Zighart's squad was even more popular than expected, so leaving the base got delayed a bit, but somehow we managed to depart without anyone getting hurt in the commotion.
As expected, there were hardly any people after Zighart at the base, and thanks to them not thinking they'd follow along when we departed... once we actually left the base, we were able to enter the forest without worrying about our surroundings.
Everyone was mounted, so we couldn't make use of the precious mobility, but... that was why I was here.
"Okay... I'll go ahead. For now, we're moving along the river, right?"
"Yeah. For us, it's easier to move that way. Until we get deep into the forest, I want to avoid battle as much as possible. I'm counting on you."
"Got it. See ya."
I activated 【Prayer】 on everyone, then left the squad and flew deep into the forest.

With Zighart and the others a little way behind me, I was heading west through the northern forest, avoiding monsters and aiming for the river.
Occasionally beasts came out onto the path, but once they noticed the squad members behind us, they immediately ran off somewhere.
Monsters... I couldn't see any.
"I just passed through this area a little while ago... maybe that's why they left this spot?"
There wasn't any sign of something large, and if they were small, they might at least leave the spot if they sensed my figure or presence.
"Everyone's following along, huh."
When I glanced back once to check the squad, they were following with Zighart at the head, keeping about a hundred meters of distance.
They weren't fighting over there either, and it didn't seem like I was missing anything.
"They're clearing a path on their own, and it looks like we can go straight like this. It's not much trouble, but I'd rather avoid winding through the forest if possible, so good, good."
If it were those guys, they'd be able to regroup right away even if they lost sight of me, but if there weren't any hiccups, that was definitely better.
I kept moving while occasionally looking back and checking the distance.

Well, the movement through the forest went smoothly, and for now I was able to get out of the forest and reach the river.
Zighart and the others were following right behind without getting separated, so we'd be regrouping soon.
The problem was.
"Sera, what's wrong? Standing around in a place like that..."
Zighart, having caught up, called out from inside the forest.
He was probably wary because I was stopped right after coming out of the forest.
"Yeah... well, everyone can come out here. It's not like it's dangerous or anything."
"There's certainly no sign of powerful monsters. Let's go."
Nodding at my words, Zighart called out to the squad members and came out of the forest.
"...I remember this place. Is this where we dealt with the corpses?"
"Yeah, yeah. A little farther upstream is that collapsed place. We passed through it on the way here too, but there weren't any corpses or dirt and sand left."
"The big rocks are smashed, and dirt would just wash away. So, what were you worried about? Those footprints there?"
Even I noticed them, so of course Zighart and the others had noticed the footprints on the bank.
They were coming out of the forest while carefully avoiding stepping on the footprints.
"That's not something you need to worry about, but... over there."
I pointed into the forest on the opposite bank.
"...Small ones, huh. Did they come out to scout, or were they there from the start... which is it?"
"Which one, I wonder? When I came, I was flying around this area, and they were there then too. If they're the same ones, there might be a pack giving them orders."
"From the looks of it, there aren't any powerful individuals, but... I can't tell deeper in, huh."
As Zighart and I were talking while looking at the forest on the opposite bank, the other squad members came over too.
"Should we do it? We'll leave the horses behind, but for that level, we could probably handle it even without Zighart, right?"
"No matter what, using magic will alert powerful monsters. If it's just us, there shouldn't be a problem."
