When we're dysregulated it can be hard to use the tools we have in the moment. But I found a great way to help with that... which is a bit ironic given my favorite word-- SECOND favourite word on this channel is toolbox... ANYWAY! Grab a box and let me tell you about why that box is important!

Do people with ADHD have panic attacks but they don't feel like 'panic' instead they feel like unregulated emotional episodes or something? Because I've heard that people with ADHD have panic attacks and I don't think I've ever had one but then I wonder if that's because it doesn't feel like panic for people with ADHD maybe it feels like something else like being completely overwhelmed and shutting down..?
Headspace is fine but a lot of the content is repeated for different things. That excerpt that was played in this video was one of the first meditations made years ago on the headspace app. I found some alternatives including one run by a not-for-profit foundation in the Netherlands but I won't name it because I'll probably get banned... lol
There is a lot of evidence that says toddlers and children having access to smartphones particularly having them close to their faces has a very negative cognitive effect in the long term. Please genuinely look this up because it is worth just keeping toddlers and children away from phones and devices not just because the apps can be addictive and things but because just being that close to a screen itself from a young age can really affect their sight and more than that studies have shown that it can affect their ability to learn literacy and numeracy over the long term.
Could we call it a Regulation Station?
We just buried my mom 2 days ago and my emotions are ALL over the place. I am a total mess and having a “go to” is awesome! Also taking advantage of headspace trial.
I have been in a near constant state of overwhelm for nearly two weeks. Definitely going to put together a reboot box! Also making note of options that might work for kiddos struggling with emotional regulation in the classroom - and my own kids. I’ve been told that very sour candy can be another sensory tool - similar to the TIPPs - that can hijack and reboot the system when needed. Has anyone else had experience with that? Thank you for this!
Check-in: I'm ok. Layering a head cold on the never ending winter here where I live in Ontario is taking its toll. Thank you for sharing this idea. About a year ago I created one for my adhd daughter (who was 11 at the time) - I didn't realize it was a "thing!. I think she has used it a couple times, but I'm not sure since I don't push her to tell me. I made it because in those emotionally dysregulated moments, the last thing she wants from me is a suggestion / strategy to try. But now that I can show her that YOU have a calm box too, I will have her 'own' it, and revamp it herself and put it where she wants it. And since I don't have one myself, she and I can body double to create one! PS I do not know why my computer is capitalizing every I! haha.
What about "Reboot Box"? Like a computer that is being powered down, then back up so that it can function better and not crash.
I LOVE that!
I really, really needed this video today. This week has been a bad one for regulating my emotions and I had to leave work early today because my brain was just overloaded. I especially needed "Don't weaponize this" because I had been scolding myself for "not being strong enough to control my emotions." UGH. I have some different tools and tactics I use to help myself get grounded and centered, none of them work all of the time, but they all work some of the time, at different times. Putting them all together in a "calm box" or in a list that's a companion to my dopamenu would be very helpful for me to do. Thank you!
