Hint for Tomorrow's Release!
I am so very excited to share tomorrow's pattern with you! The garment is simple, but the statement it makes is not. There are multiple variations, at least one of which will eat up yardage like crazy.
It pays homage to an incredibly influential designer, one whose work you may not be familiar with. It's also a garment that inspired a lot of discussion in the studio, and I can't wait to hear your take on it.
Put your guesses into the comments, and then come check back tomorrow to see if you were close.
xoxo,
Gertie

https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/159388 I'm going to hope for a ballgown as it can take a lot of fabric or can be made shorter or slimmer to use less fabric.
I'm guessing Madeline Vionnet, because bias takes more fabric!
As many others, Maybe Hanae Mori. And the kimono/kaftan version could omit the ruffles for less fabric? And the full ruffle one is the one who uses alot? Exciting!
What about these designs fron Hanae Mori as someone suggested it? Can’t need more yardage than these https://artsandculture.google.com/story/hanae-mori-haute-couture-hanae-mori-the-work-and-style-shimane-prefectural-iwami-art-museum/lwVBh-wnD6eSJQ?hl=en
Hmm Sherlock Homes Mode engaged Influential Designer whose work we won’t be familiar with - so that rules out Schiaparelli I think the butterfly might be a decoy. Mischievous Gertie! Or maybe it’s a reference to Puccini’s Madame Butterfly I agree with Kimono crowd - and Hanae Mori!
All I can say is: exciting 🫣
Hanae More - simple silhouette but large flowing sleeves would meet lots of yardage?
Some of her designs have these gorgeous flowing capes, too - either one would be lovely!
Im really now hoping, like so many, for a Hanae Mori inspired piece. Its the 1st here in the down under timezones......so I'll be excited tomorrow. And maybe one more chance to go nab a bargain at the Bali fabric area.
I'm guessing it's a duster jacket!
A cocoon jacket would be fabulous?
My imagination goes to a Carmen Miranda style dress with optional pop over flamboyant skirt that would use up lots of fabric. Think of the sleeve options it could have!!
I have no idea, but I did google everyone’s guesses. I’m excited either way!
I'm always here for the comments! The insight of the Charm Community is amazing!
I’m seconding (thirding?) Hanae Mori, based on a reverse Google image search of the hint image
Ohhhh I think you're on to something there!
Hey I am clueless on this one.
Hawaiian mumu! 😄🌺
Are we getting a butt cape dress?😂🦋
Living for a good butt cape!
Charles James butterfly dress! *crosses fingers*
I just looked it up and that would definitely explain the “one version would require tons of yardage” part of the clue. That is an incredible dress! Absolutely not casual lol
Vera Neumann?
Hanae Mori?
I think you’re on the money - Madame Butterfly!!!
Claire McCardell. Popover dress.
I’d love to make one of these!
Hanae Mori. So I’m guessing something flowy.
That’s a good one! I’ve never looked into her designs, so thanks for mentioning her. Her work is amazing!
I’m thinking something Charles James, he has a few butterfly references
Adrian?
Kimono
Agree!
Oh a kimono perhaps?
Schiaparelli butterfly dress!
Omg omg omg is it the freaking butterfly dress?!?!?
Kimono
I'm southern. Butterfly= Dolly.
I think it’s going to be an homage to Dolly’s designer, Lucy Adams, but we already got a jumpsuit so I have no idea what the design would be.
