How I Finally Faced My Biggest Wall of Awful

For years I put off dealing with my late Mom’s car. A lot made it difficult. Grief. Paperwork. Money. Recalls. Brick by brick, a wall of awful built between me and this car. It was emotional to do, but I finally decided to face my wall of awful. And I learned some things along the way… and was reminded of things I’d forgotten.

I am currently playing this video while tackling my Wall of Awful. 26 seconds in I've already opened my banking app. Of course, now I see I've distracted myself with writing this comment, buttttttt, still farther than I've gotten in weeks and I can get back to it.

I am getting past something currently, and feeling through it. I had tickets to see my favourite singer do her last concert date, I tried so hard to get the tickets, and after I gave up, one magically came through. Then the last possible flight to get there on time, my dad lent me the money after I pleaded and then my friend was lending me money for hostels while there. I waited on my friend’s etransfer but I missed the timeframe to be at the airport before check-in closed. If I had asked my dad for taxi fare while I waited on my friend it could’ve all worked out. But I wanted to be independent after asking him for the flight itself. I wish I had asked for the fare to get there, my worries weren’t legit, since my friend did etransfer me, yet I was worried my dad would think I didn’t have enough money for the trip itself and so I didn’t ask him for the fifty for a taxi. Cause of that I missed my flight which had cost 1500, and had to resell my seated front row tickets to Ariana grande’s eternal sunshine tour, I know it would’ve been so much fun and very healing if I had gone, and I was excited to ride the train after it and go stay in Scotland after the concert. Instead I’m at home, waking up in the middle of the night and just started journaling about it. I think the thing I’m most worried about is that my dad won’t trust me again, he believed I would get there and paid for the flight there, and then I felt I should figure out the taxi fare myself. I had realized it’s more like they are my pit-crew in racing, and I was a driver everyone believed in, but I refused to ask for the one detail that would’ve helped me win the race and make it all worth it to my loved ones that had tried to help it come true💛

Thank you for your vulnerability ❤️ You're someone who i look up to and feel amazed by all you've accomplished ! This video and the series with Cass and the house sorting were really inspiring. They show that even people i assume have their lives under control can still struggle over some aspects, and we can all feel overwhelmed in front of some tasks. The fact that in both cases you recognized your struggle and acted by asking for help also incentivize reaching out for the support we need. Hope you will soon feel good driving it. Maybe it could become a symbol of your capability to climb even the biggest of walls !
