“Starting during the rainy season, Zig and the others have been staying at the northern base for almost a month, right? It seems that fact has spread even to other territories. For now, it doesn’t look like the people who heard that have come to the northern base yet, but timing-wise, they’re likely to arrive soon.”
“Ahh...”
The merchants who have stopped by or stayed at the northern base so far were people who originally planned to use that route, or whose guard arrangements were difficult and so moved together on short notice, making it hard for them to keep pace with each other; it was just coincidence that my unit and Zighart’s unit were coming and going there.
However, if the people who heard that information come here with some kind of purpose... it’s been about two weeks since the rainy season ended... so they’d be arriving right around now.
By and large, Zighart is often holed up in a dungeon or the First Forest development base, and ordinary people can rarely make contact with him, so if they find out he’s staying in a relatively safe place, those sorts could come swarming.
If that happens, the northern base will end up overwhelmed.
“Well... but Zig and the others are coming back tomorrow, so isn’t it fine for them to just come through the highway normally?”
“I think so too, but if they do that, the merchant caravans that stopped by the base will follow along with them. It seems the number would get too large. It’d be a pain to deliberately match their pace... but then again, we can’t just leave them behind, right?”

Whether they stay or move, if the merchants follow, they’ll inevitably end up as a large group, so they’re going to come back by a route the merchants won’t think to follow so readily, is that it?
“Didn’t we already send out a notice to the adventurers not to enter the northern forest? Even so, is it really to the point of using Sera?”
Seriana, who had been listening to our conversation, asks Teresa with a puzzled look.
Seriana has looked through the reports and has also heard about it from me, but... she hasn’t seen the highway information directly, so maybe she can’t quite imagine it.
“Monsters come out of the forest to look at the people passing along the highway. As for both the northern forest and First Forest, the ones coming out to look are mostly relatively weak monsters, and if they have proper guards with them, they can fight well enough... but if the column stretches out, I think it gets hard to defend.”
I could fly over right away, but normally that’s not the case.
Even if they were on horseback, in the first place they’re separated from each other and can’t easily join in to help, and they might not even be able to easily grasp the location.
Between different merchant caravans, the guards probably can’t coordinate well either, and they’d be in chaos from the monster attack.
It seems Seriana understood from my explanation too.
She gave a small nod... but at the same time, she seemed to have lost interest.
In the end, the reason is that outsiders are being reckless because of Zighart... I won’t say she doesn’t care at all, but as long as there’s no damage, it’s not something Seriana needs to think about each and every time.
“Well... fine. Sera, go. You want to avoid unnecessary fighting in the northern forest, don’t you?”
“If Zig even fights in the forest, no matter how careful he is, it might affect the forest’s monsters.”
Even if we’re generous, those coming from the north are in a sense getting what they deserve, but if the monsters on the west side of the forest start making a ruckus, people coming from the west who have nothing to do with it will be startled.
There are patrol soldiers out on the highway too, but that would just be collateral damage and I’d feel bad.
“If they learn they’re returning by way of the northern forest, even the merchants won’t try to follow. ...About what time will that be?”
“She wrote that it’s as soon as Sera arrives. Well... if it gets too late, it might cause more trouble for the soldiers... can you leave so that you arrive around noon?”
“Well... if I just need to arrive at the northern base, it’ll be quick.”
I nodded to Fiora, “Understood.”
