CHANNEV

Hi all!

Here is CHANNEV!

Ultimate channel-strip with Mic Preamp, De-Esser, Line-Amp, 4 band equalizer, Compressor, Limiter and Tape Saturation!

Features

- Simple trim screw on preamp section will set input level.

- Mic preamp with 60dB Virtual Gain, PAD, and Phase Invert. Also, Pre-EQ (Low Shelf/High Shelf) and HPF/LPF.

- De-Esser with Bell and Soft options. It will help you to tame highs!

- 4 Band 81 Style Eq with variable frequency instead limited selectable frequencies. While Low and High bands have bell option, mid bands have Hi-Q option. Also, included Post-Filter same as Pre-Filter.

- Limiter and Compressor based on 2264 but now totally independent and each has its own external side-chain.

- Latest module is Tape Saturation. It will help you add tape saturation and glue overall signal.

- Fixed 2X light oversampling to keep CPU lower

- Touchscreen support

- Resizable interface. Simple "Bottom Right Corner Handle" to resize. 50% to 200%.

*Resizing Tip: When you duplicate plug-in, it will remember current state of GUI size. But if you load new instance, it will be opened at default size. To get rid of this issue, simply follow these steps;

1. Open plug-in for the first time

2. Resize GUI according to your screen resolution or you liking before setting any knobs

3. Save this state as default preset with your DAW

Now, you will be able to load new instances with same size.

(If you want to go default size, simply double click to resize handle.)

You can see "ROUTING" to understand signal-chain.

Hi, this is crashing Ableton Live 9 on my mac with os 10.11.6! Any idea why?

B
Bojan Bojovic · August 16, 2024

Any chance of having this De-Esser standalone? LOADES is different, it works in a different frequency range. This one is simply perfect.

M
Mark · May 25, 2024

Is there any new development on this? It's great no doubt but it would be cool if you had an option to customize the routing (like the SSL Channel 2). Example would be moving the DeEsser after the compressor. Outside of that, it's pretty solid!

A
Adjuster Music · January 25, 2024

What's the fader-looking button in the EQ-81 section next to the Low & Hi shelf eq bands' frequency knob? Does that just turn the shelves into bells? Prolly right?

H
Henry E Thomas · March 17, 2023

Can you please add a channel linking and unlinking function to your compressors? It would make all the difference in the world when you use your compressors on stereo channels. Without this functionality on your compressors, you get too much ducking and too much of a narrowed sound on stereo channels. Please add Channel linking and unlinking function.

First downloaded this plugin a few days ago and am absolutely in LOVE! It has everything I need for tone shaping during the tracking phase. The VST3 format works perfectly on macOS 13.1 (Ventura) on my 'old' 2019 intel iMac running Studio One 6!

When I open this in Cubase (admittedly quite an old version), the UI doesn't load, it's just blank. All the other plugins work though.

Austin Ryan-Mas · November 24, 2022

I love this plugin! I would be so excited if you could control the signal order of the de-esser, EQ, compressor, and limiter.

B
Benjamin Feddersen · October 28, 2022

Dropped this on my vocal bus, a couple quick knob turns and the vocal sounds perfect. De-esser works so darn well, and the mix knob is great. Everything here is great.

S
Squarewaves · October 3, 2022

I love this plugin. I have used it with the de-esser a few times recently on voice-overs for motion design and animation work. It adds some nice and subtle saturation.

F
Frank Busch · June 15, 2022

Absolutely great sounding. The Saturation you can get is so tasty. And... and... and... A wonderful Plugin

J
Junkyard Sam · April 29, 2022

There's a lot of magic in this tool, and part of that magic is the multiple stages of saturation, compression, limiting, and then tape drive on the output. It's rare to have that much in a single tool! Great channel strip.

T
Trevor Meier · February 10, 2022

Would it be possible to add an oversampling option to CHANNEV? I’m getting some aliasing when using non-linear functions of the plugin, such as Tape Drive.

M
Milen Milanov · February 8, 2022

Yes, it's crashing REAPER when closing the plugin window as well.

C
Colin Henderson · February 12, 2022

It's so frustrating because I love using it. It's a pain to have to save my project every time before I close the interface because it's probably going to crash Reaper.

A
Allen Terhune · February 2, 2022

Think highly of Channev - however, it's crashing on Logic Catalina as I work with it, the last time being simply when I close the plugin window. Might be hard to recreate, as it's not often and doesn't happen with any specific action, other than while working with it. Maybe one out of ten times.

Hello Tunca, I have been working with your plugins for a little while now , and it is just amazing ! However the only one that crashes on me is my favorite one, CHANNEV . If you copy-paste-paste-paste-paste the plugin in Reaper it just crashes everytime (and it does not do this with your other plugins that I tested so far) . It also crashes reaper sometimes when I double click on a setting . I tried AU , VST and VST3 and same problem , it crashes. I tried version 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 with Reaper 6.35 up to 6.43 , same problem. It would be a dream come true if you can fix this (and it's the main reason why I subbed to your patreon)

H

There is 1dB increase in volume difference in the Vst3 version vs the vst2 version when you render in Wavelab. Can you please fix this?

F
Fyrebreak Music · August 15, 2021

think I can safely say that this is the greatest sounding plugin I have in my arsenal right now. 1.4 made it much more stable and I’ve used to make literally any sound fit into the mix. the crashes are still annoying and I have to save diligently, so I’m still waitin on that to be fixed lol and yeah it’s replicable, each time the crash happens it’s when I close the GUI. so I have to save each time before I close CHANNEV’s GUI lmfao

F
Fyrebreak Music · August 15, 2021

update: resetting a variable by double-clicking a knob also has a chance to crash CHANNEV

Very powerful eq. Compression can be transparent. It's all good and the layout is fine, no prob. My request would be effect order changeable. Perfect man. Congratulations!

