Let the Uryu stuff cook a bit more, but i do agree the set up isn't fantasic despite the diary he read being added to the anime to try and provide some potential context for what changed his allegiance. But this IS the Quincy arc and the manga majorly dropped the ball with Ishida, where the anime does make him a lot more interesting and give him a lot more to do in the context of the overall plot.

yeah if ishida right now pisses u off....oh boy get ready. i 100% agree with you that this is straight up bad writing and unfortunately the start to kinda a lot of very rare Kubo L's in terms of characterization/plot consistency, not just of uryu, but the fights themselves too that can be infuriatingly stupid. still my favorite anime and while it has few narrative Ls (for a shounen), those Ls are critical to the story sadly and not just "oh yeah thats ganju squaring up to a royal guard" moments

I remember when I was reading manga I felt the same about Ishida and eventually dropped it because of how messy and rushed the final chapters got. While I can understand his hate to the soul reapers it's clear that he as a person could co-exist with them, just as his parents and Ichigo's mother did, not to mention that Yhwach killed Ishida's mother. Hope there's more to his motivation but if not then I agree, the writing seems bad.

The thing is that Quincy's upset the balance of the world by their very nature. They do not belong in this world, and when the Soul King was used/created the separation of the three worlds the Quincys were excluded. That's why they bare a grudge and why Yhwach wants to make a world where Quincys belong. Hollows are poisonous to their very existence, yet if they kill hollows the world's balance goes out the window and they're killed by the soul reapers. It's a lose lose.

The existence of Hollows in itself is poisonous to quincys. If they do not eliminate hollows they will all die and thus they must erase hollows but this resulted in shinigami killing them (A lose-lose situation). Even after multiple massacres by shingami Uryu’s grandfather tried to make peace and help shinigami purify hollows but was purposely delayed help by mayuri so that he would die from an attack from hollows. Always in history has the quincys been treated as people who are better dead. Even the soul king forsake them, creating a human, hollow and shinigami world but not a Quincy one.
