HEY ALL! Hope you're having a wonderful week! Today I am OFFICIALLY bringing back "let's argue"! If you haven't seen it before, it was a series inspired by Anthony Fantano where I take all your hot takes and opinions about anime here on PATREON, and respond to as many as I can in a YouTube video!
Typically these will be restricted to specific anime, but for this return it can be an opinion/take about ANY ANIME you want! (that I've seen lul)
That being said, go drop as many as you'd like in the comment section of this post, drop likes on the takes you most want me to respond to, and have civil discussion amongst yourselves! :D

This is very long, as all of my posts are. Only read it if you have the time and energy for it. TL/DR: The last fight in Naruto was bad and Boruto sucked, at least so far as I watched it. Also, reactors should watch OPs in animes when they appear in the show, not before or after, and they should focus on the video, not the music. Long version: No idea if I'm in time for this or not, and my opinion isn't really about any specific anime so much as it touches upon a common and, in my opinion, annoying trend among people who react to anime and people who watch those who react. So, my hot take, for lack of a better phrase, is that I really do not like it when people either watch openings to animes they are not watching yet in so-called "anime op reaction vids" or when they skip them in total. I know a lot of people claim that openings spoil future content, but that's bullshit and people who say that need to learn the difference between spoiler and teaser content. By that logic, reactors should also skip watching both trailers for future seasons and PVs for new shows, since they would also fall under "spoiler" content. In my opinion, OPs are put where they are in the show for a reason and so at least once, when it shows up for the first time in the actual show, should content creators watch and react to them. Also, although the music is good in most cases, the vast majority of songs in openings have little if anything to do with the show and the video is actually the important part and what it was designed for people to focus on while watching. If the above opinion falls too far outside of the theme, then here's a thought on something that falls closer to home, I should hope. I feel like the last boss of the Naruto show, Kaguya, came out of nowhere and was completely out of place. The whole show more or less built up Madara as the big bad, only to then yeet him and introduce someone new and completely unheard of for the final fight in the show. Now, I've heard we learn more of her and her species in the Boruto show, but I could only stomach something like 8 or 10 episodes of that before I gave up on it. Everything proceeded way to fast, the general mood and setting of the world was too different to the one setup in Naruto for such a short period of time to have passed, and all of the story lines, if we can even call them that, they explored in those episodes felt shallow and dull. At least by that time in the original show, they had properly introduced the main cast and established a world setting and some part of the history. I didn't even get the feeling of that from Boruto. I know the whole Naruto show serves as setting the stage, but the world in Boruto felt too different for that to make sense to me and overall it just didn't captivate me. I expected more from the people who wrote the original.
(Naruto) The Haku and Zabuza problem was too rushed and more characters along that had similar cooping as something emphasizing the Haku existential crisis would have been way more impactful
naruto is underrated in his own show
itachi is overrated asf (not saying hes bad tho)
luffy is a better and more likeable protagonist and has less plot armor then the other big anime like naruto, goku, ichigo
Buggy is hands down the funniest character in One Piece, Marineford wouldn't be the same without him (Fun fact: He's Oda's favourite character, that's why he is always failing upwards)
Dragon Ball Super was ruined when Trunks defeated Zamasu with a broken sword.
Gecko Moria is the greatest character in all of One Piece. I will not elaborate on this. Thank you.
Dragon ball relies on so many ass pulls and is extremely convoluted sometimes
KnY and JJK as a whole are actually pretty mid, all thanks to the animations only though. Besides that, the plots, world buildings, or character developments are just boringly mediocre. Overall, they are the most basic shounen things that you can think about it and they should not be overhyped this much.
