Community 1x9-10 | Watch Along

Funny story about Franz Wickmeyer, the poet famous for the "Should we blame the snow for being stained by the earth?" line we hear quoted in episode 9: He does not exist. Soul Patch Simmons made him up! Such a smooth little debate club trick, attributing your own words to an obscure old fictional poet to give them more weight. And he really, really got away with it - I believe it was about ten years before the most hardcore fans of this show figured it out by trying to look the guy up. I do love Community, and a large part of it is because it does this kind of thing all the time. Every little throwaway line, every prop, every moment has layers to it that can take actual decades to uncover. Pleased to follow this watch-along.

I feel like every single week I go "damn this is when the show gets better and better" cause it's true

Say what you will about Chevy Chase, he sure can fall down hilariously.

I was there for Community from the first episode and enjoyed it, but the debate episode and specifically the way it escalated and then the reversal just blew me away. That was when I knew the show had the juice and it was my ride-or-die.
