Syncing Videos & Important Update

Hey guys 🤍

We’ve seen the comments about the sync being slightly off in the most recent watch alongs, and we want to clarify what’s happening.

We are currently outside of the U.S. for an extended period of time. We weren’t planning to make a big announcement about that for privacy reasons, but it seems relevant now.

After looking into it, it appears that some streaming platforms (HBO in particular) slightly adjust playback speed outside of the U.S. We do not change any playback settings when recording, and we are not using VPNs to alter platform behavior. The speed difference is not intentional and wasn’t something we were aware of until now.

A few viewers who follow European-based creators mentioned they’ve experienced this before. One workaround that has helped some people is using a browser extension called “YouTube Custom Speed” and setting playback to 0.959 speed, which should realign the sync.

Unfortunately, this isn’t something we can manually correct on our end inside the streaming apps.

Again because we are currently recording outside of the U.S., some platforms — especially HBO/Max — may play episodes very slightly faster in certain regions. We do not change playback speed, adjust settings, or alter anything inside the streaming apps.

Here’s what we know so far:

HBO / Max
Most likely to have slight sync differences outside the U.S.

Netflix
No known playback speed issues.

Amazon Prime Video
No known playback speed issues.

Apple TV+
No known playback speed issues.

Crunchyroll
Unlikely, but possible depending on the title.

Hulu
Primarily U.S.-based, so playback may vary outside the U.S.

We appreciate you guys flagging it and being patient while we figure this out 🤍 We promise it’s not intentional, and we’re doing our best to keep everything running smoothly while we’re on the road.

Thank you for sticking with us.