Mushoku tensei s1 is great but overrated
mha vigilante arc had so much potential but they ruined it by basically using deku as a springboard for other characters. I really wanted it to get dark, maybe deku could have seen some of the more messed up things of the criminal underworld
Super Rookies Saga of one piece is better in anime than manga, but new world saga is vastly superior in the manga
Goku actually isn't a bad father people just decided to make him one forgetting the times he's died for his family and had faith in gohan to beat cell to the point he knew healing cell gohan could still win
Simp characters like Sanji, the purple ball dude from MHA, Zenitsu etc. are pointless, extremely annoying tropes that distract from the story, and should never be in any anime
boa hancock is the best female character in one piece
uraraka and deku are also a terrible ship, I love my hero but horikoshi writes women so poorly I have no interest in uraraka or her relationship with deku
eren and mikasa are a terrible ship, she works so much better as eren's sibling protector with just a fierce loyalty rather than any romantic undertones
zenitsu is not annoying and expecting every character to be a confident "gigachad" IS annoying
Naruto fights > HXH fights > black clover fights > one piece fights >family guy fights > dragon ball super fights > food battle by smosh > random kids fighting in real life > Dbz fights
During the Marine Ford War arc, Jimbei and Ivankov acted like Luffy's actual parents
Rating Anime will only destroy your enjoyment of the medium. After a while you will only think about what rating you should give an Anime instead of just enjoying it as is. Thats why even if you are using websites like myanimelist you should only use it to keep a track record of what anime you have watched aqnd on wich episode you are on and not rate them.
One Piece has an amazing art style and many people who let that hold them back from watching it are just using the same stigma that prevents many people from watching anime in the first place; "it looks like a cartoon and cartoon = not worth taking seriously." That's the exact mindset that prevents animated movies from being taken seriously by many in the west.
The Original One Punch Man webcomic has better/more interesting art than 90% of manga out there.
OG Naruto is by far better than Shippuden and of course better than Boruto. The Sasuke retrieval arc is the peak of the whole series for me.
death note kind of sucks. The writing gets really bad towards the end. And light, for all of his supposed genius, is an idiot. Why is he taking out criminals expecting to create a new world? You're telling me the top student in Japan has never read any theory? He is attacking the symptom of the problem and not the root problem itself. Take out the billionaire ruling class, those who own the means of production, and the source of all oppression is eliminated. Code geass is everything death note should have been and lelouch is miles better as an mc and antihero.
dragon ball and fairy tale are the two worst shounen in existence
The most useful thing Vivi did was indirectly be responsible for Mr. 2 being sent to Impel Down since he helps Luffy later. She doesn’t actually do anything and I don’t understand why people like her. Karoo was great though.
I don't see how a princess(not some warrior or superhuman) infiltrating BW, finding out crocodiles identity, being a massive help on the ship, helping luffy develop as a captain, and forming bonds that lead the group who defeated BW to alabasta is doing nothing. "Everyone has what they can and can't do" is on of the core themes of one piece, she was never supposed to be a fighting powerhouse. Karoo and the duck squadron don't come though without her either, so even that point is usefulness.
What’s more impressive/effective? The Gum Gum or the Bungee Gum?
remember bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum
DBZ Abridged created so many misconceptions and did a lot of damage to the community. Like people saying Goku is a bad father and that Piccolo is Gohan's "real father" because of DBZA, people thinking Goku is way dumber than he actually is etc.
That is quite wrong as someone using the internet pre Dbza bad dad was around waaay before starting with the Saiyan saga where we see him raised by piccolo and goku not spending any time with him till the Cell saga half way through. Now were there circumstances preventing them from being together? Yes but that doesn’t change that the only time they spend together is in the RoST and even the anime had to add filler cause we don’t even see them together that much in the manga. Also goku is technically dumb he is a farmer who lived appart from civilization and never got an education he is just a smart fighter.
super sayian god is cooler than blue 💀
I'm starting to watch Naruto for me to know who's the best anime among the BIG THREE. Why the hell the first 25 episodes of Naruto feels like all fillers?
if you think the zabaza arc seems like filler youre going to hate og naruto and naruto in general. Arguably the best part of og naruto'
Demon Slayer's Visuals is TOP TIER but everything (story, flow, story telling, power system etc.) is TRASH.
