Top notch way to end the season , despite all the stories surrounding these Girls (plus James) they are the future and capable to be kids whilst their parents come together in an all too familiar scene of what they have endured throughout their lives with no end in sight.

the subtitles keep calling it Dairy Girls which is a different kind of show but honestly probably also a show I'd watch

That ending was great but I feel like we at least needed to see Erin actually apologize. We know what the implication is here, what she said about Orla is also what she means about Clare, clearly she regretted saying what she said, yadyada, but it feels a bit too easy ^^' what she initially said to Clare was pretty brutal.

"One of the worst atrocities ever witnessed" seems a bit harsh, they're just girls having a fun moment. Really I'm not sure if the tragedy on TV is meant to symbolize the mess on the stage in the final scene but I'm willing to assume that's the joke here. So brutal, so harrowing it even makes Joe reach out to Gerry. It'll be nice if this does affect their relationship going forward, and Erin and Claire's too. (I don't know, I've watched some of the show before but I don't think I got this far.)

*"One of the worst atrocities of the Northern Irish conflict". It's not played as a joke. The show's sort of semi-autobiographical from the writer. It just references how the kids are kind of just getting on with normal teenage stuff while there's a low level civil war going on in the background. Just these random tragedies intrude on life and you never really know when they'll happen, just that they'll keep happening until there is some sort of peace agreement. It's set in the mid to late nineties so the worst of the troubles are over and it's moving towards peace but there were several attacks by groups trying to derail any peace process.

I love that last scene. It's the show's thesis - the girls enjoying themselves and having innocent fun while the parents have to worry about the reality of the Troubles that seemed to be without end. It's such a good juxtaposition, which shows how hard life must have been in Northern Ireland between the 1970s and the late 90s. With such an irregular conflict, it must have been so hard to decide whether to live in fear or live your life, and to make that decision for your children. I also love Erin's narcissism being so fully on show again - disregarding the sick girl because she sees an opportunity to be the editor, dismissing her friends with a gesture only to have to ask them to help, immediately assuming Claire must fancy her. As Sister Michael said, sometimes she is terrifying.

That ending always gets to me. The juxtaposition of these kids just living their lives vs the reality of what's going on around them. And then the grandad putting his hand on Jerry's shoulder, just putting aside his BS for a minute.
