Realistic Swimming v2.0
I'm happy to finally release this mod version, after so many months of work (not continuous, rather interrupted often by some life issues, but still).
Great part of this mod was possible thanks to Boschiana CC who "freed" the pool floats from The Poolside Splash Kit, so they can be used with any swimsuit <3 !!!
For my mod to work fully, you need to download Boschiana CC Pool Floats Conversion.
For the mod to work you need also XML injector.
*Install also Join Afterschool Activities - interaction add-on - if you don't see the option on the phone for the swimming classes for children.

My first version of this mod introduced the Swimming skill of 5 levels. At 1st and 2nd level your Sim can drown, however this is limited only to currently active household. The more you know, the more swimming interactions you can use with other packs (like jumping, snorkeling, diving, coaching other Sims in swimming).
Several social interactions were also added, so that Sims could talk about swimming.
And swimming classes (regular or one-time individual lesson).
This mod is fully base game compatible, but having Island Living will be a strong benefit. Also some other packs content was used, mostly for career tasks and objectives.
WHAT'S NEW
Now I'll try to shortly describe what I added or changed, and basically what you can expect from this mod.
1. Aquatic Achiever Aspiration
This is aspiration focused on Swimming itself and related activities.
Reward trait: Ocean Explorer - Sims with this trait can gain some energy and fun, and loose weight faster while swimming, and also they can call dolphins any time (of course interaction to call a dolphin will appear only if you have Island Living).
2. Semi-active Career "Professional Swimmer" that includes 6 branches:
- Coaching
- Olympic Swimmer
- Aquatic Performer
- Underwater Photographer
- Marine Wildlife Specialist
- Aquatic Therapist
Each branch of the career will have some home assignments and objectives. While having only base game will still allow you to use this carreer, also as semi-active career, having more packs will improve the mod possibilities, for example:
Underwater Photographer uses media production skill from Get Famous, diving and snorkeling from Island Living, etc.
Marine Wildlife Specialist uses interactions with dolphins, Vet and Pet training skills from Cats & Dogs, etc.
Olympic Swimmer uses Get Famous so you can have a task to give autographs or to organize a Meeting with Fans. Also you'll need to get some level of fame for promotion.
Aquatic Therapist uses Wellness skill, etc.
You'll get 2 assignments daily, but the below screenshot is just for presentation purposes.
Olympic Swimmer and Aquatic Performer have special rabbit hole interactions to participate in the Swimming Competitions, with various scenarios and outcomes. Winning is a requirement for promotions. Taking part in the competition will give some fame also, regardless of winning or lossing.
* While testing these Competitions interactions, I noticed that sometimes the scenario doesn't appear. I'm not sure why, as I used the mechanism that worked always flawlessly for me. Unfortunately if the scenario doesn't appear, the only way is to repeat the interaction.
3. Pool Floats
There are 14 Pool Floats, available for Adults, Teens and Children. The swatches correspond to swatches available with The Poolside Splash Kit. You can buy a float via Build/Buy Mode, or you can click on the computer and choose the Purchase interaction (listed next to other Purchase interactions). You can have several floats, also of the same colors, they can be stored in the Sim inventory, or put somewhere in the world, also on the pool (however these floaties are not for sitting).
4. Wearing pool floats will protect from drowning
By clicking on the Floaty, you can Wear a Pool Float. The floaty of the chosen texture will appear on your Sim (unfortunately on all clothes categories :D so just choose swimwear ;) ). Now your Sim can swim safely and they will not drown! :)
To take off the floaty, just click on it and use corresponding interaction (option will not be available on the floaty that you don't wear currenly).
5. New Trait "S.W.I.M. Certification" - Simnation Watercraft and Immersion Mastery
Sims with this new trait will be able to Throw a Lifeline to other Sims and to earn money by coaching Sims in swimming.
To get that certification you can:
Complete Swimming classes as a Teen, this will automatically grant you this trait
Complete 4 levels of Professional Swimmer, this will automatically grant you this trait
Once achieving 5lvl of swimming skill, you can try to pass the exam (attempt costs 500$, interaction available when clicking on a Sim). There are 4 questions.
You can use cheat, e.g. MCCC ;)
6. New interaction to Throw a Lifeline
When another Sim is swimming and still has low level of swimming skill, a Sim certified with S.W.I.M can use interaction to Throw a Lifeline. This will automaticall give to swimming Sim a pool float.
It will also work when a Sim is already drowning!
Also, a saved Sim will gain some sentiment toward the Sim who throw a lifeline.
*If someone would like to collab or if I finally learn blender, it would be great to expand this Throw a Lifeline interaction with some cool animations, but now it is, what it is ;)
7. Changes to Island Living careers: Lifeguard and Diver
I added objectives to both careers for swimming skill, and for Lifeguard to pass S.W.I.M. exam.
8. Changes to swimming classes and coaching interaction
Now participating in swimming classes will significantly increase the level of swimming skill.
Coaching other Sims swimming will allow your Sims to earn some money with S.W.I.M. certification. And if a Sim is in the Coach career - earnings will significantly increase. Also a Sim that is mentored will be protected from drowning even without a floaty.
9. Compatibility with Comfort Motive Mod by Waffle's Mix-Ins.
Now when your Sim is swimming and you have this mod by Waffle, your Sim comfort will increase :)
10. Last but not least. Cheat.
I discovered that if your Sim is wearing a pool float and then you sell the pool float from the inventory (it can happen), or I don't know what happens but anyway, you'll miss the original pool float - your Sim will not be able to take it off (due to the mechanism I applied you need the object your Sim is wearing). So just for such a case, so you don't have to remove entire mod from the game, I created a cheat interaction, which will remove completely the pool float from the Sim.
It's available under cheat menu: enable cheats (with code testingcheats true), then shift-click on the Sim and find the interaction Take off Pool Float. Do not use this normally, only in the emergency, when you loose the original floaty object and can't take off the floaty in other way.
KNOWN ISSUES
"Coach in swimming" interaction sometimes appears twice, I have no idea why, I checked so many things that could be the reason of it.
As I mentioned already earlier, while testing Competitions interactions, I noticed that sometimes the scenario doesn't appear. Unfortunately if the scenario doesn't appear, the only way is to repeat the interaction.
Still when you use the ladder from the ocean (Island Living) – the „Risk of drowning” buff doesn't go away. Workaround: it's enough to go to World view and go back to your game and the buff is gone.