4kids One Piece is better then the Sub and Funimation Dub no question
nah this one has to be ironic
One piece has a better plot and world than Naruto, but the fights in Naruto are choreographed way better
oda himself said he isn't great at writing fight scenes so i dont think this is a hot take
Boruto haters have no valid points and just compare it to naruto.
One piece is a binging anime. The pacing is bad once you’re caught up and watching weekly, but when binging, the pacing is up to you. -I wish I could erase my memory to rewatch one piece when it’s ends.
by the time it ends, that tech may exist. Oda said he is planning on wrapping it up in 5 years, he said the same thing 4-5 years ago. Im betting at the very least 7 years before its over
ok here it comes im ready for the hate fairy tail is actuelly a good anime
fairy tale is the single worst show ive ever watched in completion. lol
I think it’s pretty obvious that Zoro is stronger than Sanji, Oda couldn’t make it any clearer. The Sanji fans attempting to power scale him as equal are watching/reading a different story 😜
The Nami hate-wagon needs to stop. She’s by far not my fav character but without or any other navigator the straw hats wouldn’t have reached half of the destinations they did.
Who tf hates Nami? Nami is amazing, the only thing that sucks about her is how oversexualized she gets sometimes.
Demon Slayer feels like they made the main characters be weird for no reason at all and it feels like a show made not for teens but kids
i mean shonen by definition are targeted towards young boys so you right its not made for teens more pre teens
I've never watched FMAB but I know it's put on a high pedestal, is it in your top 10-5?
top 3 for me just perfect from start to finish
I watched one piece when I was a lot younger. I didnt have as much of a grip on world-building, scaling, and just other components that go into a show. So my question to you as a caught up viewer, do you think Whitebeard is living up to his Yonko Status? There are things I wish Oda did differently, but I'd love to hear your fresh viewpoint! Rewatching marineford with you does make me realize how much of a beast he is, especially with his sickness coming in.
Now that Franky is doing shipwright work and engineering, Usopp is kind of pointless aside from comic relief.
especially once they get into the new world
Okay, I’m done lol.
Jujutsu Kaisen should be renamed to “I only care about one character. And his name is Gojo.”
Drum Island was peak One Piece.
Itachi going along with a plan to kill his entire family and clan makes him a genocidal maniac, not a hero. Also, he abused his brother physically and mentally and claimed he loved him. Worst character.
If Buggy had the Muggy Ball back in Orange town, the series would have ended.
he did and blew up half the town
Mob beats Buu but Kid Buu beats Mob
no shot
the one piece pacing is perfectly fine in the anime; it only gets bad after episode 700 or so, but everyone claims it's worse before that
idk that's pretty fair, not sure what episodes those are but Dressrosa arc is where it started getting real slow for me
Zoro would ultimately win in a fight against Sanji, it’d be a close fight but he’d get it done
Jimbei is a good, strong character- idk why so many people hate him
jimbe deserves so much more credit than the fanbase gives him
Nami is NOT a second Sakura, y’all Sakura would sink our ship immediately
Oh jeez, imagine Sakura trying to navigate into the Grand Line. *Sails straight into the Red Line* “…And they never found the One Piece.”
Skypiea plot and the backstory with noland and kalgara is one of the best arcs/flashbacks I’ve seen- idc what the arc skippers have to say
Boruto should have never existed, just make a good story in the first place and don’t go chasing more money. I believe in Oda to never let two piece happen, he’s got class 😒
Making girls that look like children and saying they're adults just so you can sexualize them is disgusting and shouldn't be done. This happens far too often there are way too many girls like that like Tornado or Elaine.
Nami and Chopper have yet to do anything that shows they deserve to be on the crew, Any other doctor or navigator could step in and fulfill their roles just as good.
That's just straight up wrong. Like you are factually incorrect. Nami is by far my least favorite character in the show but she is the best navigator in the world and chopper can make antidotes for poison that would take other people weeks to years in a couple of hours.
