weather balloons
this one was supposed to be about area 51 but we meandered a bit

I noticed the closed captioning when November was talking about the suicide pill and said autocthonous, it said autoxinous. If that was deliberate I salute you fine folks. If not, the AI may be developing a sense of humor.
They should let me be topless at edwards afb. My tits are awesome thats my reason.
I hear about the U2 shootdown all the time, but nobody ever talks about the RB-47 shootdowns (Plural. Multiple.) previously. Quite a few aircrew were killed.
Back in the '90s...there was a run-down, but immaculate little motel in Roswell that had a headshop in the lobby. We were so tired from our travels, and it was like an oasis in the desert for us. Tours were out of season at the time, so we had to give Area 51 a pass. Ah, well. Beautiful country, though.
If you're looking for bonus episode topics, I could talk about AT&T Long Lines...
Dulce base is the real quintessential sprawling underground complex in the conspiracy imaginary these days (anyone in the know as far as lore knows that's where they have all the alien shit)
an Anarchist society is in my opinion the only one that can properly care for the elderly and infirm, as people with less hard restrictions on their time in a society that emphasizes community are unlikely to just sit around or do their own shit while someone they know is suffering needlessly.
like girl and Liam ily but I almost facepalmed myself to death at both things you said
Rocz you basically mispronounced every syllable of the name Yekaterinburg…
I never had a job doing the shit I’m good at, tbh I don’t really know how I got this good at it, I just kinda dgaf about suffering, at least compared to most people in my country.
The fucking synch point fail got me cackling at work.
I think your ex father in law could also be called your outlaw father
Me imagining Saving Private Ryan, but with whatever the sh*tting hell that thing is, dropping in on Omaha Beach.
Rocking in my Nove Force Ones.
A friend of mine in college became an air force JAG lawyer, and one of her responsibilities was judicially banning people who tried to sneak onto Area 51 from all federal property
I have every confidence that November could write at least 2-3 hours on the Mark 14 torpedo alone.
For those interested in this topic: don't buy Annie Jacobson's book. It's (at BEST) poorly researched and sensationalist. Pick up Peter Merlin's Dreamland. It's enormous, the photos are great, and Merlin is from the test world, like Alea.
To Alea: Yechout was still there when I went through quite recently. I didn't have him, but friends of mine did.
Now I really want to know how much parking there is inside the Cheyenne Mountain Complex.
Constant Peg pilot Rob Z'man Zetel wrote a book about his experiences at Groom Lake, and did a bunch of promotional interviews on Youtube. They get pretty interesting. For instance, it turns out a USAF general died flying a Mig-23 because he didn't RTFM. Zetel loved the Mig-21. Nobody likes the Mig-23, but Zetel says it was the fastest plane he ever flew. He took it to the placard limit of Mach 2.35 twice and says it was still accelerating. He absolutely agrees with Nova that it was the best job in the Air Force. They drew most of their ground crew from the Thunderbirds, and out of respect for their skills the pilots did not do walkarounds before flight.
Netflix has an hour long documentary on the “Storm Area 51” thing, it’s amusing.
I hope them aliena is real so I have more things to fuck
OBLIQUE WING MY BELOVED!!! Literally taught myself the basics of solidworks and got really into 3D printing all so I can make RC models of oblique wings lol
I enjoyed this one immensely. It made me want to search for Airfix kits and spend the weekend covered in glue & paint.
The only reason Trump went there is because he misheard “Groom Lake” and thought it was a certain kind of all-inclusive
If it's a manned missile does it qualify as a technical?
Only if it's improvised somehow. Either it wasn't intended to have a man in it, or it wasn't intended to be a missile. Actually, I can think of examples each way...
Never in my life have I understood aero dynamics before Alea talked to me about weird planes for three hours. Thank you and more.
bet you could shoot a hell of a photo with a Cannon
Delightful as always. Also, very good save on Nova's part at the end there, I was opening my mouth to protest but I can't actually protest what she said in the end. Subscribe to all of Nova's podcasts everyone, it's well worth it!
8 minutes in and this is already the horniest episode of WTYP. Two thumbs down
Nova, I know you care about pronouncing foreign place names correctly: Nevada is pronounced the *other* way, ie, incorrectly if you're applying Spanish knowledge: first A is a short A.
I don't expect her to read or heed this I just keep hearing her have reasons to say Nevada across all her podcasts and
Wtf is said at ~2:31:00? He references an “incident”, the name of which I cannot decipher and I’m super curious lol
Why can't Iwatch it
Just in time for my post-office bedrot (Not to be confused with the post office bedrot)
Learning that in Nova's mind, soup is a solid.
I'm sure I am not the only one who would maintain my patreon subscription even if you never posted another bonus episode. I'm just grateful you guys make this podcast and thats the only way I can pay you.
Best bonus episode ever. Be sure to have her back !
Having some intense nostalgia watching the slide show and realizing I owned all of the picture books these slides came out of courtesy of my airplane obsessed Boeing engineer grandpa.
Hell yeah, Alea's back!
My dad flew MiG 21s out of Groom Lake to train other pilots on how to dogfight against them. It took me most of my life to figure out how to get him to spill the beans. I'll never forget the glimmer in his eyes the first time I said the magic words, "do you know anything about MiGs and Area 51?" He died about 10 years ago, am I'm 100% sure he took quite a few secrets to the grave. Edit: I made my comment before listening to the episode. I loved hearing more about what my dad did. He was a humble badass. Thank you.
damn, what’s an area?
Alea, calling us liberals, why did you do it girl? 😢
"I know the truth. I know the whole, shebang. I know the men they-ey had to hang."
This took so long again I had to binge and then subscribe on Patreon on another, more expensive, of November's podcasts. This podcast is a scam to sell more podcasts.
Patreon is a reverse-class-action-lawsuit. I too have been harmed and now must pay.
This AND a new CSB video?! My day is only getting better
Also, props to Nova for inventing the fire and forget joke at4. 😂
Lol. I legit thought this was going to be about the detrimental effects to weather forcasting from the lack of weather balloons... But ok, aliens. Still in!
You guys got my ass, I saw the notification and thought this would be about weather balloons and radiosondes, sounding rockets, etc. mildly disappointed tbh
Sounding...
Well, at least I'll have something nice to listen to when I'm stuck in the hellhole that is IAH on a 4 hour layover..
C
oh fuck yes i thought today was gonna be boring
The Annie Jacobson book was legit a banger. Learned so much about flying objects, unidentified and otherwise.
Oh thank fuck, I almost went outside and did something productive.
If it wasn't this it would've been something else ...is what I *would* say if I weren't staying up because this dropped at midnight. My niece isn't even seven and she's already feeling the pressure to 'be productive', which in her case means less spontaneous karaoke and playing in mud with her friends and more studying inside, alone. I don't know about the mud, which is an actual pain to clean, but it does seem like she's internalised this attitude that all time should be spent either maintaining or upgrading the machinery of her mind Machinery. As a thing to be used by people. Which she is feeling pressured not to become
Oh fuck yes