An optional version or add-on file that prevents sims from drowning at very low skill levels would provide reassurance for players concerned about accidental in-game fatalities. While a floatation device exists, it may be overlooked during gameplay, increasing the risk of incidents. Such a feature would allow players to enjoy the progression of their sims learning to swim without the anxiety of unexpected loss, balancing realism with peace of mind.
I am having trouble with the certification exam. I can only answer 1 or 2 questions and then it says sorry you failed exam even if I get correct answers. For example, got one right and one wrong and it failed me. A different time, I got a correct answer on the first question, and it failed me. It said sorry you failed and then got a pop up in notifications that said it was the correct answer.
That's a nice idea and I can't say it didn't cross my mind, it's just not that easy to find the balance in Sims. Even autonomous interactions put a lot of troubles on EA themselves to make them working better. I am thinking how to make it more save and yet still challenging. Already when I was releasing it I made the decision that only active household would be affected, so no npc is at risk.
Hi, I may be stupid because idk if suppose to be two different skills but i'm having a bug where both fitness and swimming skill are going up when I do individual classes through the app (not sure if this is suppose to happen or if the same is happening when swimming by myself or when doing classes because I haven't noticed/didn't touch that part)
Hello my friend! I don't get any error when I do this interaction. Can you send me the error that you get? Unless you mean that fitness also increase? In that case it's not a bug, it's intentional, but it should grow at very, very low pace :)

The swimming classes - as "career" it's only afterschool activity for teens and children - maybe you tried it with adults? And for adults there should be an option on the phone for 1 time classes (under career category), so adults don't join any additional career for classes, it's just one time activity.

Hey! Can't remove the floaty for some reason. Tried the truecheats option but there is nothing that would make me remove the floaty. No options there. Any other way to remove it? Or should I remove the mod and restart? The mod is awesome tho! Much love! ♥
Hi, if you already tried this, sorry, I need to make sure. 1. When you use testingcheats true code, are you clicking on Sim with Shift? 2. Are you sure the floaty is applied by the interaction to wear it? Maybe it's just applied in CAS? Maybe you can remove it within the CAS? 3. Do you still have the floaty (object) that applied the floaty to the Sim? If yes, by clicking on this object there should be option to take it off. 4. If none of this works, I am truly sorry, then yeah, removing the mod, launching the game without it, saving and putting back will solve it for sure, but the progress on swimming skill will be gone (I need to work on some settings to keep it saved). You can still cheat it though using MCCC for example and setting the skill level.
Hello Ilkavelle I want to thank you for this mod (and honestly, expand to all your work for the sims community pleasure) that i use flawlessly for so long now ♥ If you accept it, i'd add a suggestion to my thank post Its about the lifeguards on beaches and thx to kuttoe also seen around pools. They are basically part of the decor, but i thought that *maybe* if they could have swim certification, they could also do their actual work and autonomously "throw a line" at drowning sims ? Before i leave, i want to thank you again for everything!