Vivi is a trash character and It's a good thing she didn't join.
Another garbage one jesus christ
Why is Goku your favorite Anime Character?
One piece flashbacks are boring and every time the show tries to make me cry it fails because it always involves characters I don't care about at all.
How are all your takes so fucking bad mate
Goku is one of the best written anime protagonists, and does not deserve all the hate for him being dumb. He may have childlike naivety, and innocence, but this completely fits his character. He may be unaware of consequences of his actions such as giving cell a senzu, and leading to the creation of the tournament of power. However, many of his decisions have been good (letting vegeta live, allowing for many characters to redeem themselves and become his friends (tien, piccolo). Overall, he may be somewhat naive, but he knows when to be serious, and he has an insane battle iq. Compared to other dragon ball characters (ie, Gohan, who is plain boring), Goku is very well written.
I'd say Goku is by far the worst character in dragon ball and is a horribly written character. Man literally revived someone worse than hitler for no reason
Does filler do more harm, than good? We all usually hate filler cause it’s not canon and goes on forever. However, the purpose usually is to give enough time for the manga to create enough content to animate. Most are always skipped when watching, but it gets a bad rep. However, would filler be good if it was not a cash grab, but also utilized to keep a series relevant to the public eye? I know there are OVA and ONAs but usually no one sees or has access to them. Imagine the long hiatuses between some anime seasons. Many fans fall off cause it had been 2, 3, 4 years since they saw an episode and the hype died down as did their interest.
NO FILLER
the pain arc is very overhyped. the decision to kill the whole village to raise the stakes and then wave your hands and go "hey everyone's okay they're all back" at the end completely obliterates any sense of tension or stakes for the rest of the series. also itachi sucks my dingaling and was clearly not intended to secretly be a good guy for most of the time he was alive.
It’s literally a reason why it was done. Maybe you couldn’t understand that past “gimme death”
if demon slayer didn't look pretty no one would care about it. the animation is nice but everything else about it is insanely mediocre
FACTS
imo Goten was an unnecessary addition in DBZ as he was set up to be an equal to Trunks, when I feel it would've been nicer if we had more of a Gohan and Trunks dynamic like the Future timeline. I do appreciate that he gave us Gotenks though 🙏
Chainsaw man is better in the manga then JJK but JJK anime is peak
Boruto is shit. Idk why people still watch it
My hero Academia pacing is so bad , Deku goes from hurting himself for 4-5 seasons then in the most recent season he just learns 3 new powers from one for all . Plus Deku is a boring character with side characters being infinitely more entertaining than Deku . Also I’m glad Bakugo bullied Deku , he deserved it
I would say the side characters are some of the worst in shonen history and Deku is a pretty good mc. So... the opposite lol. Tbh I don't really like mha that much anyways.
Bleach is better than most battle shonen. Bleach is so much fun and has cool abilities, outfits, characters and most of all music and art. I don't like One Piece art. One Piece is the most boring thing I have watched. Bleach also has the best soundtrack in battle shonen. My friends tried getting me into One Piece and i'm on episode 90 and it's so rough. My friends wanted me to watch the "supercut" episodes that are redone or whatever. But if you want me to get into the series, I have to watch it as it was released and the way most people watched it as kids to give a fair assessment. Guy Sensei should've died in Naruto after fighting Madara. Should've been a tie and Madara's death results in Kaguya's resurrection. Edit: BTW Guy is my favorite naruto character. Still think he should've died. The whole Kaguya twist sucked but I feel what I wrote would make it more bearable. As for Guy, he basically became what Naruto the MC represented. Hard work overcomes talent and destiny. Now he doesn't do anything in Boruto. Itachi's backstory screams constant rewrites throughout the series. Kishimoto wanted him to become a villain but changed him midway through the series into making him into more of an anti-hero role. Itachi literally beats the crap out of Sasuke almost killing him. Itachi was constantly doing stuff to stop the leaf from interfering with the Akatsuki plans. Sure, one could argue it was for his cover, but some of it gets ridiculous. That whole crow thing with Shisui's mangekyo and shoving it in Naruto's throat is the point where I feel Itachi's character was rewritten.
