I think you should definitely watch 56 & 57 together
you should watch the new dbs movie, its all about gohan and he even gets a new form. ;)
he alrady watched it in theatres when it got released
In the manga, History of Trunks was a bonus chapter. In the anime it was a TV Special, so it's just like an episode except it's not in the episode count.
Dragon Ball Super & Black Cover have ‘anime canon’
I'd still call it filler. Just necessary filler.
By definition it is not filler, filler has one definition. Filler means a part of any adaptation that is not present in it's source material. "Anime canon" means content not adapted from source material that the author deems canon by declaration and a part of the canonical storyline in combination with the source material. The DBS anime was made before the manga, and with Toriyama's direct supervision and guidance. That makes the anime the source material, and every episode of super is therefore canon. How necessary or unnecessary it feels is not a factor. The manga events are actually different but ALSO canon because Toriyama passed off the writing to Toyataro. Toriyama still reviews his work before publishing it to approve it though. It's like two canon versions of the same story that have some differences, it's a strange case. He gave his notes to both the anime writers and the new manga author and they both created their own versions with his supervision, and they are both canon as a result unless Toriyama says otherwise.
Fun fact: the sweater that Trunks is wearing now is the one from Xenoverse Trunks, or Xeno Trunks for short. You couldn't see it from the coat hes wearing, but if you look closely at his neck, you'll see the similarities.
Technically all of DBS anime is anime canon since the anime was ahead of the manga and doesn't adapt the manga.
I wish they kept the whole Future Gohan death in DBS the same as in the Future Trunks SPECIAL
Jack, concerning the whole ANIME-CANON thing , Akira Toriyama back then when DBS began, he drew most of the character designs and he would give the major plot points of an arc to both Toei Animation and someone called Toyotarou, who is his successor, and because the DBS manga is a monthly manga unlike the original Dragonball manga that Toriyama drew which was a weekly release, Toyotarou was falling behind the anime, so much so that by the time the anime began the Goku Black arc, Toyotarou was just now beginning the DBS manga, and from then on the gap kept increasing that by the time the anime version of the FINAL ARC ended in March 2018 with episode 131,,,, Toyotarou had just wrapped the manga Goku Black arc and he began drawing the FINAL ARC of the manga in the month of June 2018 so by default, the events of the anime came first and the manga events came after
to be fair, toyotarou wasn't falling behind, it's because of the way the manga is serialized. Kaiju no. 8 is bi-weekly for example. but db super and boruto are monthly. the monthly serialization and the combination of the anime airing is what lead to the slowness of the manga. personally, imo the manga overall is better than the anime because of the time it could take to be written and use the anime's flaws to its advantages. my only issue with the manga is the endings of each arc are either mid or terrible, while having phenomenal first and second acts
I enjoyed this reaction and interaction between Trunks and Gohan, it was so wholesome
I never got the hate for this iteration of Gohan. For me personally, I like for the characters to do at least one of the following: 1. Grow and change over time 2. Fulfill their purpose in the series 3. Get what they wanted or needed Gohan did ALL 3. He had his growth through the entirety of Z, fulfilled his call as a Z-fighter when it was required, and he got a happy ending. The main thing is he got what he finally wanted. On top of which, ever since Gohan was introduced, he made it clear that he never loved fighting and wanted to be a scholar, and when he finally achieved his ambitions and dreams, a lot of the fandom hated him for that
Completely agree, Gohan has actually some very rare proper character development in dragonball, a fighter who from a young age was forced to fight, then forced to be a saviour then found a family and aimed for and achieved what he wanted in life while the others just fought, the whole point was he never wanted to fight he simply had to, obvs people want to see their favourite fighter you know..fight and be cool etc, but man I think gohan is great.
