Part of the reason why I love this channel and why I love being subscribed to this Patreon is that I am so close in age to Arianna, and we grew up in nearly the same area. She perfectly explained, I am paraphrasing, how us millennials were sold on how racism was over. But then we grew up and realized how that was just a lie. We were sold a lie our entire childhood on how great the world was and how we would have great lives if we just studied hard, and then we got blamed for everything that happened to the world since 2008. I was barely out of high school then. I'm going to stop myself from ranting too much.

Arianna with the Salad Fingers reference right at the start lol. I don't get why there are so many movies in the 2000's that wanted Marky Mark to be a serious actor. He failed so hard in every single role. Marky "I'm such a racist that I attacked two Vietnamese men, it was so bad that I was charged with attempted murder but because I'm white I get to still have a life" Mark. He doesn't change his facial expression at all during this entire movie. One of the worst actors of all time. Paul Giamatti on the other hand is my personal favorite actor. Its crazy he is in this, like he has been in other "bad" movies, but he was at least entertaining in those roles, but he is a 10/10 dramatic actor. Lucky the power on the ship lasts forever. During the battle at the end I got flash backs to the first battle in Gangs of New York lol.

Now that I think about it, it's kind of funny that I always grew up thinking this was the original Planet of the Apes and that the Ari was played by Janet Jackson.

Yeah the first movie was a commentary on animal cruelty, while this one is a commentary on racial discrimination.

Okay I am not gonna contest that this is a bad movie but I have to say, you guys really over-thought the message. You really just need to put yourselves in the position of the filmmaker. Imagine you're a mediocre director named Tim Burton, you don't have any experience with making nuanced films, you just want to remake a movie you saw as a kid because you really liked it, but you lack the critical thinking skills to understand why the humans were mute and how the message is supposed to be understated. There was wayyyyyy more analysis in this reaction than this movie deserved, it's a popcorn flick, let it be lol

Also not to criticize your criticism but you also really missed the biggest oversight, which is that if you're going to make it about racism, then they should have 100% had ape-on-ape racism. As if chimps and orangs and gorillas wouldn't have infighting, that's the real missed opportunity.

Couldn't finish this reaction. This movie was just terrible. Feels like it had studio hands all over it.

I don’t know, maybe it’s not the worst thing in the world it’s not the exact same commentary two times in a row. Then again this movie is considered bad for a reason.

I haven't watched this in a long time and it didn't take long to remind me how bad it was. Mark Wahlberg was terrible. His character is dull as shit. How would he not be more curious about where and when and how? And these apes felt too much like apes. The apes are supposed to represent humans but they revert back into primitive ape behavior at the drop of a hat. They don't seem that much more advanced than the humans, except that they have more stuff. And yeah, apparently apes eventually had an Ape Lincoln. Also, I forget Charlton Heston had a cameo in this. He played the old chimp guy that dies in bed.