100% w you on the Itachi thing, Kishimoto literally had to retcon the Uchiha into being genetically evil so that Itachi wouldn't seem like a complete monster. It's insanely contrived
skypia > alabasta.
Nami is the worst character in one piece and I can't stand her. Plus sanji's character is completely ruined by his obsession with girls.
I firmly believe that filler arcs in Anime are a good thing, even if they sometimes run into the issue of conflicting with Canon events later on. A well done filler episode can take the time to focus on/highlight a character to flesh them out or just allow us additional small moments between various characters interacting with each other. Or show what is happening somewhere entirely different from where the main cast is, to expand the world as a whole.
I absolutely hate when filler is interspersed with canon material, that honestly ruined logue town in the One Piece anime for me. Otherwise they're cool.
Dragon ball: Frieza saga is the worst saga by far and Buu is the best. Dragon ball fights are probably the worst of all of anime and always consist of punches too fast to see, screaming, talking, beam struggles, rapid ki blasts, or power ups. There is t much unique about any of the fights they're pretty much the same and not good.
you’ve never watched anything dragon ball, and that’s okay.
The merry is a "friend" is the worst writing in all of one piece and the scene where she "dies" is hilarious. It's like something ripped out of a show for toddlers and it's just terrible and stupid. It's literally made of tree corpses.
this is probably the hottest take in this whole post I'll give you that lol
Watching dragonball gradually makes your brain become extremely smooth so that any discussion about anime regardless of series devolves into it's simplest form: powerscaling. It eventually gets to the point where you can only talk about whether an anime character can beat Goku or not. It's a really sad condition, I'm just posting this here to spread awareness.
Or, it’s a joke/meme.
-Abridged has its fun moments but it negatively affected DB, the perception of particular characters and made a section of people believe the jokes are what actually happened -Shippuden >> Boruto >> OG Naruto -One Piece is a unnecessarily long series that I personally wouldn’t recommend to anyone unless they profited off it or were picking it back up. Some of their fans can be very pretentious
Just like every fan base has its bad and good
Im not part of the fandom overall so this may not be a hot take but i dont see anyone talking about it much so Bit of a different one here but parasyte - the maxim is one of the best manga series and then anime series ever made hands down.
What's the deadline to submit takes? The rest of July?
Probably going to be recording for this on Sunday so around then!
I also think that One Piece is the best fictional work of all time, and if it weren't for the fact that it's hidden behind the stigma of it being manga/anime, which keeps a lot of the general population from being interested in it, I genuinely think it would be up there with things like star wars and marvel as one of the most popular fictional franchises.
The oversexualisation of female characters is keeping the general population away. When my mother saw me a dew years ago watching one piece she thought i watched or porn or some other nsfw shit
Gojo is not beating Goku
Depends on who’s writing it. If it’s Gege Akutami he’ll manage it somehow. If it’s any other mangaka, then heck no. I’ve never seen an author have more of a boner for their own character before. And the fans seem to eat it up.
One Punch Man season 2 is better than season 1.
In terms of story, I agree, but when it comes to animation it fell off heavy
In the 4 One Piece manga popularity polls before Marineford Sanji was in 4th place (during Baratie), 3rd place (after Alabasta), 3rd place (after Enies Lobby) and 3rd place (after Sabaody). I think Sanji is very overrated. So my question is: Is Sanji the most overrated character in One Piece?
No it's Nami. She is trash
Not necessarily a hot take, but Death Note should have ended with (you know who's) death.
One Piece is better than Naruto
I think that One Piece is the best piece of fiction of all time. It has the best story, OST, characters, and world-building.
