~THG Derek November 2022 Update~

Hi guys! I hope you're having a great November so far.

My apologies for skipping last month's update. Things have been very busy on my end, and I could not find the time to put it together in time. I hope this month's mega-update will make up for it.

Progress has been steady on my end. The focus has primarily been on 1st class, with a few minor adjustments made to existing completed areas and 3rd class spaces.

The optimization and tweaking process is nearing completion. There are just a handful of spaces remaining to do. The current bottleneck to completion of V1.5 is mostly up to light baking speed.

A couple of notable changes have been made since my last update.

The third class and crew areas near the bow of the ship got a small tweak. The hatches have been partially opened on several decks, allowing light to flood these areas.

The gym has gotten new windows that have a more realistic level of transparency. This has also brightened up the room significantly.

The chandeliers in the 1st class Grand Staircases have been reworked, and the glass materials are much more realistic, especially the lit version.

A number of levels were reworked to make more sense from an exploration perspective:

- The missing E deck of the 3rd class stairs has been added, allowing free passage between the aft and forward sections of third class.

- The exterior decks of 2nd class have been incorporated into the second class level, including the boat deck, to allow the player to roam freely within second class without loading between levels.

- The forward boat deck area, bridge, wheelhouse, officers quarters, and Marconi wireless room have been incorporated into a new "officers" level, of which it's interiors and exteriors can be seamlessly explored.

I am currently preparing another level to send off to our Q/A team for testing and verification.

I will continue to post progress images as I go along. There should be a few more releasing as early access to patrons soon, and a few early access images should be going public shortly as well.

Thanks everyone for your support!

Jared Owen always does fantastic work. If you look at the doob-le-do below the video, you'll see James Penca listed in the credits. I think it's likely they already know about the video. :)

If it hadn't been explained before, here is the short list of the reasons we did it. A. The demo got too big. Didn't have enough reflection captures to cover the whole ship. There is hard cap of 341 reflection captures. V1.5 will likely have over 500 in total. B. Even if A wasn't true, 1.4 already was big enough that reflection captures weren't adequately covering areas. Lots of reflection seams, leakage from adjacent spaces, causing the "white paint" issue. C. Part of the reason we were able to eliminate level streaming (and the performance issues that came along with level streaming) was by splitting the levels up in the way we did. D. RAM and VRAM usage requirements are significantly lower by splitting up levels the way we did. E. General performance is much better since there is less overhead and less to render. F. The current boundaries were chosen to match classes and crew areas as much as possible. I'm not sure what he means by back though, as Demo401 hasn't had loading screens, except for an initial loading screen to get onto the ship. The way these function is very seamless. You'll interact with connecting doors, and it will load you into the new level on the other side.
