Update on what's happening behind the scenes!
Hello Patreon Brains! The show's been a bit quiet lately, but behind the scenes there's been a lot of activity -- and it's all good news for the show. Come hang out, I'll fill you in!

Hey, so like, I'm new here but I wanted to pop in and say thanks. I didn't really know I had adhd, in fact I felt life a failure all the time with an anxiety disorder. My significant other bright it up and I started to look up info. I watched all of your videos and I have a diagnosis now. Maybe things will be better as I learn more about missing and get systems that will actually help. Anyway I wanted to say thanks. A lot of what's helping me now is stuff I learned through your videos... So thanks!
I am the same story. I didn't know I had it. I was diagnosed last month. I've been using the videos as mentor for life. It's really helped in so many areas of my life.
He is 7. In the second grade soon to be 3rd.
Meditation. Medicine. Mental Voice . (Inner talk that we all hear ourselves saying that we either can or can't do something. Make your inner voice your strongest coach and supporter. You would be surprised at how strongly it affects you.
yes yes yes. Agreed! I've been meditating since the beginning of the year and it's making a big difference already. And how to combat automatic negative thoughts will be a future topic too :)
I do have a question. What is the best format to suggest ideas? I have a financial/budgeting tool/system I've been using for a few years now that is the first thing that has ever been a successful fit for my brain. My son has adopted the system too and it's working for him as well. Thinking other brains would enjoy hearing about it.
ooo that sounds great! that's an episode we'll be tackling soon actually, can you email it to me? howtoadhd@gmail.com
This is a marathon and not a sprint. You're doing great and take whatever time you need. I'd hate to see you push too hard and hit the wall.
I was always better at sprints :D It's been an educational experience to figure out how to do the marathon version of life.
Question: any tips on how to focus during lectures? I was almost crying in class today because I was so frustrated that I couldn't pay attention. I already fidget, sit in the front, try to make notes and take meds, but it's not enough..
is there a way to gamify it for yourself? ADHDers have interest-based learning, if you're super bored all the tools in the world won't work. Example: if you're taking Italian class, pretend you're moving to Italy at the end of the week and need to learn all you can before you get there. If it's history, don't focus on the dates -- learn the stories and try to understand the general timeline and cause-and-effect. Pretend you have a time machine and you're trying to figure out where and when to go to stop something from happening. Whatever works for you, just try to find SOMEthing interesting about the lecture and it'll be way easier to focus on it :)
Thank you so much Jessica for all that you're doing! And good to hear that you're getting extra people onboard to help you out. I've had the feeling for a while now that you needed that.
yeah, you're not wrong :) took us awhile to admit we needed the help.
Thank you! Try not to stress. One thing at a time. Us brains can go over the videos and make sure we have it all down. :) Q for any brains here: do you have a preference between Asana and Todoist? I want something that I can sync everything to one thing (google cal, pomodoro, ect)
I've become a huge fan of Todoist for a few reasons. It's very Bullet Journal like but it travels better with my current lifestyle. Also it's everywhere and task management tools are only as good as they are visible. I have it on my phone, email, at the top of my browser, and there are even other integrations I'm not even using. I see it all the time no matter where I am which is exactly what my brain needs.
Hey, hello, hi, umm I just wanted to say that your videos have really helped me understand me and my son a bit better. So thank you. A lot.
that's so cool to hear! how old is he? what's his name?
.... no surprise here, I got distracted. But back now and catching up on the log!
We're going to get back to working on this week's episode, I just wanted to take the time to touch base, say hi and update you all :) chat again soon!
Dont work yourself too hard. :)
Bottom line, things might still be a little slow for a month or two while we get the new editor up to speed (and the researchers get *me* up to speed!) but if all goes well, by summer we'll be putting out an episode a week again, and they'll be better than ever :)
As long as your fingers don't fall off from hanging on that cliff for too long ;-)
Edward and I are both dedicated to building a safe, supportive community for ADHD brains, providing tools to help with the challenges, and doing the research to help all of us do battle with the ADHD myths and understand our amazing brains :)
I also want to thank all of you for being so unbelievably patient while we figure out our new workflow. This show is so important to me, and while it frustrates me to no end when I fall behind or Edward can't get to the edits as soon as I want him to, or my brain goes rogue and hyperfocuses on something else for a week...
I needed this so much. ❤️ I have been pretty upset with my ADHD lately. I love this community you built ❤️
Yeah, I feel that. I have my days for sure. What's going on?
All this in between your wedding preparations. Hope you're not too stressed out!
Haha it is a lot, admittedly -- and we found out rent at our building is increasing by over $200/month, so we're also looking for a new place to live.
How very exciting! Can't wait to hear more.
3) the website development is going well! We should still be on track to have it up by mid-summer -- it'll be an amazing place for brains to connect and find more info!
2) it's becoming pretty clear that Edward's job is much more demanding lately, so we're training in a new editor to help us get the videos out more regularly. He also has ADHD and a strong background in ADHD research -- he's also working on a documentary about it and has interviewed many professionals!
This is all truly amazing, thank you!
Thank *you* for the support to help me make it happen!
I've *also* found a researcher who specializes in ADHD and knows plenty of others who do, too! We'll officially announce him in a month or two if all goes well, but so far he's been a wealth of information.
I've been working behind the scenes with a researcher who's teaching me how to efficiently systematically review research and better understand the more technical terminology.
1) we just brought on some extra research help, which means I'll (finally) be able to tackle some of the biggest and most requested episodes soon -- on medication, how exercise affects the ADHD brain, driving safety tips for ADHDers and lots more!
Okay, so exciting news, and lots of it --
Hello!
