7. This is my interpretation of the story, but please correct me if I missed something. Essentially, the reason why the white haired girls are being killed is because they are trying to prevent the revival of a harvest goddess that was pissed off a long time ago. What I am most confused about is why the goddess allowed herself to be reincarnated in the beginning even though the people killed her each time to grow crops. It’s as if she just forgot what happened.

6. Now the story of the parasites seem to occur much later in the timeline. It appears that the reincarnation of the goddess has devolved into some parasite. It causes them to act without knowing what they are doing. These reincarnations no longer attempt to recreate themselves as a white haired girl. Instead, whoever is infected by the reincarnation now just cannibalizes anything living. We see the infected man eat a horse and its intestines and a person in some cabin. Not only that, it is only zombie-like as the man was walking around as a decaying body. The villagers at the time discovered the man and hunts him down. In the latest story, it appears the reincarnation can now infect rabbits.

5. Another reincarnation involves the strange orphanage/clinic? The bald man appears to be trying to make one of the girls a reincarnation. He is successful in raising one girl to be a reincarnation as her hair starts to grey. He is trying to find a way to stop the reincarnation altogether. That is why we see him trying to replace her eyes (he thought the eyes were a source of infection/reincarnation). Now the lady sees what he is doing and reports him to the authorities. She completes the ritual to throw the girl into the hole once the man is apprehended. It is also interesting to see that this iteration of the reincarnation saps the life of anything around her. The lady carrying her was getting sick/wrinkly and the plants around were dying.

4. Another iteration of reincarnation appears to be the daughter of that apothecary. She was starting to transform and the dad was trying to hide it. However a decree was already in motion to try to hunt her. I am assuming that she is the wolf in those paint style stories. In the end, the adults used their kids to lure her out so they can hunt and kill her. We also learn when they kill a reincarnation the crops die around her.

3. After this bad reincarnation, it looks like the future generations want to avoid this goddess from returning. The goddess now attempts to return by infecting young girls as she can no longer just materialize like before. One of the instances we see of reincarnation is the first story where girls that start to transform or grow white hair are told to just go to the house on the hill so they fall in the hole and die to prevent the revival.

2. However, in one reincarnation it appears she no longer appears to reincarnate as her normal self. Instead she is “scattered”. We see this as several of her essence is in the crops, plants and people. This reincarnation is shown when that monster was chasing the mom and child in the forest. She is trying to recollect her scattered parts.

1. I want to recap everything so far. So, long time ago there was a famine. That was evident by the dry crops and cannibalism that was occurring. Suddenly, a harvest goddess appears and the people that lived near the mountains took advantage of her abilities to grow this unique grain crop. This would occur in many cycles where she would be reincarnated and sacrificed.
