Lanterns S1E08 Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! It's time for some answers! What is Sinestro up to? Who freed him? Who killed Hal? And what will John do with the ring? Can the show of the year land the plane, and where do we go from here for season 2?

2026 and we still can't do the slow takeoff/hover without it looking like we're giving the talent the worlds worst atomic wedgie? Or worse, like a middle-school production of Peter-Pan? The fast, angled, take-offs worked, so maybe it's just that the budget fell off by ep. 8.

From an analysis I found that I wanted to share in regards to why John gives the money: "Lanterns speaks, for the most part, about generational trauma. We see it reflected in John's parents and racism, in Hal's father and suicide, and in Noah and his grandmother, who is a Manhunter. The series posits that, if you don't break these cycles at the root, the trauma ends up turning into an endless loop of resentment, pain, and hatred that gets passed down from one generation to the next. That's why John's gesture with the girl carries so much meaning. By helping her, he's preventing her from repeating the same path that his family—and he himself—followed for so many years. In a way, John is breaking that cycle and giving her the chance to start from scratch, without carrying the same resentments, hatreds, and wounds that marked his family. (The same applies to Noah) Because breaking generational trauma doesn't mean forgetting what happened or denying the harm that was done to you. It means accepting that pain, forgiving, and deciding that you won't let it continue to define your life or the lives of those who come after you. That's why the scene of John with his family is paired with this other one. When he hugs his mother, he's not just forgiving her: he's closing a wound that accompanied him for years. And when he later helps the girl, he's doing for her what no one did for him: giving her the opportunity to break that cycle and start anew."

My theory is Sinestro tries to swim and the insanity fear water will drive him completely into the fear/madness instead of his normal ambition/calculating nature

I don't think John paid the blackmail to hide that he met with Hal, I think he paid because he felt responsible for the town's destruction and wanted to make good.

There is a phase. It's all under the heading of 'Gods & Monsters.' In the official HBO Lanterns Podcast, executive producer Tom King made the point that Guy is a cop. John is a superhero.

First comment ever on here but interestingly enough Noah's story could be easily compared too Clark Kent's in the sense of an otherworldly individual in a small country town whos future is unknown if it'll be good or bad.

The first five episodes pulled me back in and had me hyped for the future of the DCU. The last three episodes were such a disaster I am completely done with the DCU and anything else any of these showrunners ever touch.
