Should we follow up with Legend of Korra when we're done with ATLA?

Dont watch it. Season 1 is fine but 2 ruins everything in a way that its not avatar anymore.
What could you possibly be referring to?
Kora would have been so much better if they planned for 4 seasons from the beginning, but even if they did it , as well as any other animated show will never top Avatar
Yes, but Give it time before jumping into it. Like Give it "time" time lol whatever that means lol
Yes. I want to see you watch it. I think you will enjoy it. On the condition that you don't over compare it to ATLA. It's a completely different story in the same universe: naturally, not everyone will like it. I'd give Korra an 8/10. The focus on Korra's and the cast's growth is very human, very relatable, and quite gritty sometimes. So much so that personally I believe that's a large reason why people get put off by the show: many 'mistakes' are made. Divisive decisions. People can get annoyed by it as an audience.
I never even finished watching Korra. That show was weird, it felt familiar but awkwardly distant as well. Most people, myself included, were interested in the show to find out what happened to a lot of the characters that we know and love, but the show runners seemed to want to stay away from addressing the original cast except for a few references here and there. The end result being you're not really getting what you came to the show for, and the show itself? In my opinion Aang's influence was sorely missed. Lots of the conflict in ATLA stems from Aang being a naive vegan monk trying to find the good in everyone and everything. Most of the conflict in Korra stemmed from her just being an egotistical moron. Then there was something that happened, I don't want to drop spoilers, but something happened that made one of the coolest aspects of the Avatar no longer possible, and there were other implications of that decision that annoyed me so much I couldn't continue watching.
That controversial thing was necessary for future storytelling to keep it from becoming a crutch. If you missed S3 Korra then you should revisit it, it was good.
Korra is not nearly as bad as some of these comments make it out to be. 99% of reactors who react to Korra after ATLA really enjoy it. A lot of Korra haters have an ATLA nostalgia boner. Most of Korra's criticism comes from season 2 not being written well which is a justified criticism (certain episodes are still great that season) but seasons 1, 3 and 4 are all around well made, albeit different from ATLA. I know for a fact you guys will like the show. I can't tell you how many times Ive seen reactors get scared off from the show because of dumb comments calling Korra a bad show and when they finally watch it, they are very confused why the nostalgia boner people hate it with such burning passion. Different doesn't equal bad. Not as perfectly written as ATLA doesn't equal bad. It's a good show and every avatar fan should watch it.
Idk about 99% but I can definitely feel some major hostility against ATLA supporters. Yeesh, they just don’t like Korra. Chill.
OMG I beg you please
I think it is best to wait a while and let The Last Airbender marinate for a bit. Going straight into Korra will feel disappointing and foreign, just because you are still so invested in the OG cast, and Korra is pretty different. Waiting a few months is probably the best call imo.
Very wise, The disappointment is probably inevitable but back-to-back would definitely be very jarring.
Don’t listen to the people saying it’s not as good, I mean it’s not however avatar is low-key the best show ever so it not being as good doesn’t mean it’s bad, you’ll still love it so it doesn’t matter plus it’s worth a watch for anyone who really enjoys ATLA
I mean objectively it just isn't as good, granted it is still good but it took me a long time to actually watch it because for one I didn't like the slightly new visual (and probably financially too) cheaper animation style as well as the setting. For two while the technological advancements make sense in terms of 100 years later but to me it lost a lot of that magic that came with the more primitive technology. For example, I loved seeing how bending really drove the world with the north pole and earth kingdom walls/gates, the fire-bending zeppelins, and war balloons and one that really stuck with me was the earth-bending powered trains in Ba-Sing-Se the switch to electricity was honestly the hardest pill for me to swallow. I don't know if anyone else felt that way. That being said it is still worth watching, just not so full of wonder as ATLA.
Yeah I think if you truly love the avatar series waiting a while is best as it's such a change. Either way I'm good with though x
Arcane main story is about the relationship between 2 sisters Only 9 eps
I've got to say I had to wait a while between Avatar and Korra to enjoy the latter. Watched the first episode, hated it, didn't go back for a few years then really loved it. I think it's a complicated switch and I was told by multiple different people to wait and go back to it :)
Korra has some really high highs, and just a couple of low lows. Please do it! I don't think anyone can really say they regret watching Korra, it's still a great show. It just doesn't compare as a whole to how amazing ATLA is. I mean, lightning in a bottle special. Can't repeat that twice lol.
I just wanted Korra to finally become the badass she was sold as. Instead she just seemed to remain in that low point.
Personally I dont think Korra is even close to the same level as Avatar TLA. Prefer a new animated show. Maybe Attack on Titan etc?
I would love to see them watch Attack on Titan, but I don't think it's their thing.
I've loved your reactions to ATLA and think you would really enjoy watching Kora as long as go in with an open mind. There are definitely things I don't like about Kora but overall I loved it and think there are some seasons/story lines that are really great.
