by a bull-like mask, stand as a testament to their binding devotion, a faceless brotherhood sworn to the service of the King of Gods.

The Marduk Cultists and Marduk Sorcerer are designed over a 20x20mm square base.

Marduk Bull and Marduk Minotaurs

The Marduk Bull is, well, a big bull. We, as spaniards, know about bulls, so it was great to put our knowledge to work on... a bull. A big winged bull!

We decided to include two dwarf drovers as part of the overall design of the piece, to bring a bit more of storytelling into the final design. Those miniatures are not required for the final miniature and the bull can be printed as a standalone piece.

The Marduk Bull is designed over a 60x100mm square base.

For the design of the Marduk Minotaurs we decided to continue with the idea of the Kusarikku mixed with some Minotaur references from the Greek Mythology. The laminar armor and clothing tries to blend the aesthetic of these miniatures with the overall aesthetic of the Sons of Marduk.

Searching for the perfect references and overall defining style were challenging to achieve, but both the process and the final result were absolutely worth it. We really love how these miniatures turned out (hope you guys think the same!).

The Marduk Minotaurs come with different build options. The one handed option come with modular hands, including alternative hand weapons, open hand and shield. You can also convert a one handed option into a musician.

The Marduk Minotaurs with two handed weapons, captain and bannerman come as single pieces, they are not modular.

The Marduk Minotaurs are designed over a 50x75mm square base.

Kusarikku, Great Marduk Minotaur, comes with separated hands and base for easier printing and painting.
