"……Hm!?"
Just as I was coming over the forest, I noticed something shine for just a moment farther west, deeper in.
It was at a speed that neither 【Fairy's Eye】 nor the snakes' eyes could react to, but…… there's no way there'd be anything in a forest like this that gives off that kind of light, and it might be Zighart.
"I'm curious why he ended up coming this far west, but…… let's go check it out for now."
To be as inconspicuous as possible…… that's the idea, and since Zighart's moving alone, maybe he's doing something like burning through for just an instant with some technique I don't know.
Maybe I'll try approaching from above so I'm not in the way.
◇
"…………Over there!"
While I was flying above, just like before, something gave off a strong light for only an instant.
I hurriedly descended into the forest before I lost sight of it, and moved through the forest while searching for Zighart's presence.
"Seems like he's hiding his presence well, thoughー……?"
With 【Fairy's Eye】, I might not be able to find him, but the snakes should be able to catch him.
While I was moving carefully so I wouldn't get hit by friendly fire, all at once the snakes turned their heads toward the back left.
When I flew toward that direction, smoothly slipping between the trees, from a tree a little ways away…… and, somehow, from a high position, a voice said "Sera".
I turned toward it, but Zighart wasn't there.
Where……? I happened to look up.
"Huh? ……Wait, you were in a place like that?"
There was Zighart, standing on a branch growing high up in the tree.
Leaves were stuck here and there on his clothes, and it looked like he'd been moving along the tree branches.
There were all sorts of things I wanted to ask too, so for now I flew over to the branch where Zighart was standing.
"Are you fighting from up in the tree?"
"I only come down for the moment I finish them off. It's the best way to avoid trouble."
Zighart said that and pointed at a tree several meters away.
A thick branch extended toward here, and he probably intended to jump over to it.
When I moved away so I wouldn't get in the way, I could see magical power gather at Zighart's feet for just an instant.
Maybe he'd used wind magic, as the leaves shook slightly, but he seemed to be controlling it well and that was all.
And then, without even making a pop sound, he flew over.
He was much better than when he'd jumped over the river the other day, and I wondered if he'd practiced or something, but at the place he jumped to, Zighart was beckoning me to come over.
I left the unimportant stuff for later and flew over to Zighart too.
"Did you fly through the forest all the way here?"
"Huh? Ah……yeah, yeah. I thought I'd look for Zighart for now."
"I see. Well……to avoid friendly fire, it's better if I can see you. All right……I'll explain the situation."
Saying that, Zighart began to talk about the route he'd moved along and how the monsters were moving.
"There was a sign of a big pack moving deeper on this side. It's probably the one you found. Maybe it's avoiding the pack that was fighting over the boss position near the northern base, but it was sending in small fry to watch the other side."
"So it's not like they're invading the other side or anything like that?"
"From what I've seen, there's no sign of that. But it's probably still newly formed, and its chain of command isn't functioning well. There are also some that got separated from the pack and are moving around strangely on their own. I've been going around finishing those off."
"……We took down one pack of young goblins too, but maybe it was a monster that'd gotten separated."
Since it'd been sticking with a big pack, it's possible it didn't have any combat experience.
"So you guys ran into one too. You can tell by how they move, right? If those kinds of things carelessly come out of the forest, it'd be a problem, so I've been going around cleaning them up. If possible, I'd like you to help too, but……can you do it?"
"Of course. I should search from above, right?"
"Yeah. I'll decide whether to finish them off or not. If you find one, let me know."
