Luffy's nickname for Yamato "Yamao" is written with the same kanji Luffy's nickname for Law uses, which is a shortened form of 'otoko' (man), see 'Tra-o' (typically translated as Tra-guy). But it's also a pun. Yamao also sounds like maou (Demon King), since Yamato has horns and looks like a typical eastern demon. Though, as others will not mention, it's funny that Yamato explicitly dislikes the name, since she claims to be Oden (an otoko), and insists that her name is Yamato in these instances.
