I preferred dubs in my old age because I like to eat when I watch. And there's no way you could eat while you're watching sub because you either have to focus on your food or you had to focus on the TV.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for choosing the dub. While I understand that sometimes the translation for some anime shows & movies can get butchered for various reasons that I shall not go into; the voice actors and directors for the most part, do a really good job in conveying the media. Plus, yeah.. it's better watching a reaction channel without reading all the damn time.
I'm shocked there's so many strong dub v sub opinions. I prefer the sub so I'm watching it subbed while the reaction plays. It doesn't effect me how they watch.
I'm glad you guys are doing the dub instead of sub. The dub is so much better. You guys are gonna love this show!
The dub is fantastic! Excited for you guys to watch this. I'm glad you both picked up how wonderful the music is so quickly. Evan Call's music elevates what is already such a heartwarming story into something really special. I bawled my eyes out watching these episodes again and I honestly think the music is what puts me over the edge lol Also just to clarify, the time is specified as how many years its been since the death of Himmel the Hero. Frieren met Fern around 20 years after he died and the events of the second episode specified it was 27 years. So Fern's only really aged about 7 years since we met her.
The dub falls way short of the sub imo. Unlike Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell SAC or Trigin. But, its your show and more power to you :) I am here for the ride
Love the Dub of this show! Especially in a reaction format, since I'm not always watching to read as im usually listening to these while doing something else.
I'm going to have to echo the suggestions for switching over to the Japanese dub of Frieren. In Japan, the voice over performance is supervised by the director/production team to ensure it aligns with what they are going for prior to animation. English dub has their own team and they usually just work with what they are given. Frieren received so much critical acclaim and love with many people highlighting the performances from the Japanese cast. This also includes award nominations.
Fyi, Frieren met Fern 20 years after Himmel passed, then spent ~4 or 5 years translating Heiter's grimoire while also training Fern, Heiter passes and we jump to 26 year's after Himmels passing halfway through episode 2. So we've seen Fern age about ~6 years.
Also Im really excited for this ! I watched this originally in sub but Im excited to rewatch this in dub with yall. the dub is good !
In response to the question in episode 2, Fern is a human and technically while its been 26 years after Himmel died its only been about 4 since she took on Fern as an apprentice .
I really like Frieren's intro music too, but I love the outro.
Excited for this, I'll echo the sub comments as I believe it functions better and is a bit more impactful but it's not the end of the world. Hope you enjoy!
Lol, now I'm just thinking of you two in an anime asthetic. Also yes, the music is indeed baller.
Regardless of anything else I am really excited for you guys to experience Frieren! Now, I'm just gonna put this out there for others, having just scrolled through the comments, but something that I do occasionally with these unedited watchalongs is to just put on the sub for myself. I've done this some of the time for other's reactions of Attack on Titan, although I think I do find the AoT dub is mostly fine even if I'm far from preferring it. Having said that, I personally struggle with Frieren's dub, to the point that I might be embarrassing myself a bit to admit that while I've tried on multiple occasions to watch edited reactions to Frieren's dub, I've never made it more than an episode or 2 at most. Of course it's totally fine, and I certainly don't think you have to watch sub to appreciate the show. I do personally think the sub is quite a bit better and was hoping you guys would watch Frieren in sub, but obviously it's whatever works best for you, I'll just have the sub on for myself.
This is one of the reasons I cancelled my subscription. Whether you watch dubbed or subbed should depend on the strength of the performances, especially in a show like Frieren. Your response to the emotional core of the series, being “it feels like her dog died,” should be a clue that you're missing out on a lot
Go outside of your house. Writing stuff like this over a dub vs sub should be a clue that you've lost touch with reality.
Hell yeah! Cowboy Bebop and Frieren at the same time is awesome! I would strongly suggest watching through the ending credits once or twice and taking note of the lyrics. It helped add a lot of emotional context when I was watching it. Can't wait to see the rest!
I would kill for Mob Psycho one day from you guys
Hell yeah time to cry boys.
Fern is human. The time isn't lapses of 20 years, however they're providing you the passage of time since Himmel's death. Fern was born after Himmels death and later found by Heiter.
Excited to watch this one, frieren is such an amazing show all around. The soundtrack by Evan Call is also just 10/10.
I’m watching regardless because I love you guys and Frieren, but I will say this dub choice is a little unfortunate. It’s not like a superiority thing or anything like that, I just think this anime in particular the dub voices are very bad at conveying tone and the character’s portrayal. Frieren’s dub VA for instance has like this dry/sarcastic monotone voice all the time while the sub VA changes her voice and way of speaking to match with what’s being portrayed on the screen. Just some food for thought from a patron. Your enjoyment and viewing experience is the biggest priority so I support regardless. I hope you guys love it!
It's all preference. IMO this dub is on the better side for anime dubs. I think what's most important is that they adapt character speech in a way that fits the character & feels natural for the setting, and I think they do a pretty good job at that in this show.
def down for the dub, it’s pretty good for frieren and you two should def do whatever you enjoy most. will mention that frieren isn’t like aot where there 100x things happening all at once and characters talking at the same time. subs are MUCH easier to process in this show and obviously the japanese VAs are exceptional. either way, the show is extraordinary.
You know since you two really love the art style and musical composition I don't think it would be much of a leap to recommend some Studio Ghibli films. My favorite one is Kiki's Delivery Service but there are a ton of classics like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Ponyo and more!
we would love to but they are known to be the hardest on copyright stikes that get peoples channels banned so we are hesitant
I misread this and thought they were watching Friends
Frieren: No one told me life was going to be this way...
Hell yeah, I'm here all day for this one. If you really enjoy the music throughout this series, it was almost all composed by Evan Call. He also was the composer for "Violet Evergarden," another show (and movies) I'd love to see you guys experience.
This is the best
y’all i am so excited for this!
I got my tissues and emotional support snacks ready.
anime of sadness doom despair and dread
