After taking a quick look around South Street, I returned to East Street and then went straight over the city wall to the training grounds outside.
The female soldiers and adventurers in training noticed me and stopped what they were doing, but Teresa instructed them to continue and came over to greet me.
"Good work. Princess... you were at the east city wall earlier—were you inspecting the city?"
"It wasn't as big a deal as an inspection... but you sure noticed, huh? You looked like you had your hands full earlier, so I went back inside right away so I wouldn't get in the way."
When I was looking around East Street earlier, I did take a quick look from above... but since they were moving as a whole group rather than doing individual training, if I'd shown up I might have interrupted them. I also figured that if I was going to see Teresa, it would be fine to look around other areas and gather information first, so I put it off.
"Is it all right now?"
"Yes. Today's training menu is finished. After that, I've got them moving on their own, partly as review."
"I see. Good work. ... Still, quite a lot of different people are joining in, aren't they?"
I already knew there were female soldiers and female adventurers, and I knew there were people from the Knight Order there to assist Teresa... but it didn't seem like that was all.
"Female soldiers... female adventurers, and the apprentice children. The adventurers acting as instructors for the children are also taking part on the teaching side."
"I see... Are you short on people?"
"No? I handle the general instruction myself, and we're not teaching anything special in the first place. Of course, their cooperation is helpful, but it's not that we're short on people."
"Huh..."
I turned my gaze toward the women doing the training.
Just as Teresa said, they were acting as opponents while giving advice... but what they'd been entrusted with seemed like things that could be done by anyone, not just them.
"True... it does look like there's plenty of room."
The ones currently receiving training, excluding the ten or so apprentice children, would be a little under twenty, I suppose?
That's probably not all of them, but both the teaching side and the training ground seem to have room to spare.
Maybe my expression bothered her; Teresa came over and asked, "Is something the matter?"
I prefaced it with, "It's nothing big," and then told her about the talk at the Merchant Guild and how I'd been looking around the city.

When I finished telling her everything, Teresa nodded several times and said, "So that's how it was..."
"An increase in participants itself shouldn't be a problem. I won't know unless I meet them directly, but... from your perspective, Princess, you didn't feel they were lacking in ability, did you?"
"Yeah. I didn't actually see them fight... but I think they were better than the participants on their side."
Teresa nodded deeply and said, "I thought so."
"As things stand, it's not that we're neglecting them, but it's true that we haven't been able to cover even the visitors from the Merchant Guild side. If the Merchant Guild side is going to provide people to deal with that, then it's not a bad thing."
"Right. I looked around North Street, too... the foreign residential district was being guarded by their own forces. This year might just be special, but soldiers had been pulled away for that security too, and if it was just us, it'd be tough..."
"That's true. Understood... I won't bring it up from my side, but if the Merchant Guild side comes to discuss it, I'll hear them out. Fortunately... I'll have time to spare in the afternoons for a while, so it's perfect for thinking about training menus."
"Yeah. Well... it's still just talk within the Merchant Guild, so who knows when it'll come together. Teresa, you're free to use your own time, okay?"
I think she'll be fine, but... just in case, I need to warn her not to go finding work on her own and overdoing it.
At my words, Teresa gave a wry smile and nodded, "Of course."