I would like more films over another show.
Honestly agree with this one. I'd take two shows and two movies a week over three shows and one movie. More variety if someone isn't interested in one or two of the shows.
YES! Just sit back and let Zhu Lee do the thing! If you like the lore and the world they created you will like it. If you go in expecting just a continuation of last Airbender you might be disappointed.
This is all crazy acronym talk to me, so I'll catch up to y'all in the movie watches.
I voted yes, but idk if really needs to be back-to-back right after the first series.
The Legend Of Korra has 3 of the best villains in the entire franchise. While Aang is more of a Hero’s journey, Korra’s themes are a little more adult-ish
I just wanted Korra to grow as a character. I felt she was the weakest part compared to the side characters.
I think watching another show would be more worthwhile, I do not know if you have already seen Game of Thrones but I would greatly recommend it!
I'm kind of curious about the results of this myself. I only watched ATLA for the first time this past year, and I've seen one season of Korra. My feeling was it started kinda slow, hit its stride, with an underwhelming finale. I also felt like some of the supporting characters were kind of meh/underdeveloped. But overall I'd say I liked it, and definitely plan to check out the other seasons at some point.
SPOILERS You think ending in a murder suicide is underwhelming?
It’s more uneven, but also more ambitious. Certainly worth watching
this show carries the biggest “what if” of all, with how much they were given to do in such a time. i love it, even if i do catch myself saying “what if” a lot
I wish I could downvote the haters. The show has its ups and downs, but considering how badly Nickelodeon screwed with its production, there is NOTHING that renders it unwatchable. It's excellent in many ways and absolutely worth watching. Most people hate the show because 1. Korra is a girl. 2. It's not ATLA. 3. It retcons some lore (THAT even I'm not too jazzed with). 4. It's not ATLA. and 5. Korra loses a lot.
🎯🎯🎯💯💯💯
You should watch it. Imo season 1 is an 8.5/10, Season 2 is a 6.5/10, Season 3 is a 10/10, and Season 4 is 8/10. Season 3 is phenomenal and one of my favs and the aftermath of it reverberating into Season 4 is well executed. You need the self awareness to catch yourself making unfair comparisons. If you compare anything to perfection, you're gonna be disappointed and resentful, like some of the folks in these comments. If you see this as a a brand new story in the same world, you'll have a better time. These are new characters with their own personalities and strengths and flaws. Their journeys are different. They're also teenagers, and teenagers are stubborn and obnoxious at times. I see a lot of reactors and commenters hold the characters to standards that they themselves could never reach in similar circumstances. The world the characters live in has changed and continues to change and become more complex compared to the aang gang.
I’m just saying. Korra gang fumbled the ball when Team Avatar literally started them 1 yard from a touchdown. Plus Red Lotus was my absolute favorite villain squad. ATLA can’t touch that aspect.
Absolutely yes. Just be aware that Nickelodeon screwed over the creatives throughout the entire run of the show and you'll be golden. I love Legend of Korra and at times I think its better than ATLA.
Absolutely not. Legend of Korra I rewatched recently and it was still in my opinion a show that felt spotty with a poor ending. Think of She Hulk. I know that personally I would never wish another person who loves ATLA to be put through LOK.
So you just hate shows with female leads? That’s literally the only thing the two have in common 😂
Hard no, it isn't a good show. If you decide to watch it I would at least leave a couple months in between the two shows. The direct comparisons are impossible and Korra doesn't hold a candle to original series. Not to mention the unwanted over explanation of the universe as a whole which honestly ruins the fun mystery of it all. People say it is more grown up but to that I disagree, it is just more edgy and seemingly only for the sake of being edgy.
This comment hits the nail right on the head. Please for the sake of all the goodness that ATLA brings, don’t watch LOK. They don’t deserve such punishment.
Who is saying no to this?! It is an absolute yes vote for me! I love it just as much as the OG
For real, who is saying no! lol
Korra is better. A lot less sentimental though, so no tears. You gotta watch it!
Saying Korra is better is like saying 2 is more than 1.
Yes, but give it time to rest. It's hard to jump right in and not be disappointed. Season 1 is good. Season 2 ok with 2 stellar episodes. Season 3 is a high water mark for any show. Season 4 is mixed but better than 2
Yes. It's a very different show, and spectacular in its own right.
ABSOLUTELY !!!
I am going to give this the biggest yes I can possibility give. In my opinion, Season 3 of Legend of Korra is the best singular season of the entire franchise. You will guys will thoroughly enjoy Legend of Korra. Watch it immediately after ATLA Is done, like right away lol
I can’t tell if this is a troll or not.
If you don’t, you’re going to be confused when Avatar Studios puts out their sequel series. It’s already in the works. If you want to watch that when it comes out, you have to watch Korra.
Isn’t the sequel about Team Avatar? It wouldn’t really affect the viewing continuity