T
TheCleaners 1702 · July 10, 2021

This plugin really shines on a Master Bus for me, or maybe on any bus to be fair, I still have been meaning to try this baby out on some drums. But I would still love to see some of these modules separate though, mainly because I wouldn't use all of these in a single plugin. The tape saturator, the preamp, and the EQ I would definitely use, but the de-esser isn't really my style. Neither are the compressor or limiter. Also I do agree with one of the guys in the comment section claiming that the layout is a bit off-putting. Although I managed to work around it, and may understand why it's designed (mainly to not confuse the preamp for the EQ) it's still an odd design choice. I haven't tried v 1.2 yet, but I did notice that Reaper crashes quite a bit using this plugin, and it really lags in FL. Also... I kinda wished for the tape saturator to be a bit... warmer. Although the harmonics are there, and everything is gain compensated, it kinda... lacks that warmth and fullness that really glues things together. You did it on the SPECOMP which sounds great by the way. But here, it sort of lacks that... warmth and glue. But other than that, it functions and sounds like analog gear, it does its job. But that tape saturator though.... it should've felt a bit warmer on the low end to me. Keep going duud! I really like a lot of your plugins.

r
rpg aleksy · July 9, 2021

This one is going to stay in my collection for sure, I like the way it sounds on different sources from the beginning, even if the EQ layout confused me too at first. Not sure if the oversampling works correctly though, testing both in Reaper and PluginDoctor shows reflection at Nyquist, no matter what modules are de- or activated.

L
Lapar Musik · July 9, 2021

E
Eric Arikan · July 9, 2021

Hey Tunca, awesome work as always. Just played around with it a bit and it sounds fantastic. Thank you so much! Just one point of feedback (and it would be good to know if this is just my experience or if someone else has the same issue): In Logic on an Intel Mac, this plugin as well as the BritX plugins has quite unresponsive knobs. When I adjust something, there is some lag and then it suddenly jumps to where I’ve pulled my cursor. This makes adjustments kind of annoying. Have you heard about this issue before? Any idea how to fix it? Or is this maybe something to do with my setup or settings?

M
Marcel Orgis · July 9, 2021

I get the same problem with my MacBook Pro Intel I7 2018 on Big Sur... The plugin isn´t responsive and also the graphics in logic are lagging when I use it..... On my old Imac with Catalina it works fine! I hope they get a fix.. These are my favourite plugins!

A

M
Marcel Orgis · July 23, 2021

The GUI is much better now!... Sadly it often crashes Logic and I still have the laggy grapghics issue on Big Sur/ Mac Book Pro 2018 I7.

A
AmateurTools DSP · July 8, 2021

pros: it looks clean. cons: very confusing layout. I don't understand why the titles of the modules are "hard panned" to either side of the unit. this forces the eye to travel in order to finish reading the label. and haf the label is right next to the next module, which further complicates the user experience. I don't understand why the pre is LF on the left, and HF to the right, but the EQ right below it is exactly the opposite, going from right to left. I do not know what the de-esser is doing because there is no indication of the frequency or an Ess reject solo function. (inb4 'use your ears') Input drive is fine but I don't understand why there needs to be 2 (or more) equalizers in series in the same channel strip. and finally, some kind of gain compensation function would be interesting later.

J
Johannes Mazur · July 9, 2021

"I don't understand why the pre is LF on the left, and HF to the right, but the EQ right below it is exactly the opposite, going from right to left." Valid point. "I do not know what the de-esser is doing because there is no indication of the frequency or an Ess reject solo function. (inb4 'use your ears')" Well, you can't select the frequency as it is fixed, so what would be the benefit of an indication or a solo function? I just tweak the threshold and listen if it works for me or not. "Input drive is fine but I don't understand why there needs to be 2 (or more) equalizers in series in the same channel strip." Think of a Pultec. The low band of the preamp is slightly different from the EQ low band. You can create a lot more shapes of low end equalisation that way. Download the Bertom EQ Analyzer (free) to see it while turnig the knobs. The preamp high shelf however is essential to get a solid high end from the de-esser. "and finally, some kind of gain compensation function would be interesting later." The drive stages ARE gain compensated. That's more than what you get with commercial plugins. C'mon, this gem is free!

J
Johannes Mazur · July 7, 2021

Tunca said, this one would be a masterpiece. Holy shit, it is! I just tried it on a mix. My verdict: I'd record through that in my inputFX-chain anytime! Some of its magic is revealed when you engage the de-esser. First, push the highs a little bit in the preamp section. then catch them gently with the following de-esser. Perhaps drive the input drive slightly. Let the compressor do a little work with a ratio of 1.5. If needed, add a wee bit of limiting afterwards. Now drive the tape saturation a bit...and I promise, you suddenly get that Neve-ish upfront sound as a reward. It's fantastic! And I just used it on the masterbus, imagine what would happen if you used it across your whole mix! To be honest: If I ever reset my computer in the near future there is not a lot I consider worth re-installing. AO is definitely on that list. We reached a point where you could totally get away with free plugins without missing a thing. If you, dear Tunca, ever release a decent reverb, I'm done. I can lean back, delete all newsletters from PA or similar developers and spend the money on other things.
