Pattern and Instructions: The Charm Knot Bag

The Charm Knot Bag is our playful nod to traditional Japanese knot bags and features an elegant design with a clever twist (literally).

Inspired by a centuries-old style, one handle slips through the other to create a soft, secure closure. We've added gussets to the bottom of the bag to hold all your goodies. This pattern is a very simple sew, but it covers the basics of bag design (with a ton of references, if you want to dive deeper).

Available in two sizes, you can sew your bag as a chic cocktail purse for evenings out or as a small everyday tote for errands and essentials. Depending on your fabric choice, it can lean polished and refined in silk or brocade, or casual and sturdy in cotton or canvas.

While this bag is simplicity itself, a small scarf or brooch attached to the handle can really elevate the look. I can’t wait to see what you make!

xoxo,
Gertie

No way!! Haha I just self patterned and made a couple of these and they turned out a little wonky size-wise! I made one for me as a little purse, and one out of a vintage table cloth as a gift bag! Such a fun thing to make and use up scraps and make something that matches one’s outfit!

I could actually use this to make a little snack bag for conventions. Thank You 🫶

Love how simple but sophisticated this design is, with no need for additional bag-making materials. Added to my scrap buster list! It will be so useful with ample room for storing all kinds of things.

I have made so many knot bags! I like that this one has a box bottom and longer handle. They make great lunch bags.

What amazing timing for this I am about to make one for my work essentials and attach to my laptop bag!! No more digging around for keys, travel card or my sunglasses when they slip to the bottom of my bag! I simply must have one in every possible hue 💙

Not at all what I could have guessed (and honestly didnt even have a guess) but I really like this. . . And could see using the right hard-wearing fabric to make a nifty lunch bag for my blue-collar husband who only seems to use plastic shopping bags for that (those are for the litter boxes lol)
