Mystery Of The Disappearing Man - Belgrade, Montana
This week, in Belgrade, Montana, a man disappears, seemingly into thin air, but a friend of his says he doesn't want to be found. This friend says the man ran away to start a new life, with a blonde, in a small red car. This is a major surprise to the missing man's wife, who doesn't belive the disappearing story, for a second. Will some lies, and a piece of brain found in a curtain tell a different story???
Along the way, we find out that you need to have a major television deal to afford to live in a lot of Montana, that you never want to be a "forest bride", and that people normally don't have chunks of brain in their curtains!!

Did he say curtain tissue?
Nailed the pronunciation of the Purkinje!
I said this ain’t no public fish fry! Also James still having to say “Zamazing” pleases me.

Wood forest bride. Get ‘er to the campsite she’s yours, hilarious. Montana, ‘Merika.
Prisoner Dodge Ball is the second most New York game I’ve ever fucking heard of, second only to stick ball. Count on NYC Italian kids to come up with a game that includes a prison stint. 😂
1:23:15 reminds me of a quote from Elastigirl talking about Mr. Incredible in The Incredibles lmao "Either he's in trouble, or he's going to be."
One time I found a baby possum in my kitchen drawer once. I can’t even express exactly just how much it’s scared the shit out of me, while I was looking for a god damn zester. but it was cute. We found their Mama outside trying to get under the house the next night, so they were reunited, oddly enough.
Miatas are rear wheel drive, for the record. 😂
Whats up Turkeys🦃? Jealousy is a mother fucker. Pick up a hobby like painting 🖼️if you feel yourself being pulled down the jealousy hole. 🖕🏾🧊
Sigh.....Always a forest bridesmaid, never a forest bride
James, I adore you, but you need to come to Buffalo in the winter. You'll change your opinion real quick 😆 I have spent several Christmas holidays snowed into my apartment because I literally can't see my car under the snow
We hosted a lasagna party. Everyone brought their own recipe and winner won a certificate and a bottle of booze. Way more fun than a pot luck. Bonus Episode suggestion: Wardens/Guards who behave badly. Always fascinating to stumble upon those stories. I bet there's some good ones out there.
I have a funny story about a friend who lost a snake and a mouse in her car.
I’m willing to bet that the band, The Waiting, is a Tom Petty cover band

I love the S2000... 6 speeds, baby!! Why not 🤷
As a Montanan, I always enjoy your roasts. I think my favorite was the Butte episode that took place between drunk miners in the 60's. Or, IDK, the one in Ft. Benton where a wife trolled and killed her husband was wild, too. Weird shit happens out here. I remember the Kari Swenson case, I was a little kid then, and I think there was a TV movie made about it. I'm just waiting for you guys to do a case close to home, there are several to choose from! (I'm from the Unabomber town...) I love how you guys really capture the small town culture, your observations are spot on and hilarious. Thanks for the shout out about our winters, we're weirdly proud of our suffering in that regard. I will just keep my pedantic observations about the pronunciation of Helena and the wolf population in MT in 1990 to myself, as I know you and everyone else here don't care. 🤣🤣🤣
I meant to say also, as an aside, the guy who was being guided on a hunting trip by the two psychos in the Kari Swenson case probably waited until the trip was over because he was no doubt in the back country/wilderness areas with them, on foot or horseback, and to leave after being told that would be very suspicious and they, being the experienced wooden and guides, would have definitely been able to catch/stop him. He probably waited out of concern for his own safety.
Talking about a rat in your car, yes I have but only because my 13 year old niece let it escape out of the cage it was in. It took a week to get that fucking thing out of my car!
Omg I can’t even imagine the fucking stink it had to get between the pee and shit! 🤢
Love these guys! Sarah Patton, 72 here, not a gray hair! But wishing I did!
Want some of mine? I’ve got plenty! 😆
And I am officially using “what is this a public fish fry!???”
Time to wrap myself in the warm embrace of another shithouse rat crazy murder.
Literally just finished a book called “Gray After Dark”. Not until just right now while listening to this episode did I realize that it was based on this true story about the mountain men abducting an Olympic level athlete. That is insane!
Yes! I came to the comments to say this!
Lol I played that version of dodgeball in elementary school, but we called it wall ball (because you were standing up against the opposite wall while you were out) rather than prisoner dodgeball 🤣
Can we get lasanga party merch?!
I live in NE Montana and we did indeed get snow 2 days ago, and it’s so damn cold here. -30 and-40 degrees in Winter. It’s about 150° difference between seasons. We do have a lot of celebrities living in our state but that’s usually more in the western half. They are right tho, it’s exploding over there which really sucks for a lot of obvious reasons.
Laughing at how jimmie assumes you get land outside of Bozeman for 500k hahaha also only people are moving to the west side of the state. That's why normal people try to avoid that side (corner actually). Billionaires playground. And i assume the normal residents of this area are similar to the people from the outskirts of Denver lol
I wonder if Savvy is the same band that played in Ft. Worth back in the 80’s with Ricky Lynn Gregg.
How do you know you’re old? You quote the plot of a Matlock episode but can’t remember where it’s from. For the record me knowing the episode James was talking about probably means I’m even older and own the DVDs rather than catching an episode 30 years ago on a rerun.
I’ve heard that mountain man story before. It’s definitely funnier when James and Jimmie tell it. 😆
Fairbanks, Alaska had a country bar called the silver spur back in the day.
Shirley, Ashley, Carol, Francis, Cary, Alison—we’re all men’s names originally
Syracuse has gotten close to ten feet of snow in a season.
Buffalo came to my mind, I think they average around 8ft each year.
Name a place on the East Coast that gets tons of snow? How about Syracuse with 117.3 inches per year, average (that's 9.75 feet). Or Buffalo, over 92 inches.
Buffalo is Great Lakes, practically midwestern, more than East Coast. Truly coastal places that have the sea impacting their weather year round just don’t get as cold. I feel like James is more referring to that type of “coastal.”
Where there's muck there's brass
...who says I have no brain matter in my camper?!! That's where I keep it all ...
They made that kidnapping mountain story into one on the best TV movies of the 80’s called The kidnapping of Kari Swensen starring Tracy Pollan who is married to Michael J Fox. It was awesome I’ve seen it a bunch.🙃
That was a good movie. I had forgotten that it was Tracy.
The earth took Buzz made me laugh so hard my tampon flew out
😳 yikes!
Born in 92 and here to confirm the gray hair and arthritis. Just trying to fall asleep and called out, damn.
91’ here and a victim of RA 😭🤣
James is right! Biathlon is skiing and shooting. Keri Swenson tells her story on 30 for 30. They shot her and left her for dead but her biathlon training helped her survive.
I was aware of her story when it happened. I love running trails and her story has lived rent free in my head for over 40 years. Why women will always choose the bear 🐻
In the movie "Short Cuts", While on a fishing trip in the wilderness, the three fishermen (Huey Lewis, Fred Ward and Buck Owens) discover the corpse of a young woman floating in the water. Instead of immediately stopping their trip to report the death, they tie the body to a rock so it won't float away and continue fishing for the rest of the weekend and plan to report it on the way home.
That's an Australian story! Paul Kelly wrote the song Everything's Turning to White & then they made the movie Jindabyne (awesome fishing 🎣) about this .. .. Edit - based on a Raymond Carver story, my mistake, he's American.
Being a forensic files nut this episode is one of my favorites
That is a great show!