Heyyy im 99% sure this isnt a glitch and is instead an unavoidable thing but i thought id check just in case, sometimes when swimming it still shows the fitness meter, is this intentional/unavoidable? (and if intentional, is it possible to create an override to switch it off ie for mermaid sims who hate fitness) thanksss :)
It was not intentional, I simply have no idea what is responsible for this in the code. I didn't find the line that is responsible for showing up the skill meter so I don't know what to change to show up swimming skill meter :(
Hi, this isn't working for me :(. The swimming skill doesn't or go up when swimming, only when taking the swimming lesson rabbithole. Edit: it turns out it was conflicting with the Gauntlet101010 Reaper mods, it's working now!

Hii! I'm having a little problem with this new skill: I can't train it and I don't even see it as a skill (I don't have the career neither). I think I downloaded everything that was needed, so I don't know what the problem could be
If this was the compatibility issue with another mod, you would at least see the career available on the career panel/list. Careers should be seen even without Boschiana's CC. Do you put it directly in the mod folder, or somewhere deeper?

Hello, I have a problem. I downloaded this mod and everything worked great, but when I made the pool I couldn't find the pool jump. :( I tried to download the mod again, but the jump is still gone. Also, when I put the ring on, everything was great, but after I got out of the pool, I was still wearing the different swimsuit that appeared when I put the ring on. Please help :(
Hi :) Pool jumps were added in Get together. I think only there. So if you have this pack, my mod modify slightly interactions that come with it, but it doesn't add the object.
Hi, I'm having an issue where I've sent my Sim to get the certificate five times. I did answer a question wrong three of the times, but each time she doesn't seem to even have a chance of getting the certificate. On the fourth and fifth times, she was only asked two and then one question(s), respectively, which gave her zero chance to pass.
I'll need to ask someone for help with this, as I don't understand why this is sometimes happening, the replication of it seems very random. For the time being, until I find out the cause and fix it, you can always cheat to add this trait like any other trait in the game.
Hi, I’m having trouble with finding the swimming competitions. I don’t know if I’m missing something but I chose the Olympic swimmer branch and can’t find how to participate in a swimming competitions.
Hi, did you try to click on the Sim? It should be listed there. There are 2 competitions available for Olymptic swimmer: local competitions and professional one but I don't remember if both appear simultaneusly, or if professional one appear a bit later.

No! But if you do use adeepindigo mod, even though I tried to make my mod compatible from my side, you'll probably still need her updated version for both mods to work together correctly. But you can use them separately with no issues. People were reporting to me that when using adeepindigo mod, my mod does not work, so I tried to do something about it.
Hi, sorry to bother you, but I've got rather a strange problem - the 'Barely Floating' and 'still not too confident in water' moodlets seem to be broken slightly in terms of when they appear. When pool floaties are not being worn, my Sims with Swimming Skill below 3 only get those moodlets when they're 'standing' or back-floating in the pool, with no other movement, action or interaction in the queue; when they take any action besides Back Float, the moodlet disappears. Am I right in assuming this is unintentional? It doesn't appear to be a mod conflict with Expanded Mermaids, the only other mod I have that may affect swimming to this extent, because after removing it the issue persists. Happy to provide a log of my other mods upon request
Hi, it's definitely not by design, however I didn't notice any abnormal behaviour when testing it for the patch (apart the bug I mentionned for animation). I plan to review this mod again tomorrow in order to fix this animation issue, so I will take a better look at how buffs appear. Hello, I have a little problem with the fears, when I assisted to the first swim class, my sim gain the fear to the water, I'm continued with the classes and I did the desire to overcome fear, but even when I'm level 5 of swimming, I'm get the fear to the water yet even when I have a lot time of not be in the water.
Hi, I did not override the fear system and I make sure all swimming interactions I override are always up to date with what game gives. The fear that your Sim got, is a game feature and needs to be "taken care of" as other fears. You have to make the Sim swim for an hour while confident or drink the potion. If that doesn't help - there could be some game bug - not the first time if it comes to fears.
My sim isn't taking off the floaty T_T
Hi, so I added an interaction for such a possibility, it's described under the point 10: Last but not least. Cheat. If that doesn't work - then please check if maybe your Sim is simply wearing the floaty available regularly in the CAS :) and try to remove it within the CAS.

