1083 - Voteball Internacional feat. Ryan Grim (10/26/26)

Ryan Grim of Drop Site News joins us for an international tune-up in the ol’ beltway garage. We analyze not just the forthcoming US midterm elections but the upcoming election in Israel and surprising results in Brazil. We also determine once and for all if mocking the Cheesecake Factory is elitism, and check in on a libertarian state senate candidate who might be in a standoff with the cops.

As a Canadian, Cracker Barrel is an important American institution. It's where we go to say we had authentic American cuisine in the same way pretending Olive Garden is a slice of Italy. We go back across the border and say "I had grits for breakfast!". At least we did before the tarrifs when we stopped crossing the border.

Reporting on the ground from Florida: pundits and commentators are really underestimating how pissed people are here. Like MAGA has gone underground basically; you don't want to be assumed to be associated with it in public. I don't know if it'll be enough to get Angie across the finish line, especially as they're doing some serious red-baiting in the last week of the campaign. But, it's at least gonna be a lot closer than everyone outside of Florida assumes.

Americans don't know what a good cheese cake is. The stuff I get from Starbucks is basically a block of sugar. You should try a German cheesecake from a good bakery. It's creamy and soft and most of all - it's mild. And in my case, it contains raisins for little those little spikes of fruity sweetness. Yum.

Worth noting that Cheesecake Factory is the largest scratch kitchen chain in America. Nearly every item on the 250+ item menu—including over 100 sauces, dressings, and entrées—is prepared fresh daily in each individual restaurant's scratch kitchen, with fresh produce being delivered to the restaurant multiple times a week. It’s true - I saw an Instagram reel about it

S
Steve Manjowski · October 27, 2026

Excuse me, but after 6 months of Grimm deepthroating Platner from the back I really dont give a damn what Grimm has to say on US elections. He should stick to the reporting he’s good at. Grimm went on his show and told his viewers “Blackwater and Contellis are different companies” to defend Platner. Incredibly dishonest (considering Grimm absolutely knew that to be a lie considering his expertise/background) and honestly just weird/gross. It didn’t take a genius to see the dozens of contradictions in Platner and Platner apologists/opptunists like Grimm led many of us off a cliff. Platner was Fetterman 2 and those who didn’t see it gotta wake up. An Eddington-esque caricature of an opportunist politician sub the basketball shorts for a fishing boat. I love the pod and appreciate much of Grimm’s (genuinely good) reporting on the middle east and foreign policy matters for the Intercept and Drop Site but I gotta call balls and strikes when I see the boys trippin.

My partner works in immigration here in the states and an organization they work with had to have a discussion recently to figure out a way to get the message out to Brazilians that if they don't want their relatives to be deported they need to stop backing right-wing candidates. The largest percentage of deportations in our state are Brazilians and so many of them just fully believe it won't happen to THEIR family.

Obama's endorsement should help El-Sayed significantly. I would be curious to see some polling on its impact, but if I had to guess it would not surprise me if the Obama endorsement moved the vote 2 or 3 points towards El-Sayed. In a close race that obviously matters. As far as El-Sayed's impact goes on the statewide ballot, he is almost certainly going to drive youth turnout for the Democrats in a way that was never going to happen with Haley Stevens. Having him on the ballot is a net positive for the statewide slate.
