Navigating ADHD: My Aunt’s Strategies and Path to Acceptance

Jessica sits down with her Aunt Susie to talk about her Aunt’s experience of being diagnosed later in life in the early 90’s. They talk about the strategies Aunt Susie used and what she found important in learning to work with her brain, not against it, and how it led her towards self-acceptance.

I also loved this interview with Aunt Susie!! So much to learn from her. I'm probably her age, or a little older. I discovered I had it when my daughter got diagnosed. Same way. we both filled out the forms. Haha. I also like the way I am. I wish I could be more focused sometimes. I'm trying to do some writing and that takes more focus than more people would realize, but I'm on a Reddit writers list and that is helping. I can't take medication because I have Restless Legs and stimulants (even caffeine) aggravate the RLS. So I'm just figuring it out the best I can. I probably need the alarms like she is talking about on my phone. Anyway. Thank you so much for sharing. Oh! And I studied Arabic and went to Jordan in 2014. I loved hearing she had a friend from Jordan. They were an amazing and kind people to me.

I like the shared cleaning idea. I’ve just been diagnosed at 53 turning 54. Have struggled my whole life but thought it was just me. Met a friend when doing ( yet another) course and started learning more about ADHD. I had always thought it was hyperactive boys. Still didn’t consider I was. It was when I started a new relationship and had moved to a new job that it unmasked. I had always been in busy acute nursing roles but moved to a senior role which is office based and boring. Not good for me! Have started on Ritalin which has helped a lot with focus and reduced my negative self talk. Low self esteem has been a massive issue, along with impulsiveness. Have also been a smoker and high caffeine user since my teens. Always felt stupid, clumsy and found relationships challenging. Your channel has been super useful and informative and loving your book Jessica. Thank you 🙏🏻
