Watching you guys hug at the end of the video literally made me cry. It felt like such a hug of genuine friendship which is so awesome to see. I know I’ve had moments in my own life when a hug felt so forced and awkward, and other times when it felt like a real and genuine act of love and friendship. I’m so happy to see people who’ve also struggle with friendships actually having a moment of genuine friendship. It gives me hope for my own friendships.
Such a good video. I bought the book straight away and looking forward to reading it!
found this so helpful and will definitely check out the book. I always thought I was just a solitary person that was very happy in my own Company that didn’t really need other people but as I’ve recently discovered (after realising late in life that I am ADHD up the Yin yang) I do very much need people in my life and I love people but I have been protecting myself all this time by isolating myself so I didn’t get hurt or rejected. I think this book will help me and other ADHDers a lot. Looking forward to reading it!
I really struggle with that sense that I have to take what I can get or accept anyone who seems to like me. Part of it is that I love people and am a people pleaser, and part of it is that I feel like everyone should be kind to each other and everyone is so interesting so of course there's no reason I should not try to be friends with everyone, but there's definitely also that kernel of "take what you can get, you can't afford to turn anyone away"... even if I have more connections than I have time for already!
PS - if you, like me, avoid Amazon and Audible like the plague, the audiobook is on Libro.fm as well: https://libro.fm/audiobooks/9781405568029-friendship-skills-for-neurodivergent-adults
Love that she redirected you saying “being weird, or cutting people off is my authentic self.” - that she said “it’s not your authentic self, it’s a skill set you’ll need to build.” Which felt very positive and assuring that we can build ourselves up in making friends☺️
"Fitting in is cutting off pieces of yourself." I love that so much!
