Will saying "not to be nihilistic about it" made me lol. Baby, you've been black pilled for awhile. And while I do agree that El-Sayed distancing himself from Hasan is not good, I don't think that's the same as Mamdani and AOC saying they will back Jefferies. I firmly believe both of them hate Jefferies and are playing the long game strategy and there's probably more going on behind the scenes than we know. And while it would be very gratifying to hear them both rip Jeffries a new ahole publicly, they are actually in politics and need to be strategic if they hope to oust him. Every time I start feeling a bit of hope, I listen to Chapo and most of that feeling goes away 😩😭

I came over here from QAA who also have a great episode explaining this with Mark Sommer. I study and teach history, my partner is American but throughout my life I’ve always kept tabs on America because your country has such a profound influence on global politics. The banality of the incompetence of the Trump administration I find to be the most concerning thing. It feels as though these instances just normalise the rest of the abhorrent side show. I mean if this was Nixon or Reagan or the Bushs’ any one of these almost weekly/daily outbursts or revelations would be front page news. These days it’s just part of the rolling tide of turds launched at us daily while migrant workers are hunted on the streets and Marines and Sailors and Airmen eat literal slop because they’re stuck on an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf and the secretary of war doesn’t know how the massive American logistics system works. I mean I’m not surprised Trump is vision boarding the destruction of Kharg Island and starving Cuba because it is much easier than planning even the dumbest invasion of these countries. No wonder Dick Cheney hated the guy, he doesn’t have the attention span to commit war crimes at scale. Also the NFL-Vice bust is very funny from Scottish/Glaswegian perspective because that guy is also an investor in Glasgow Rangers Football Club. So it was reported on the Scottish News as well.

Al-Sayed didn't apologise for campaigning with Hasan; he apologised for his "hurt people hurt people" comments after the Michigan synagogue attack. Still not a necessary apology, but vastly different to what you're describing in this episode. Maybe in future you boys might want to show some professional pride and get such load-bearing facts correct before starting on a screed about a candidate's 'questionable judgement'. You claim to admire Hasan's work ethic, Felix, and I can tell you this - he would have made the effort to get the details right

D
DrChristmas · September 3, 2026

Look, we need to win Michigan. Neither Hillary Clinton nor Kamala Harris spent time during their campaigns denouncing Hasan Piker, and what happened after that? That's right, they both lost Michigan. Can't argue with that logic!

Just imagine if back in the day, Republicans treated Joe Rogan like the the Dems are treating Hassan? I'm not sure if they could flatter Hassan into being their useful idiot puppet the way Trump did with Joe but it was worth trying. Instead they demanded instant conformity and demonized him for not toeing the party line. It's hilarious how incompetent the Democrats and their aligned media are. Their group think has them so stupid that they can't even try to copy a winning strategy

Did Felix even read/listen to Abdul's statement or did he just read a (wrong) summary of it? Abdul just did an interview where he said that noone should be defined by out of context things that you said a long time ago and that there's a lot of good in what Hasan is saying. I feel like dude's holding the line pretty well and is not grovelling like Felix and David seem to believe he is.

Felix is so right about how you could do anything in a small town in the 17-1800. I once read that during the napoleonic wars a French ship sunk off the coast of England and the only survivor was a monkey dressed in a French officers uniform. The hayseed townsfolk tried to interrogate the monkey and when he didnt answer their questions, they hung him for being a spy.

DSA and anti zionist organizations need to select more Black candidates that will staunchly hold to the party values. It's clear by now that there is a lot being left on the table with older Black voters. So if electoralism will be a field of contest you have to use all the weapons you have to win there. No one thing is a guarantee, but many small things in conjunction help.

I think Al-Sayed wins for the same reason Mamdani did. He’s focusing on how everything’s too expensive. The focus on Israel and “antisemitism” didn’t move voters in NYC and I doubt will move them in Michigan. Supporting Israel on the other hand drives away voters in droves, see Harris 2024.

K
Kinetics Video · September 1, 2026

I think it's a toss up that will go one way or the other for reasons that have nothing to do with any of this noise

M
Matelda · September 1, 2026

I love you but you're wildly exaggerating El-Sayed's capitulation. He didn't denounce Hasan, he didn't ask for mercy for anything to do with Hasan, he issued a broad statement against threats and he went to a MI Jewish community to apologize for his own (questionable, but whatever) insensitivity after a synagogue attack. He frames this as a plea for solidarity between people of minority faiths such as himself. He just went on the Breakfast Club and defended Hasan. And he said, to answer a Michigan Jewish voter's question, that he wouldn't fund the Iron Dome even to "protect" her kids on vacation, he isn't backing down from that. NOBODY in Michigan wants him to say "There might be something wrong with Jewish people." I hate to be like this, but you really are in a crazy bubble if you think that sounds like a better idea. He is the closest thing we've had to a Democrat fighting bad faith exactly the way you're asking for. That hasn't really changed, so please wait until he loses or really does betray the cause to get so nihilistic. This is a possible hinge point. It's not over. Which side are you on?

Don’t worry the rich Brooklyn podcasters who put out mid vaguely left content are just defending another rich podcaster/streamer whose building a cult of personality from disaffected mostly white college grads who have 20k+ student debt and have to work in warehouses and are mad about it. I’m not even some Abdul lover. He’s probably the best of the best as far as electoralism but people need to think about where this type of criticism is coming from, from people who get to put out six hour long shows on fucking video gaming. The whole Piker saga is a great illustration of the way that political propaganda and character assassination works in the U.S. You can see these attacks are taking on a toll on him, which is part of the entire purpose of these attacks. Very sleazy stuff. Some of it definitely looks like it crosses a line into defamation as well. However, the fundamental issue is the absolutely insane shit that the state of Israel does on a daily basis. If supporters of Israel don't get a handle on that problem -- and I am doubtful they will be able to, because it is a "lunatic society" -- they are just dealing with symptoms by policing the narrative in the U.S. As far as El-Sayed goes, out of all of the Obama-imitators he is the one who goes hardest. Piker is his "reverend Wright". His rhetorical style is the closest in spirit and vibes. I think he is genuinely sincere about some issues -- single-payer, military funding for Israel -- but he reminds me a lot of Obama in the worst ways. e.g.. one big early test of Obama from a policy perspective was telecom immunity, related to mass surveillance post 9/11. Obama had campaigned for reversal of Bush era excesses, he won the party nomination, but in the summer of 2008 at a point where he was positioned to win the general election, he still opted to give telecom companies legal liability on an issue of concern to the left. If you're in Michigan you still gotta vote El-Sayed, but do it with your eyes open. The problems are structural, not strictly about individuals. The kind of politicians who are able to resist the pressure and stay true, are incredibly rare ones, and they are going to tend to be people who come out of political movements and have demonstrated a willingness in previous elected offices to resist pressure.

And to think he spent so much time centering antisemitism this past few years, you'd think he'd be their ideal model. But nope. It's hard to feel sympathetic. All this energy and talent from the the American left being dumped into the project of pushing a party that exists specifically to prevent the left from gaining power. I'm replying to this comment because it's the #1 most liked & at the top of the comment section to defend Abdul Thought. He has not capitulated the way they are saying. Maybe he will, but he's doing a pretty good job and reports of him capitulating have been greatly exaggerated. Hold the line please & stay on Earth. We don't want him to change tactics to say "maybe Jews are bad by-your-logic," that is fucking crazy.
