Fishman Island has a lot of references to a traditional Japanese fairy tale - the fable of Urashima Taro. It goes like this: Taro is a fisherman that saves a turtle one day, and to thank him he is brought down to Ryugu Palace (sounds familiar?) at the bottom of the sea as a guest. There he spends 3 days with Princess Otohime, but soon wants to return to his village and his ailing mother. Otohime gives him the Tamate box saying it will protect him on his journey back, but warns him never to open it. Once back, Taro discovers that 100 years have passed in the 3 days he was gone. Distraught, he opens the Tamate box and his real age returns to him, instantly turning him to dust. Oda changed things around enough to not be too sure where he was going with this, but seeing Hordy and co all aged up is a huge "Ohhhh shiiii-" moment where it all comes together.
The blood transfusion scene makes me cry every time I watch it hahaha
Seems you were slightly confused by the reveal cause it had been so long since we had revisited the ancient weapons plotline, understandable. We had learned at some point that there were 3 weapons dating back to the void century that individually all had the power to destroy the entire world. Pluton, Poseidon, and Uranus. Some of the ponelyphs have information regarding the existence and location of said weapons, like the at Sky Island that indicated the location of Poseidon being Fishman Island. We had previously learned during the Water 7 arc that the identity of Pluton was a warship with unparalleled weaponry that could instantly level entire Islands. The natural assumption after that was that all 3 weapons were likely physical objects (aka traditional weaponry). Now, back to the current reveal. The shocking revelation is that rather than an object being Poseidon, it was Shirahoshi herself. A living being who inherited the power of Poseidon. And not only that, Poseidon is a weapon that fully exists in the present out in the open (just kept a secret). Pluton's blueprints were destroyed to prevent the creation of a second warship, and in the case of a physical weapon destroying it is clearly the right thing to do. But now the 2nd revealed weapon is a living person which greatly complicates things across the board. It's a game changer.
yeah you going to need to clear that wall completely might also use the wall thats behind you lol
Probably less relevant than others comments, but I like the way One Piece tackled racism a lot. It doesn't create a oppressed/oppressor absolute mentality, rather a mutual hatred, and the resolution is to truly treat each other equally and appreciate each other <3
cried like it was my first time good lord, Oda never fails to give us what we didn't know we needed
Long post incoming.... But just more interesting points... Did you noticed how Oda made Fishman Island to be kinda the reverse-parallel arc of Skipiea - One is placed 10 km up in the Sky, while the other is 10km under the red line - On both arcs a villan end up using huge ass ships to try to destroy the whole island. - Both main villans have some kind of superiority complex over humans, one thinks hes God the other thinks his race is supperior. - Both Islands have a phoneglyp that we actually get to know part of the content of thanks to Robin. - Both civilizations have a "desire" for something, Skipieans wanted to recover the "Vearht" (which was the only piece of earth where they could germinate plants) and Fishmans want to live under the sun and be treated as equals with humans. - Both have a "broken" promise between 2 people from the island in the past, Noland and Calgura broken promise on their friendship to keep ringing the bell so they can find their way back, and Fishman Island has the apology letter that Robin mention between Joyboy and the mermaid princes back in the void century ... - That promise was eventually fulfilled by Luffy on Skipiea, so ... (theory time) who knows maybe one day Luffy will also be the one to fullfil the "promise" Joyboy made with the Mermaid Princes and maybe that's related to the prophecy that Madamme Sharly saw? (Arlong's sister) And this one is just a "thought" that can be made if you noticed some of the previous point, but notice how basically both civilization "desires" could be easily "fixed" or achieved if they got to live on the surface with everyone else... 🥲
The 3 Ancient wepon names are: Poseidon, Pluton and Uranus... - On this episode is basically revealed that Shirahoshi is Poseidon - Pluton was the one Crocodile was seeking and he thought it was at Arabasta, the blueprints that Franky burnt at Enies Lobby where to supposedly build a "replica" of the original weapon in case the Og weapon falls on "the wrong hands" and the replica could be use to "counter it" - And Uranus at this point where you at, is still unknow where or what it could be 🤔
Those end of an arc episodes are the best
This is what I love about one piece is how much it relates to our world. It's sad to compare to ours and think of how many races are treated like fishman in our world and how long it's been happening for too. A change in both worlds needs to be made.
All races have been through slavery at some point or another, just a reminder
God, I've been waiting for this one! The blood transfer and asking Jimbei to join the crew are TOP tier moments in this show for me.
That thumbnail says it all 😂
