After leaving through the west gate, I went around asking some of the people waiting there to enter about the conditions on the highway.
Just as I'd heard from the soldiers earlier, they'd apparently been seen in the grassland, but there weren't any monsters that came out as far as the highway.
Basically, the monsters around there are nocturnal, and during the daytime they probably only show themselves just enough to observe.
But when I asked a little more closely, I heard they'd also been spotted here and there at the edge of the forest.
Of course, it was apparently for observation and scouting, and they didn't come out as far as the highway, but... it does seem certain that monsters are actively moving around even during the day in this side of the forest, too.
Since there's some distance, maybe I'm worrying too much, but I should still move quietly through the northern forest.
After hearing from the people near the front of the waiting line for a while, I decided it was about time to set off.
It's not like it would take much time, and I feel like I could've listened to more, but... the people lined up further back were also starting to gather forward little by little, wanting to talk to me.
If this keeps up, the waiting line might fall apart... so it's about time to go.
When I raised the altitude of the 【Floating Orb】, the people who noticed looked disappointed, but... I'm sorry, but I'll have to ask them to give up.
I waved at them and flew north.
Since I'm coming from the west gate, I'll probably end up entering around the very western edge of the northern forest.
From there I'll fly through the forest for a while, avoiding monsters... then come out to the river and follow it straight up to the upper reaches, then head for the northern base.
Since I'll travel along the river, I have to watch out for monsters coming to drink, but it should be less trouble than going through the highway or the forest.
At a good spot I'll pick up speed all at once and aim for the northern base.

A short while after entering the northern forest.
Since a ban on entry for adventurers has been issued, and the adventurers themselves are following it properly, there wasn't any sign of people in the northern forest.
I could sense small monsters and beasts here and there, but none of them tried to attack me, and I was making fairly smooth progress north above the river.
"The monsters do seem to be coming back, and I can't let my guard down... that's certainly true, but they're on the opposite bank rather than this side..."
I'm still in a shallow part of the forest, and the strength of the monsters I'm seeing isn't much different for now.
The problem is that scouts from the packs deeper in the forest are showing themselves.
Since I'm flying above the river, they can't interfere, and they seem to know I'm superior in ability, so the monsters on the opposite bank didn't try to attack me.
But...
When I glanced back, they were staring at me, as if concerned that I had passed by.
And as the distance grew, they were gradually following behind me.
"It would be easy to take them down, including dealing with them afterward, but... if that makes the big ones deeper in come out, it'll be a pain."
For now... should I accelerate and rush all at once to a spot where I can see the highway base?
While keeping an eye out for monster packs, I raised my speed all at once and headed north.
After heading upstream above the river for a while, I arrived at a place I vaguely recognized.
"It's all similar-looking places, so normally I wouldn't notice, but... I've been in the forest a lot lately."
I slowed the 【Floating Orb】 down and carefully checked the surroundings.
"This area is exactly where the monster corpses that collapsed and fell into the river were piled up. It seems there aren't any corpses anywhere now, though..."
Here and there on both banks, traces remained as if monsters had trampled the ground.
"Well... that doesn't really mean anything by itself, but maybe I should think twice about flying around here too much. Is it about time to go into the forest?"
Flying around above the forest might certainly be faster, but if I end up in a fight up there, it'll just be a hassle.
I decided to leave the river and head for the base through the northern forest.
