Tamate box timing is another example of Luffy being the luckiest MF alive and fate wanting him to become the King of the Pirates haha.
Also maybe this is a hot take, but imo it is disappointing to see Luffy fall for Big Mom's provovation and become a liability after losing all his haki from 4th gear. Is that in the manga? It feels weird writing wise. Basically everyone's lives are on the line and he pulls that sh*t? You would think he would have learned after what he saw happen to Ace when he got provoked by Akainu, cause this could have ended similarly or worse. I know Luffy is not the most mature character in OP, but when things get dire he usually keeps a level head especially post timeskip. This actually looked way more immature than Ace because at least Ace was defending someone else, Luffy got mad and lost control because he himself was insulted which imo is pathetic for him at this stage in the game. Especially after how emotionally mature he had behaved previously this arc it feels out of character for him to risk everyone's lives off a provokation. If it was not for tamate box bailing him out, Luffy's actions might have doomed them all. From a writing perspective I think Oda just wanted to corner everyone for the awesome tamate box moment and he had to think of a way to disable Luffy without making him look weak or severaly injuring him (since he still needs to fight more), but I don't like this method cause it makes him look mentally weak. Could have just had Big Mom or Katakuri keep him in check while making it look like he was losing badly for a similar underdog effect. This is not a big deal though and is a small criticism to the writing, cause there are no lasting consequences from his actions.
