Thing about Rukia's bankai is that, in it's current state, it's very unstable and dangerous to even activate since it freezes her surroundings and almost anyone around her indiscriminately. She herself also turns almost completely into ice, and is at risk of shattering just from moving; that's why Byakuya told her to release it very slowly.
Trivia: As Nodt's voice actor is the same as Inosuke in Demon Slayer :) This is my fave episode for this cour :)
W Rukia moment
Something I forgot to mention in episode 18; the entire first act of their battle is gone, and it kinda changes the pacing. In the manga, Renji actually has a proper warm‑up phase before Mask powers up, but the anime skips straight to the “James dies → Renji slices Mask” moment. Here’s everything that got cut: When Mask regains his hearing, he tells Renji to “say something cool,” and Renji just calls him creepy, which was funny XD Mask launches himself like a missile, but Renji sidesteps and slams Zabimaru’s hilt into Mask’s back, cratering him. Mask reveals the star emblem on his fist and explains it makes his punch 10× stronger. Renji catches it with one hand. Mask loses his composure and unleashes a wild flurry of punches. During this Renji disappears and stealth kills James, strangely off-screen unlike in the anime. Renji says, “All villains are cowardly,” right before slicing Mask across the stomach. Renji slashes Mask before Mask transforms. Also Mask remembers Renji from the first invasion and realizes he beat him once already. Renji confirms he knew who Mask was the whole time. There's a few other differences, but I personally don't think they really hurt the story much.
My favourite episode in the cour despite some of the later ones being amazing as well. This episode just delivers so well on its premise of both developing the relationship of Rukia and Byakuya, giving us just a bit more insight into one of the sternritter, really playing with his schrift through audio and visual design AND finally giving us Rukia doing bankai.
Yes!! I had been waiting for this one. This episode is art. Scary ass fuckin art but art nonetheless.
No one dare make an Elsa joke.
You could translate Tartar Foras to Fear of God
I love that in the opening Rukia blasts Äs Nödt with a fire extinguisher.
