Why are people acting like Ace turned back after Akainu taunts and died immediately? The guy dies for Luffy, the MC with gazillion plot armor, and people act like that's not what happened. It's obv af how much Oda was not taking any chances of Ace continuing to live and stacked all odds against Ace, from before his birth, to ensure he falls here. To the people who say that all the sacrifice made at Marineford to save Ace went to waste: do you realize that everyone sacrificed for Ace and Ace sacrificed for Luffy, so all of the efforts actually went to Luffy, who is the MC and chosen one etc etc? It was never about Ace, it has always been about Luffy.
It wasn't Ace dying that was the issue for me, but I wish he had a more dignified death that wasn't his own fault. I know he had a temper and a great love for Whitebeard, but imo he was not the kind of man who would get taunted so easily by words alone. Yes, he did it to protect Luffy. But the thing is Akainu taunted Ace because Ace would have been able to escape (with Luffy). When Luffy collapsed Ace would have just grabbed him and kept running, or better yet flown into the sky. Akainu only caught up to them cause Ace stopped running, and others near him stopped with him.

luffy's voice actor is just incredible at making us feel his pain. His scream and those gargling sounds as blood drips from his mouth out of sheer emotional pain are haunting.
Really enjoy the series Jack, if you feel like it, you could watch opening 11/12/13. Some real bangers in my opinion. Glad you watch one piece and share it with us, keep it up.
sengoku tackling garp is one of my fav dub moments, instead garp says he will "murder" akinu, and it hits different. like he knows its wrong but doesn't care
Few Arcs ago, in Alabasta.. Jack: ... why are you alive? I mourned for you.. (talking about Pell and Robin) ..... Jack: ... Oda it's okay to let characters die.. ..... Jack: ... I won't mourn for you anymore.. ..... Marineford.. Jack: .. Aceeeee... (T⌓T) hahaha I was waiting for this moment....
This show without Ace would never be the same. Wish I could see him happy, laughing, being white beard's son more, and of course being there when Luffy achieved his goal. On top of that, he is my favorite character. I relate to him too much, especially in terms of low self esteem. I just wanted him to be happy. Rest in peace, Ace.

I have to add the obligatory comment, saying that when Akainu burns off Whitebeard's mustache, it was censored for the anime. In the manga, that shit burned off half of his face off, straight up, and yet he STILL. KEPT. GOING! The anime makes Whitebeard look impressive sure, but nothing like the inhuman monster the manga portrays him as.
Ace intentionally falling for Akainu's provocation has always annoyed me, it just ruins Ace's character imo. Ace had already felt guilty for pursuing BB alone because it led to this war, and then he repeats basically the same mistake disobeying WB's order AGAIN? I don't buy that. In doing so he endangers every single person there including Luffy, and also makes their sacrifices completely pointless. He should have focused on protecting his loved ones. Literally everyone else including Marco and the top commanders sucked it up and ignored Akainu, but he alone disobeyed WB's order which disappoints me to no end especially considering they were all there to rescue him. This is the one writing decision in OP that I really hate. It would have been way sadder and more impactful if Akainu had just caught up without Ace stopping and Ace had to sacrifice himself to save Luffy. The way Oda wrote it makes Ace look like a completely selfish moron. I'd be open to hearing people's counterpoints to this, but personally I really disliked the way Ace got provoked and died for it.
Not to say that Ace's death wasn't well done besides that point. I was still very tragic and Luffy and the other's reactions to his death were heart wrenching.
These episodes lining up with what's going on currently in the anime is crazy. Ace is one of my favorite characters but his death solidifies how great op is. Even though we hardly saw him up until now it always felt like he was untouchable so to finally get the answer he's been looking for by dying to protect Luffy is incredibly sad but it's Luffy's job to carry Ace's will from now on! GODA

And so he's finally at the episodes where the idiot fell for a "Yo Daddy" joke and end it up being a crispy donut, wasting all the lives lost that came for his rescue.
Spoilers : Kind of disagree cause even if Ace had survived this war, he would have lost to BB pirates with the other remaining WB pirates resulting in BB having his devil fruit. Knowing his personality he would have probably even go alone straight after waking up from his wounds... Here he dies with his family near him and without any regrets as he promised. Luffy did exactly the same, going to a certain death for what he believes in or wants to protect. Only reasons Luffy did survived are all people who protected him and some "god" luck.

actually kinda like Akainu. hope we get to go deeper in his story cause he really obsessed with justice till the point that it has become a twisted sense of justice.
Logias are super strong but not invincible, theres a quote from somewhere in the show that says Overconfident Logia users die young lol. They are really strong early game but there are still ways to hurt them, and late game everyone knows what they are.especially against other Logias. Some have pretty hard counters, Like Croc getting wet prevents him from turning to sand, Rubber makes luffy Immune to lightning and thus can land hits on Enel, and Magma burns way hotter than fire and so when thy make contact even Ace will take damage while Akainu would go mostly unaffected, He still passed through him but did damage to everything on his way in and out.
its so sad yet so funny to watch this arc all over again with jack and seeing his reaction became quieter each episodes😭😔

You have to intensionaly overreact right, I have watched the last 482 episodes with you and I haven’t cried once and it is not like I am not a sensitive person I cried every 30 plus times I rewatched the lion king, I can’t see that being not an overreaction #pedal

yea Ace became my least favorite character after this..all those people died for nothing..his "Pops" told him to go get out of there..and because of some 5th grade recess level jabs he "happily" died for his "Pops" honor..they try to make up for it later with flashbacks to redeem him but this was just trash
A few extra notes: iirc Oda confirmed had Sengoku not stopped him Garp would have killed Akainu The punch Akainu launched at Whitebeards face, in the manga took off a quarter of his face It is good you noticed Ace die with a smile as that is a trend of people with "The Will of D". Lastly can we all pause and appreciate the "Oh shit I forgot about him" face Akainu had when Whitebeard appeared behind him
I think oda also confirmed that if Akainu was the current fleet admiral in this timeline the series would've been very short since he is too powerfull

akainu pretty much was able to "burn" ace as if he was just a normal human because his magma burnes much hotter than ace's fire and therefore he was pierced and his organs burned. logia's are very strong but they still follow kind of elemental logic like when ruffy was able to hit crocoboy because of his hands beeing wet. there are other ways to hurt logia users without all the elemental shenanigans but that was just hinted here and there with whitebeard or marco beeing able to "hurt" or stop kizaru, aokiji and akainu at certain times with the use of haki. also rayleigh was able to physically stop kizaru at sabaody if you remeber that :)
