The lumina dragons are unmatched in the open air races, but they have difficulty navigating the canyon passages, which is a big part of the finals. they can do it, there was one silver twenty years ago that set a new record for the fastest time. she developed a wing tuck technique that revolutionized how the silvers flew, and the other clans all had to adjust. karas actually took the traditional three beat glide pattern reds usually use, and reduced it two powerful wing beats and a longer glide, which is dangerous, because if he loses momentum it's harder to catch up. but he saves on stamina, and so can execute more dramatic maneuvers with his powerful wings, cutting off dragons tailing him from behind.

Sublight Monster has made me realize that I have: 1. Capital-O Opinions about characters. 2. To go back to one of my favorite bookstore's bookclubs.*★ (*) Even though they pick bad modern mysteries where there's no way to figure out whodunnit. Older mysteries are way better because there was TOO MUCH irrelevant information and observations, like real life, but it was still possible to solve whodunnit before the end. (★) They also serve alcohol.
Fafnir can write these characters in whatever way is expedient to the story he wants to tell. This is me having too much free time watching washing machines at the laundromat.

Yes, he seems like a genuinely good guy (without much going for him and is ok with that in life, more below). He's the friend that is the only one that showed up to help you move during a polar vortex (I have that friend and he's great even if he wants to yak at me about football.) Rage seems real laid back compared to Flare's sister Blaze and father. Even that joker Blaze threatens seems more motivated. Rage acknowledged he was bad with runes, which seems like an essential job requirement if you're stationed in the middle of nowhere, the solitary Warden at a rune powered prison. I think he knows that he was shipped out there because he doesn't fit into the highly motivated Wildfire clan structure. (He's still a very messy Red dragon.) As such, he'll get to know anyone to make an opinion. Thank you got coming to my TED Talk. /rant

Honestly Rage just seem like a good natured himbo. He knows his sister cares for Elias, and can tell he is struggling with something. He wants to make him feel welcome and comfortable, so he invites Elias to share in a topic he is passionate about in an attempt to bond. It'll be fun to see more of Rage's personality as time goes by
Assuming they grew up together he should know Flare has an restless tail.