Hi! I was wondering if you'd be interested in making your mod compatible with Zero's Career rework (https://www.patreon.com/posts/careers-rework-101368772)? Their mod also introduces a swimming skill (to be used with some careers) which is not nearly as comprehensive but does conflict. I do like the other aspects of their mod though so it's kinda sad I cant use them together.
Hi, I'm sorry, there is too much to be analysed for this. I was trying to look it up but I can't even find the conflicting area. Zero's mod is really big and to use both, we would have to probably do work on both sides. I think you can still use both, but with some small cheating I guess? Or, cause I can see Zero's mod is mostly focused on Careers overhaul, there is also Kuttoe's mod that does similar thing - and it can be used with my mod. Maybe this one would be good for you too?
I would really enjoy trying to use this mod, but it keeps crashing my game and both BE and MCC say its something with the tuning in this mod. Have there been any issues with the Mod recently? I tried to download from both here and Curseforge, and both of them are giving the same error.
Can you please send me both BE and MCCC? did you try only with my mod? There could be some conflict with other mod that is causing this. I play all the time with all my mods installed and nothing like this happen. But I don't use many other mods, so I can't guarantee no conflicts :(
Hi! I really love this mod but, I have problems. The pool floats dosent work, I’m still drowning. I clic on wear pool floats but they not appear. But I think they wear them because in cheat I have the option put them offf. Also, my kids have the “question mark suit” when they wearing them. And the other problems, even on skill 5 I’m drowning. When they go swimming are they suppose to put them on automatically when it’s in their inventory? Thank you and sorry…
That doesn't sound good. So firstly - no, Sims will not wear pool float automatically (but it's a very good idea! I wonder if I manage to add it....). Do you have the most updated version of pool floats by Boschiana? Cause some of the issues sound like outdated CC problem... As for drowning on skill 5 - this is the biggest mystery for me. Hi! This mod shows up as conflicting with ADeepIndigo's Healthy Living. Not sure what conflicts with what but just wanted to let you know in case they could be made compatible. Also, how does this work on community pool lots? Does everyone there run the risk of drowning since I assume unplayed households won't learn unless I cheat it?
I will check the compatibility. I hope it's easy to fix, most probably some things that override swimming interactions. As for the community lots, don't worry, NPCs should not drown. I set it up that only active currently household is affected by drowning. I want to expand it to NPCs and other families, but it's not easy to tune it and avoid massive drowning ;) So I'm still experimenting :D but in the public version only active household Sims can drown.

I just wanted to ask you, if it's possible to have a beach ball (like the one from Horse Ranch) (no override); but for the pool, so it would float on the pool and it would be awesome if Sims could play with it. Hi! Did you download also the Boschiana CC sets? All the CAS swimming rings were added by her, so you'll need her CC to make it work!
I have a question so will the NPC sims or other sims that you've played but aren't in your household just drown or does something prohibit that?
NPC Sims and Sims in general from other household will no drown because of my mod (but they can drown from other in game causes though it's extremely rare). I set it up this way, because otherwise they were just drowning all the time, especially in Sulani. I am constantly thinking how to add for NPCs and other households possibility to drown but with some better control (?). Because that would make gameplay more interesting, for sure, but we also don't want entire Sims community to suddenly drown because the Watcher was not paying attention for a moment what's happening far in the ocean ;)
So excited for this! Possibly too much to ask but worth a shot. Would you consider possibly adding floats similar to the sims 2 ones for tods and maybe infants so they can use pools also? Idk honestly if EA added it or if it’s a mod but if you google it you can see what I mean. It makes me sad that EA didn’t add this 😒 Also the fact that they can play in the OCEAN by themselves but can’t use the kiddie pool without an adult and the annoying bath time animation. I want them to be able to use the ocean interaction in the kiddie pool so they can use it without an adult but I’ve yet to find a mod that does it
Looked a little more into the swim tubes. Definitely a mod. EA never had it for sims 2 either so a modder made them on modthesims by cloning the high chair. https://modthesims.info/d/295114/updated-toddler-swim-tube.html

Thank you :) No, it will not conflict at all. My career is a custom one. And Kuttoe's mod does not override Lifeguard nor Diver careers, I checked that when I was adding these additions, because I also use this mod :)
