Fine Line Of Lunacy - Wenham, Massachusetts

This week, in Wenham, Massachusetts, a wealthy doctor and his wife seem to have the perfect life, until deep secrets start to emerge, leading to one of them being brutally murdered, and the other becoming an absolute public sideshow. Affairs, strange dressing habits, and "parading around naked" is just some of the strange behavior, leading up to the horrific murder. But the behavior after the murder is just as odd, and even scary!!

Along the way, we find out that this area will certainly judge your clam chowder, that being a huge success doesn't make you immune from losing your mind, and that punching your brother in law while naked is serious trash behavior!!

Woo Hoo! Jimmie got the math right. James said a defense psychologist (a) charged $300/hr, (b) billed for 100 hrs, and (c) had been paid $7,000. Without the slightest hesitation, Jimmie accurately said the Dr. was still owed $23,000. I’m happy for Jimmie, although I always look forward to Jimmie doing math with hilariously inaccurate results. I also look forward to James working in Goodfellas references, especially ones about someone who “hasn’t been able to digest a decent meal in six weeks.”

There more than 1 type of BPD. I have it and it’s true, you seek out disfunction and start drama. Luckily after a few years of being diagnosed I was able to control myself and identify that it’s is the BPD not reality. BPD if from experiencing severe childhood trauma. So of course he has BPD.

L
Lorne · October 26, 2026

the thing is, if you can't control your outbursts, it doesn't only ever exclusively meet certain people. that's not how it works.

L
Lorne · October 26, 2026

me knowing that I have a longer official diagnosis list: 😬 luckily only official overlaps are med and OCD. and a lot of trauma.

K
Kimberly Keller · October 26, 2026

Never in my 15 years of practice have I seen an adult diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive Disorder or more than one personality disorder. Narcissism and Borderline are similar, but seems to me listing both was just the expert's attempt to make the diagnosis list as long as possible

Brian Fondurulia · October 23, 2026

Ya…. Listen to the experts! That’s why there’s so many lawsuits against medications and different things 10-20Y after it was a miracle drug that has no side effects.

As a trans person, I really have to commend you guys on navigating cases involving gender nonconforming people with more respect and tact than a lot of other comedians who talk about that stuff (minus the murder, obviously). It's very refreshing to hear, especially with society at large painting a target on our backs nowadays.

L
Lori Ditchfield · October 22, 2026

I'm calling bullshit on the insane shit. He was able to manage college and medical school, then had a whole hospital staff thinking he was a "great guy" so he knows how to act in public. Dude is absolutely fucked up though.

L
Lori Ditchfield · October 22, 2026

Wenhan has a polo club, very posh. You'll miss the place if you blink too long. I stayed there for a few months as a teen, and stood out like a fucking sore thumb.

The case James referenced was on HBO called A Killer Story and it was incredibly infuriating. I don’t think she did it!!!

I
It Ain't Easy Being Eldritch · October 21, 2026

OMFG YOU GUYS I JUST GOT SO EXCITED!!!! This story is CHOCK FULL of local locations that I know very well! Around the hour and ten minute mark, James mentions that the Sharp family moved to West Gloucester which is part of my hometown!!!! It's so exciting when the story being told is so close to home. The house the family moved to is basically a stone's throw from my Aunt's house! It's also just exciting to hear James say the names of all these local places. Lol 😁😅

"Why does it matter defense experts get paid?" Because of the implication that people can be bought to say anything and it's always conveniently helpful to the defendant. Meanwhile the prosecution experts often times reach their conclusions without the defendant specifically in mind, but the defendant had the matching identifiers AND their results can be replicated and quantified.

I had a surgeon who reconstructed my shoulder who name was Dr Richard Large!

K
Kyle P · October 19, 2026

Oh no you didn’t! 😂 Hating on Forrest Gump. How Dare you sir

S
Scott Maton · October 19, 2026

Lol.... James says "and he's not even trans, he just likes wearing women's clothing" 😂😂 the mental gymnastics liberals will jump through not to offend the trans community. Pretty sure that taking female hormones and dressing like a woman makes someone trans.

T
TaphWithNoLastName · October 23, 2026

Speaking as a trans person, sometimes someone will repress their identity to the point where they'll seek out the presentation but claim it as irony or some other excuse. Richard's introduction to cross-dressing being so closely tied to his childhood trauma, from my experience and others' that I've heard, is very much an outlier compared to the average trans person. There's also no mention of him going by a different name or different pronouns, though that could tie into repression as well

The case you mentioned w Denver - they did this on Netflix!

Do you think he beat his wife and daughter because he was jealous of them for being females? Like he deeply wanted to be one so bad he despised them for it?

I worked at the Dunkin Donuts on Frank Lloyd Wright and Via Linda in Scottsdale in 2010 and, yes, they will just hand out unsellable donuts. We were allowed to take leftovers home at closing and being a bring college kid at the time, that was sustenance

B
Bethany Hamilton · October 17, 2026

James made the most casual Howdy Doody reference, and for some reason it is absolutely hilarious to me 😂

N
Natey Bag o Donuts · October 16, 2026

So glad my last name is not spelled with a “e.” I am one of the poor Sharps, we could not afford the extra letter.

