Birdwatching + Magic = Pokémon GO. Please try it and if you need a guide reach out to me!
Birdwatching is such a unique hobby in that you can do it while doing other things, walking, boating, beach days, etc. And it opens up an extra level of curiosity, like “huh, I’ve only seen great blue herons in/near the water or flying but there’s a bunch up in those pine trees. I wonder why?” Turns out they breed in colonies and nest in trees for that. I’m a big fan of fiber arts/crafts. Crochet, knitting, loom knitting, etc. The cost and amount of attention and/or skill vary widely, but some are just enough to fill the mind gap for me when watching tv or a movie, it’ll keep me seated and off of my phone, which can be a struggle.
so...I tried to comment on youtube and I think it just went into the ether.....but I am a long time patreon subscriber and I am a birdwatcher! and I have birdwatching advice! So. Brave time!! - It's easier for me with a camera. I am always second guessing if I saw that cool rare thing or if it was just a house sparrow. Having a picture helps a lot to assure me that I WAS correct - Look at ebird for where you are going ahead of time to know what to expect. This one is big for my parents. For me....I do a lot of my birding just walking around where I work so there is no ebird except my own to consult - There are birds all around you just don't notice. When you see one you would have overlooked before it is so amazing! - Bird media is so much fun and gives me extra dopamine! there are great picture books out there at your local library, ( A Peak at Beaks https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57413955-a-peek-at-beaks is my favorite) and wonderful podcasts like the Science of Birds and webcomics like the works of Rosmary Mosco https://rosemarymosco.com/comics/bird-and-moon/bird-sounds-guide - don't let other people convince you that there is any such thing as a "trash bird". They are all magical
I've tried a few hobbies which never really stuck. But I've been doing aerial fitness for 7 years now and love it! I like aerial hoop/lyra the best but silks is also fun. It makes exercise feel like play again. Would definitely recommend aerial or circus skills as a hobby to try.
I forget, is Early Access a perk, or is the Ad-free version the main one for videos?