S
Susan Nelson · October 16, 2026

While I agree with James that we need to take seriously what experts have to say, especially with regard to things that can easily be vetted and demonstrated with evidence. With regard to psychology, not all psychologists are created equal. Especially with regard to Dr. Ablow who is not someone I would consider an unimpeachable expert. He is a conspiracy promoter and an anti-same sex marriage stating that gay parenting is tantamount to child sexual abuse. There’s more disqualifying statements and behavior. Whatever the defense paid for his testimony, it was too much. Clearly the jury agrees.

D
Dr. Alfred Moore Jr. · October 16, 2026

When James asked Jimmie, "Well did you read it?". Us regular listeners already knew the answer 😂🤣😂🤣😂

J
Joe B · October 27, 2026

And the way James asked the question, he was gently mocking Jimmie. Ah, the way truly great male friends poke fun at each other.

How is Karen selfless when she allowed her children to witness her being abused, and them being abused by their father for money. That's the definition of selfish. Allowing your children to be abused for money is not selfless.

N
Natalie Bland · October 18, 2026

The only source that said she was selfless was a book looking to profit off her death, though.

K
Katie Gappmayer · October 15, 2026

Jimmie loves women's products that made my day. He just said it so casually. Haha my husband steals my lotion and deodorant never my socks though he hates those

D

Jimmy: "how'm ever" I'm using that.

M

Google 'who is Clark Rockefeller ' and you'll understand the reference. It would be a good 3 hour episode.

J
Jen B. · October 15, 2026

I love it when you guys get to sing the song!

D
Duke of New York · October 15, 2026

Pretty sure the Clark Rockefeller thing was a reference to Christian Gerhartsreiter who was a notorious fraudster

J
Jebediah Marquis Wu · October 15, 2026

Shout out to James. He’s got a real good grasp of grammar and spelling and we know he was a fuck-off student. But the volume that he’s read and amount of audiobooks he’s listened to has given him the skills to see the nuances of language. When you’ve seen/heard words used in different ways so many times, it teaches you in a way that you can’t achieve by studying. I wish I forced my kids to read more when they were younger. The only way is to log the hours. Also, he’ll deny it, but he’s a bright guy and I think he likes the art of language. Wish I could see you guys when your in SJ doing you’re show this weekend I wish I were their seeing there show. Don’t put on a fakayde, be you’re self.

J
Joe B · October 27, 2026

A modern day Abe Lincoln — intelligent, articulate, and obviously someone who reads a lot. Some of the most well educated people I know are completely detached from reality. That’s not our James.

D
Débora Mereles · October 15, 2026

Somehow this episode really got to me. My stomach started hurting while describing the daughter's ordeal. All kinds of emotions in me. Maybe because I have a daughter the same age. Good job, great episode

Most controversial thing jimmie has ever said....womens deodorant is WAY FUCKING WORSE than men's 😂 ive been wearing men's deodorant for years because women's literally doesnt work. And its more expensive lol and ive only bought men's socks for so long cause womens are so SO THIN lol everything for women is so thin and doesnt fit right. I also only wear men's jeans for work. Womens jeans have too much elastic and have no pockets. They last like 3 months. (I've bought all different price ranges, my nice jeans are $150 womens Kimes)

J
Jenna Augustine Atwater · October 15, 2026

I've always had good luck with Secret, but that may only be because I can't find men's deodorant specifically for black clothes, which is all I own lol. I will wear men's socks forever!

S
Stacy Baker · October 15, 2026

Amelia Island is just the beach you need, it isn’t touristy… as long as you don’t go south because then you will end up in Jax 🤣 lots of sharks teeth here too super cool! It’s mainly retired people but at least it’s not crazy busy! Oh and Clayton Kershaw and John Grisham have homes here too! You guys should do an episode of the murder that happened here in 2018. The murderer is an absolute lunatic (they all are but she hits the top of the bar 😂) the perp’s name is Kimberly Kessler and the victim was Joleen Cummings. I hope you all have the best day!

J
Jessica Schafer · October 15, 2026

Here's how to make sure your sons don't become rapists...make sure they see women as HUMANS. How you as a man talk about women and how you treat the women in your life really effect the children in your home. (And I know the guys know this they've talked about it before)

Or yall could just treat your kids with kindness, regardless of gender lol

J
Jenna Augustine Atwater · October 15, 2026

Fully agree. I have to admit, I'm harder on my son than my daughters, but it's because he's overly hyper and gigantic, so he tends to do more damage when he's riled up. A lot of it can be situational, I guess, but overall you are fully correct.

Teach your sons HOW to respect ALL life. And CONSENT. And women don't view sex as a competition. That aspect is partly what "toxic masculinity" is about.

S

Absolutely this! Its not like its rocket science and yet it seems so difficult 🙄
